Greedy partners - harsh environment

Too much focus on generating more work with limited to no support for staff. Very harsh environment in Australian office. Very weak on diversity - strong bias towards natives

Hugely impactful Firm solving some of the worlds biggest problems

Work hard, play hard would best describe the Australian office at McKinsey & Company. The people are brilliant in every possible way and they (mostly) don't take themselves too seriously despite the fact that they're solving huge problems alongside some very powerful people. Everyone is trying to improve their own performance at all reaches of the Firm, so everyone is always learning something new and calls out their development needs, which I've never experienced anywhere else. Project work has great variety.

Pros

Healthcare, colleagues are exceptional and welcoming, it's a very close community, non-hierarchical

Cons

With big problem solving comes lots of pressure, so sometimes people get stressed. Lots of travel, long hours for consultants and time away from home.
