An okay workplace
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 11 September 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe management is not the best and it really depends on the person you work with. The energy is more like a girl boss environment. Heard some people were asked to close the store alone in her third shift which I heard it could happen occasionally. However the people that I worked with are really nice and we had fun working together.
Pros
Casual job
Cons
Management

If you value yourself don’t even consider applying for this company
Stylist (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 20 August 2023
This job is only good if u want to make friendships in the shop but be ready coz the regional managers don’t even know what mental health is, they are manipulative, insulting, they don’t care about your availability they will roster you to their liking and many over time that u won’t be paid for and make u do lots of work by yourself and not worth the pay, would put u by yourself in the shop full of customers for hours, with unrealistic budgets and kpi’s and if u don’t make budget they will come after you
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Bad management, managers are just some children

lovisa insights
Areas for improvement
- Overall satisfaction
- Fair pay for job
- General feeling of work happiness
High pressure, low benefits
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 11 July 2023
The only benefit there is working at Lovisa is the 50% discount on overpriced jewelry and if you’re lucky, good teammates. Good teammates will make the workday more bearable. A lot of pressure to meet KPIs which are generally unrealistic

Good place to work
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - George Street NSW - 6 July 2023
However, it is unfortunate that the same cannot be said for the management. The management here has consistently shown a lack of understanding, empathy, and respect for the workers. There seems to be a disconnect between their actions and the well-being of the employees.

Don't work here
Part Time Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - All Sydney NSW - 30 May 2023
The dress code is insanely strict, almost the same as a catholic all-girls school. You’re not allowed to wear any sneaker shoes, boots with laces, no jeans or street cargo pants etc. You have to buy extra clothes to fit their dress code which is not it for the amount they pay. Management cares about their employees enough to be passable for the fair work laws. All they see is money & they keep pressuring us abt add-ons and premium package piercings. If you don't sell add-ons soon, the manager (depending on who) will go feral. Co-workers are honestly a hit or miss. Some are incredibly nice, while others personally crawled from the fiery pits below. The only thing that I enjoyed abt Lovisa was their 50% discount.

Poor management
Store Manager (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 11 December 2022
Management has a strict business mentality, always thinking about making sales. If you were to call in sick and they’re not able to find a cover, you need to go in and work. They care the bare minimum about staffs health and soley about making sales + meeting KPIS. Its too repetitive aswell so it often gets boring. No matter how hard you try, there will always be an excuse made up as to why you didn’t do well enough. The care they have towards your mental health is 0 to none. Also, they are willing to hire AND promote people who have bullying history, aka regionals and state managers.
Pros
Team: The team are absolutely awesome, i had one of the best teams. Amazing people.
Cons
Poor management

Wouldn’t recommend working here
Team Member (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 3 June 2022
So underpaid for the amount of work they expect you to do. $15 an hour for an 18 year old. Roster you on shifts without warning, ignore your availability and time off. The higher up management expect so much from you including to harass customers about sales and add ons. Higher up’s are extremely rude and only care about the money. Dress code is super strict and stupid. They expect so much work to be done by you without any benefit, absolutely wouldn’t recommend working here.

There’s pros and cons
Manager (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 24 May 2022
I got along well with most of the girls I worked with as a team member but you get a lot of pressure from higher up. There’s a ridiculous amount of tasks they ask you to do in such a short amount of time. The dress code is stupid and for the pay it’s only decent if you work full time. Good job for learning and starting off though.

Nightmare Job
Retail Salesperson (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 28 December 2021
Please don't do it. Save yourself from this sinking ship. I pushed through for 3 years and I can say it is the worst place I've ever worked at. I've watched regional managers make girls cry in store, with no compassion. You're going to be treated like an animal and made to feel like you hold no value whatsoever.
Pros
Nothing is worth this pain.
Cons
Unrealistic kpi's Micro managing Terrible communication

Fast Paced and Stressful
Part Time Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 24 November 2021
Lovisa doesn't provide new employees with a lot of training opportunities and expects them to know how to work independently almost immediately after starting. The store team members I've worked with are always the nicest people to work with, however pressure from upper management to meet KPIs makes this job very stressful.

Jobs at lovisa
in Sydney NSWManagement sucks or just lacking.
Stylist (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 26 May 2021
I still work here, but I'm considering quitting. About to hit my 3 year anniversary at Lovisa as a Part Time Stylist. I've stayed at this job because once you learn everything, it's pretty much just going in circles every shift. The most annoying part about this job is the lack of stability and how there's just way too many layers of management. I worked in a store that at one point just didn't have any store managers at all, yet there were so many higher levels of management telling us off for not completing weekly manager tasks. During this time, our store was so disorganised but higher level regional managers didn't really step up to help us out. I also remember a girl being told off last year during winter for wearing a windbreaker, as it wasn't an approved part of clothing, but it's literally freezing cold so idk if they want us to be sick or something instead. So for me, the fact I have to think about every move and potentially having management calling you outside work hours or work days just to lecture you is really annoying and stressful. As for the pay, when I started in my teens, it was real low. As you leave your teens, the rate is better - I'm not sure if I can disclose the rate when your age is 20+ but it's a much less discrepancy to industry averages. Further, you can also potentially be promoted to assistant manager or store manager, but compared to a 20 year old's pay, the rate increase is not worth the additional pressure and stress (the manager rates are flat - regardless of age), so if you're really good and in your teens (somehow available to do full time -
Pros
50% Off Staff Discount. Low pay rate for teens.
Cons
Told off for everything (regardless how small) by management.

unprofessional and poor management
Part Time Team Member (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 22 April 2021
lovisa has been the worst company to work for and is so poorly managed. staff are extremely undertrained but will still get introuble for doing the wrong thing. higher management talks to team members in such a demeaning manner and crosses the line in many ways. get last minute shift changes half way through every week and are expected to work them. was basically interrogated after calling in sick, being asked extremely personal questions like what medication i was on and where and why i wasnt at home.
Pros
staff discount
Cons
management

Absolute Nightmare
Part Time Sales Assistant (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 10 January 2021
Please, please save yourself and reconsider working here. I worked in this nightmare of a place for 2 years, in multiple different stores under multiple different managers, and it was just as bad everywhere. It was the worst experience I've ever had in retail. Team members are usually nice, the regional managers are rude, entitled and extremely condescending. They lack patience and basic human empathy, it's shocking. I've seen them make other employees cry. I've seen many people come into the company and leave within a month or two. Training is sloppy and short. And you're constantly under stress and anxiety from pressure from upper management. Sales expectations are high and unrealistic, but you're pressured to reach them regardless. I'd like to think I have a fairly high tolerance for poor work culture (because of my experience in the work force), but I can comfortably say that I've never been so anxious about going into work.
Pros
50% employee discount
Cons
Pretty much everything.

Managers suck
Part time stylist (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 12 November 2020
Working here just made me anxious, managers are always changing and work place is never consistent. Ridiculous KPIS set out by the managers that were obviously unachievable however they’d still pressure you your entire shift. Everybody just needs to relax, it’s just retail.
Pros
50% discount
Cons
Poorly trained managers, rude regionals and ridiculous kpis

I left as soon as I could
Part Time Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 14 October 2020
I left this job faster than any other job I've had - and I've worked in fast food. Didn't realise how bad this job was until after I'd accepted the offer and read the contract, which outlined a ridiculously tiny hourly wage, and massive expectations about which expensive brands of clothing, make up and hair products staff were expected to wear. During the group interview it was suggested that high heels, etc look good while working. Staff are only promised minimal hours each fortnight, unless they can get sales up enough to earn extra shifts. The amount of paperwork that was expected to be done was absurd, while also managing the floor and upselling to customers. Staff were also expected to purchase and wear current Lovisa products during shifts. The combination of minimal fortnightly shifts, outrageous expectations about wearing expensive clothing and makeup during each shift, a tiny hourly rate and having to purchase store products just does not seem possible to achieve on such low pay! There are many other jobs available that do not have the same unreasonable expectations and attitudes.
Pros
None
Cons
Low pay rate, minimal hours promised, massive expectations about what to wear on shifts, terrible attitudes from higher up

Horrible Higher Management
Part Time Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 20 September 2020
By far the most stressful job I have ever worked at. Stayed until 2am for Christmas with no overtime. Dodgy enterprise agreement. If you don’t sell a certain amount of items you get abused on messages and on the phone Higher management has no respect for personal issues or sickness. You shouldn’t be scared of your higher management but they like the thrill of being controlling I ran the store for many hours without a break and wasn’t paid any supervisor rates! Stay away
Pros
The girls I worked with were nice
Cons
Long hours, expectations high

Run
Sales Assistant (Part-time) (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 10 August 2020
No no no. Run, trust me.
The way they push kpi and targets is absolute insanity and it is honestly like big brother is watching with the amount of dig offs that have to be sent. I think the whole purpose of the regionals is to check off sign offs and call people that aren’t doing well, even though a call full of being told you’re not doing good enough doesn’t actually change the attitudes of the people on the floor, and if anything makes it worse
Pros
50% discount on full price items
Cons
Management is not trained on how to manage

The worst place I’ve ever worked
Manager (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 18 July 2020
Worked for this company for only 7 months and as soon as I started I wanted to leave. First of all the training wasn’t even there you learn absolutely nothing and I was going into a managing roll in the company so I was taught basically how to be a Christmas casual and then when starting they made me do things on my own I had no idea how to and them got in trouble if I did it wrong.
underpaid and working over hours that you aren’t even getting paid for and with job Keeper putting people on 9 hours and others on 36 hours and still getting paid the same? The dress code is stupid and you can’t express yourself as a stylist yet wanting you to style customers. Management are rude and entitled on a huge ego trip and act super intimidating so when you are actually unwell or going through something your almost to scared to even ask for a day off. Will literally have a go over the store having no customers and asking why you made no money when literally no one came in.
When resigning from this company my regional manager called me and was questioning why I was leaving and also asking where and got upset I didn’t tell her when for one it’s absolutely none of her business where I go or why I leave and didn’t speak to me for the whole last week and didn’t receive even a thank you for my time as I worked in 4 stores and tried my hardest. When I had my last week they put me on 38 hours and I was drained and called my regional manager and I told her my mental health can’t handle this and I was asked why I hadn’t spoken to anyone about it yet not once ever was made to comfortable to -
Pros
The discount and some girls you work with
Cons
the whole entire company

Don't work there.
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 11 February 2020
They do nothing but bully you, and treat you like dirt. You are forced to buy add ons that are terrible quality , and I was told I was a disappointment on atleast 3 occasions.

Not an enjoyable place to work
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 2 October 2018
Was paid terribly on a "part-time" (defined as consistent fortnightly hours) basis but they cut my hours down to as little as 6 a week. Managers constantly changing, Sales expectations too high, stock extremely fiddly. My teammates were fun and nice but regional managers rude and intimidating. Presentation expectations high (was told off for wearing black jeans), expectation to wear & purchase new jewellery all the time
Pros
50% Discounts
Cons
Horrible management, bad pay, bad hours, bad culture
