Good First Job

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
McDonalds is a good first job because it teaches you to cope with a somewhat stressful work environment and always be ready for anything when you are working. At the McDonalds I worked at, it was a more rural and a bit further out in the bush than the other McDonalds in the city which meant less people worked there and I got decent shifts. I have heard that other people got less shifts though so if you can, try and work at a more rural, secluded McDonalds. Pay is low for younger workers so just use McDonalds for work experience.

Pros

Good to learn how to work in stressful fast-paced workplaces

Cons

Sometimes not many shifts

Cons

Great for a first job

Super fast-paced and you are expected to multitask so many things at one time for minimum pay. Customers can be rude sometimes but a lot of them were fairly nice. It taught me valuable skills as a teenager with no previous job experience and became more confident interacting with strangers because of it. Poor job security ofc and wouldnt recommend too much for anyone over 19 unless you want to become a manager.

Pros

Discounts, Breaks, Certification opportunities, flexible

Cons

Little pay, stressful, super fast paced.

Good place for experience

If you are brand new in the work force then McDonalds is a good opportunity due to the fact that they will get you to do a variety of tasked but McDonalds is very strict on what certain genders can do for example the females will work at the front of the store and the men would mainly be at the back making burgers and sometimes there are men at the front but they only want pretty people at front. But for a few months of experience it’s good

Pros

Discounted foods

Cons

Managers have favourites and you can see

Stressful, busy and terrible hours

You're expected to work as efficiently as a robot and if you don't, you'll be told off by management. If you're not making orders then you're expected to be equally efficient in cleaning the store. If you're a good worker then management will put you on every Friday and Saturday night indefinitely and they have no interest in their employee's sleeping schedules. They'll roster you for night shifts, day shifts and morning shifts all in one week.

Amazing place to advance your skills

Future employers love a Maccas employee.I worked there for over 10 years- they teach you an amazing set of skills that are valuable in any industry.Same as most places, you won't love everyone you work with or for- but if you really try to work hard there are always opportunities for advancement, and you'll always be able to find someone who understands you.Not to mention it's a great place to make a lot of life long friends

Pros

Transferable skills, face paced, make good friends

Cons

The higher you go the harder it is to balance work and life

Good Workplace for shorter periods

It's a great workplace for a first job, but if you're there long enough you can get stuck. The Management is great, but the managers can get caught up in the competitiveness of the store to others, forgetting about being polite and kind to others. I loved this job for a long time but I wouldn't stay too long.

Pros

Free food, Flexible hours, friendships

Cons

long hours, uncomfortable conditions at times

Productive

Need to move on to move up.In order to progress in the basic skills learnt in the fast food industry it is essential to move onto other more broad focusing venues, such as gaming and alcohol.

Pros

Cheap lunch

Cons

Bad pay

The days are sometimes stressful but other times it's just a great environment to be in and you get the opportunity to meet great people. Wouldn't recommend mcdonald's for people over 18

Productive environment

First day of shift was excellent. Went amazing. I'm going to be glad when I get a promotion. The employees that work with you are wonderful and helpful. They make sure you understand what you're doing and if you need help they'll ask you if they see you're struggling

Pros

50% half hour before your shift and after

Cons

Its a place to work

Really not much to say, its mcdonalds. Managment doesn't really care, you arent getting paid much and you are going to be doing a lot. It is the moat standard job you can get.

Pros

You get paid

Cons

You work way more than you get paid for.
