Good for casuals

Generally a good place to work. Very flexible work arrangements, and work culture is mostly friendly. Very good salary benefits and salary sacrificing but limited career advancement.

Learnt a variety roles

Great place to work and I learnt a variety of roles around the hospital. Staff were nice and helped whenever I had questions about my new roles. I would work there again.

Don’t bother

Extremely unsafe work environment. Midwives not supported by the obstetricians or management. Policies not adhered to. Patient and midwife ratios unsafe and dangerous.

Pros

Free dinner if working overtime, finishing a shift

Cons

Looks boge

Dedicated Staff

Good working environment. Opportunity for growth and development. Dedicated staff, patient centred. One of the better hospitals. Enjoyed time working there.

Great for Professional Development and Growth

Was so lovely to deal with the patients whilst working there. Opportunity to learn and develop was highly encouraged. HP3 does approximately 80% clinical workload, and 20% admin and quality improvement activities. HP4 level does about 70% clinical workload, and 30% admin and quality improvement activities. HP3 will generally get out on time, but HP4 levels usually have an unwritten expectation that you put in extra hours. Would give five stars if they didn't have bad workplace politics (they aren't good at dealing with bullies in the workplace).

Lovely work environment

I really enjoyed working for mater group. The work environment was one of the best I've worked in, no drama, great supportive team and always willing to help when needed.

Pros

Great work environment, Flexible Hours

Cons

Short notice of shifts

flexibility for staff, never boring

Often staff are moved all over the hospital without permission and it is expected that you will be cheerful and eager to help. Pay is significantly under Qld health rates. Location of hospital is lovely, near the river and Southbank. Many staff are on contracts long term with no process in place to become permanent.

Pros

many staff work part time and are not pressured to be full time

Cons

being moved around, uniform, lack of recognition

Not supportive environment

Very clicky environment, small team with ingrained bad habits and unwilling to be challenged about it. After using electronic record keeping for over 10 years prior to coming to Mater, I realised how behind Mater is due to old fashioned paper files being a main record keeping tool. I do not recommend anyone to work there.

Hard work but great people

Work is difficult and long hours but great staff who make the tough days bareable and the sense of team is definitely embraced. It’s very different to public.

Pros

Overtime, staff

Cons

Tough work

Incompetent Management

Mater hospital used be a good place to work but now the new management has completely sidelined the base level staff. The enterprise agreements are overdue by almost 2 years. Complete lack of communication from the management. Nursing, doctors, support services, maintenance staff are on the verge of taking industrial action against the incompetent HR management, directors and CEO of Mater Hospital.

Cons

Carelessness of the management

Lousy work place

Not good to work as a casual. Payroll staff can not get the pay right and will not do off cycle pay runs to correct their mistakes. Supervisors sack to follow up. Casual staff have rent and bills to pay too, Poor culture for a catholic owned organisation.

Pros

None

Cons

Not worth the mention

Poor Management

Have worked for this company over 6 years in clinical support and the culture and management has dramatically declined. It’s all about budgeting and squeezing every ounce of work out of its employees. Staff shortages, meeting KPI’s and working overtime is the new normal here.

Pros

Close to shops

Cons

Overworked

Bullying in the work place is very toxic

Worked at this place for many years the culture it toxic in the wards some better than others alot of back stabbing, I ended up leaving due to lack of self esteem and breaking down in tears due to not wanting to go back in for another day. Wouldn't work in administrative area ever again and its not the administrative girls so much as the management, midwives and nurses treating you like .... and laughing behind your back. Sorry Mater if there was a half star you would have got that star ⭐️

Pros

Good pay not enough to take your esteem though

Cons

Bullying very bad

Horrible management

Such an awful work environment. High stress, high workload, lots of pressure. Terrible manager, they don’t care about bullying, and for a catholic organisation they treat returning to work mothers very poorly. People only stay because of the pay but everyone is so depressed.

Pros

Good salary

Cons

Management, bullying culture, lack of job security

Very poor, long-standing culture.

2 different senior positions, long-term and well known toxic peer in one position, bullying manager im other position. Mater is trying to address poor culture but will be a long tlme before this terrible culture is stamped out

Pros

Close to bus station

Cons

Poor management

Soul crushing work

I would not recommend this work to anyone. Workplace culture is competitive and managers refuse to listen. The pay is not worth the torment that follows closely behind it.
