Development opportunities ++++

Indeed Featured review

A typical day at work for me goes from administration to strategy through to creative execution. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Marriott International and have had the opportunity to have a handful of inspiring mentors who I now also consider great friends & are always there in time of advice or guidance. I came to work at Pier One with a variety of operational, sales & events experience, not knowing which department I would find my true passion. I met the General Manager & Executive Committee here who assisted in my development from an Executive Assistant to Director of Brand over 6 years. I couldnt be more proud or happy to be working for Marriott International...the perks, free lunch and amazing accommodation rates certainly also help!

Pros

Discounted accommodation rates worldwide, free staff lunch, private health, development and training programs, laundry, free coffee! And discounted food and beverage worldwide.

Amazing culture - they really care

The fact that the company has so many hotels globally is why I joined - but the reason I have stayed is the culture. This truly is a people first company. I have been able to develop myself through the many L&D programs, plus mentors.

Pros

benefits are good - stay at hotels reduced rates and really good F&B discount, the culture of taking care of people is core to the business, the development opportunities are real

Cons

none

I love this job

Great coworkers, good training programs and employee supports. Pay is pretty good. Management is attentive and care about employees development. The only downside is sometimes you have to work night shifts which can be pretty draining.

Terrible experience

The HR AND MANAGER in Marriott are trying to change you to act like a Marriott people. There is no diversity. They ask all employees to change themselves and to cater for customers.Of course, very low hour rate

Rate your recent company

Share your experience to help others

old office, old computers, old technology, dirty and unorganised.

i was promised to get support and training but never given any training. the manager was manipulative and abusive. there is no HR in the company to give feedback. Payrate is lower than the market. You are being humiliated by manager not a place for women to work.

Pros

nothing

Cons

long unpaid hours, unorganised finance department, in competitive managers.

Productive and fun place with amazing staff

The best hotel in the city center. There is a room for change and improvement in every aspect. I have learned a lot from them. The staff and management are supportive and always besides you when ever you want them.

A luxury brand

Worth to enjoy the workforceIn the past working experience, I was employed at the Ritz-Carlton. The experience taught me to know more on people/humans. Overall, it is an unexpected experience for me to work with, and build up my own (future).Somehow simple words can be the best describe to everything.

Pros

Standards, Strict

Wasn't a good experience

Team dynamics weren't good. Wasn't enough done by management to improve teamwork and efficiency of the team. Very unequal workload given in the team, training needed for the job wasn't given and information about where things were located wasn't sufficient.

Hard work with little return.

I had a fantastic supervisor during my tenure as a kitchen steward in Four Points by Sheraton Docklands. While for the most part I enjoyed my job, its many perks and even befriended some lovely folks, sadly our department was generally taken for granted, underpaid, woefully underappreciated and often even taken advantage of for their tremendous efforts and long hours. Coordination with the FnB crew was also borderline abysmal as the incompetence of their manager at the time was downright flabbergasting.Senior management seemed detached from the reality of floor operations and their attempts to placate rock-bottom morale with appreciation days, seasonal staff buffet and honeyed slogans comes off as insulting because ultimately they only add more workload to the kitchen crew that was already straining to keep up with their demanding jobs. I left for mental health reasons, but can say with clarity my immediate coworkers and a select few outside the department were real industry champions. Were it so easy to extend the same compliment to the rest of the hotel staff.

Pros

Relatively cruisy, intense and fast paced with a lot of responsibility.

Cons

Thankless and physically demanding with no room for progression.

The company and brand use to be good when l started, maybe it is changing due to world.

The management in Sydney Harbour Marriott is very bias. If you are from certain cultures and races, you are protected. Marriott-International is a great company and brand, unfortunately it doesn’t happen in Sydney Harbour Marriott. The management only protect their family members work there and their friends. It’s sad.

Stressful

Worst nightmare. Management was so poor and did not think about its employees. I had to work 10-12 hours a day to finish the workload and only got paid for 7.5 hours. Left the job because it became unbearable.

A great company to work for

I was employed by Marriott for 13 years. During that time I undertook training at various levels. Marriott look after their staff to ensure the staff look after the guests. Good staff discounts regarding meals & accommodation.

it was a very productive place to work, and we had the best people working there

Depending on the job I did we started at different times,it was either cleaning rooms, cleaning public areas of the hotel, collecting Laundry from guest rooms and sending them out to the dry cleaners and putting them back in the rooms when they came back, wash and Iron some staff uniforms, delivering linen to the floors collecting the dirty linen and ready to be picked up in the morning for the outside laundry to collect Management were very fair to all staff, they new every ones names, from the General Manager to supervisors in all departments. i worked in a multicultural hotel so we were all mindful of the differences and their cultures,The hardest part was starting a new place and the saddest was the day I left, the most enjoyable part was that the hotel was like a family, and the different celebrations we had in the 16 years I was there, I have missed working there in the last 4 years

Interessante e molto rigido
