Fun people,bad workload

Indeed Featured review

Good for meeting new people, management are terrible and give you too much of a workload and expect everything to be done that day. Too much work for too little pay.

Fun place to work, a great intermediate job

Working at JB was fun, interesting and at time to time challenging. It is a good place to start to gain sales experience, you will be trained and guided through making sales. Management team generally has a high turn over, expect change during your time. When applying make sure to list your availabilities for any-time. Internally the team is flexible, and will be able to accomodate around your schedule. However some sacrifice may be required for example: adjusting uni days from 3 to 2 (Study from home can help).

Free snacks, Employee discounts, coffee runs, team bonding

Customer service can be draining, conflicting tasks, during busy periods a lack of staff

fun workplace but minimum wage

working on counter. make sure to communicate and ask questions bc it's easy to make mistakes. training provided but not rly structured so u have to be on top of it and clarify w ur coworkers when youre unsure of things. super friendly work culture. sales seems stressful bc of commissions targets but counter/merch is mostly chill (depends on customer behaviour too tho)

discounts down to almost cost price. chill coworkers

pay could be higher

Real great place to work with some hard expectations

Overall really fun place to work at ! Youll meet so many inclusive and diverse personalities in your journey here and create friends for life. Pay is alright, some roles definitely deserve more pay and recognition for the expected work that is needed to be performed. Commission structure is real generous and works well. KPIs are definitely able to be achieved. JB is built on the salespeople and their personalities who create their own business. The training techniques encouraged can be different from every person and if theres drive can be successful.Management overall are really great. There has been news of some stores that have a “boys club” culture and there definitely still are however they are and will be rooted out. Management teams definitely are there to look after you and do their best by it. Area Managers can be good, but there can never be an excuse on why you cant get a customer over the line for a KPI which feels disheartening considering they were once store workers.

Toxic workplace culture where profit overrides everything

Use to be a great company to work for now filled with culture problems and poor morale in almost every store. Staff are over worked and given little to no communications or training to help their roles. Management utterly useless and only do anything when they have something at stake, most are apathetic and do as little as possible since all the higher management roles are given through nepotism rather than merit. Certain departments such as Hifi get paid way too much for their sales and other department way to little i.e portables..small appliances. Staff are generally intimidated into keeping quiet for fear of their jobs and many call in sick on a daily level due to not wanting to come into work. You are seen as a replaceable tool to make money for them and if you don't like it or fit in then there is plenty of replacements to come after.. or so they thought.. since these days they appear to be having a mass staff exodus and even management roles are not being filled quickly.

Competitive Environment but decent support

You are expected to hit certain goals and reach your KPIs but you do receive training through 1 on 1 meetings with your sales manager. Overall good for the resume but not if you get stressed easily.

Work Fun Culture

Everyone is really nice and management is very energetic. You'll only like it if you enjoy selling and have a competitive nature. Learn about new products everyday. Good commission, okay base

Good place to work as a uni student, as well as a good place to understand sales

JB Hi-Fi, is a good uni student job, where you are able to learn the key skills for sales, teamwork and merchandising correctly. However, this job does become laborious and repetitive during work, as you approach customers, go through the sales process which has been taught during coaching, and then you proceed to use these strategies within sales pitches to customers. However, if you do underperform on a weekly basis, your performance is criticised harshly and they make plans to make you perform better. Overall this is a job, where you as the sales person, have to be able to overcome rejection and objection from customers and management. If you are able to overcome such obstacles this will allow for you to benefit from this job regarding both salary and commission rewards.

Toxic Workplace - Don't bother if you're a casual!

The main benefit of working here is your coworkers but that's where it ends. Management is terrible, if you're a casual don't expect any kindness or respect - you really are just a number to them that can be easily replaced. It doesn't matter how hard you work, you can expect to go weeks without work and have your shifts cut last minute. There's a lot of gossiping, people bringing in family members as staff (which is a conflict of interest) and people sleeping with each other. Again, management does nothing about this. There's no training and if you do something wrong you can expect everyone to talk about you behind your back. While I was here I thought it was a good job because it was relatively easy and I liked my co-workers. After leaving I can see how much it negatively impacted me.

Relaxed environment. Nice co-workers

Toxic management and workplace culture. No training. No job security.

Fun environment for the first couple months

This job is great if you’re studying and want a relaxed and youthful environment. I wouldn’t want to stay here longer than a couple months or years as the job is an endless cycle and you feel you have no purpose in life anymore. It can also be incredibly unprofessional so steer clear if you’re looking for a job with class. Be aware girls, IT IS A MAJOR BOYS CLUB! ..this alone is reason enough not to work here

Great study job/hours are generally flexible

Feel a lack of purpose after a few weeks

Media Advisor

I worked across 2 stores in NSW. First store I was there for roughly a year. It was the best job I'd ever had from management right down to staff. I transferred in an attempt to move up to full time but worked for 2 weeks as a casual and was taken off the roster. Poor management at my second store and staff weren't great. Highly disappointed because I loved my job but obviously store dynamics are very different and when you have entitled people in a position of power it never works out well.

Good discounts, mostly a friendly work environment, laid back, easy work if you know your products.

Poor management, no loyalty to workers with actual skill sets relevant to positions.

Great people to work with

JB is a fast paced environment with the main focus on customer service and sales. The people that work in the stores are the reason going to work was easy everyday and the support from team members was excellent.

Surrounded by technology, friendly faces and a chill environment with awesome in-store discounts

as far as being a christmas casual, the typical day has you dealing with customers on a regular bases, if your not dealing with customers, your dealing with paperwork / or setting up for the next customers. i was working as a cashier and having to deal with 30 people in line all at once can be challenging. there is alottttt of multitasking, taking calls during a busy time, sending info around and asking questions is intense. greeting customers and making sure your doing the right thing is crucial. one muck up and you anger a customer and delay them (not checking the price tag before confirming the purchase). there is a system in place at JB that's easy to follow and takes care of everything. though it can be extremely difficult to keep up with the intense work, the members at work will always look out for you and support you when you ask. my experience with management was pretty good, there was a looming feeling of doom if you did something wrong because it costs the business but there generally nice people who are professional at what they do. there is alot to enjoy at JB, the back and forth between colleagues preparing customers for you, hoards of people buying interesting items, the variety of customers and regular faces, the challenge of being in a busy environment, the rewarding satisfaction you get when you see a person leave with an item happily. theres alot of stuff involved but if the staff prices don't interest you then just observing the people while you work is enough to make you value diversity.

Staff Discounts, good vibes, awesome colleagues.

Exhausting, taking your break is on you (you don't get paid during break time)

Low pay that's unsustainable

They expect you to be an expert at tech stuff and high pressure performance but don't pay you to be that. Always threaten to be managed out if you don't hit a predicted sales target. No pay review for time spent in the company! It's not worth moving up into the company as you will only be working your way into a regular wage.

Counter sales

Customer service, enjoying my day at work, good management. always going to learn something new and not knowing what the next day will encounter. enjoyable part meeting new people

Good team members

Mostly overworked with minimal pay

You would usually be asked to do things even outside your work description with minimal or no extra reward/pay/recognition. I guess this falls to specific store management rather than the entire company culture.

Enjoyable Working Culture

The entire working environment of JB-Hi-Fi was very welcoming and approachable in the way in which its staff assisted one another in a range of different working conditions and scenarios.

Fun place to work, got along with everybody

I personally loved working here, I have many friends who I have grown close too. It was hard at first getting to know everyone but finally at the end I got through it all.

Long hours

Not worth it in the end...

A typical day at work is getting yelled at, abused and ignored by customers while running around under staffed. I learned a great deal about sales and how to overcome objections and my product knowledge went through the roof. Management, most are fantastic, some are the manipulative, untrustworthy and purposely put you in a position where you want to quit simply because they don't like you. Workplace culture is good, for the most part staff are supportive and help each other out and are genuinely happy to help customers. Hardest part of the job is dealing with rude and horrible customers who forget their manners at the door. The best part of the job is working with the great team

Some discounts are great, freebies to be won in sales, if youre in sales the wage can be amazing, software get the scraps

Long hours, HR team don't resolve problems they ignore them, no support for the 'little guys"

It's mostly what you make of it, know when to move on.

Great people, good brand. Little training and very minimal opportunity to advance and increase skills. Systems and processes are improving but not to where they should be for a company of it's profile. Great experience in dealing with all types of people.
