Damaging experience

Non-supportive and Stressful
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Zillmere QLD - 1 November 2022
Management WILL set you up to fail if they deem you not worthy enough. They will lie to you instead of supporting you. You WILL work outside of your scope and be expected to do more than required. The pressure from this will impact your family and personal life.

Hiding in plain sight.
As if I'd say! (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 26 January 2022
Bullying, unrealisitic expectations in work, favouritism and low staff carefactor, no respect, they may be half decent to their customers but shocking towards their staff, 75% staff turn over is proof in itself! Worst job I've ever had, glad to be out of there!
Pros
None
Cons
Promises never fullfilled.

Work kpis

KPIs were too high and expectations were too high. Staff were never rewarded for their hard work and burn out easily happened. The pay was low compared to the work we did and it was frustrating
Pros
Great team
Cons
Long hours, no compensation for kms

Very large work load with good pay
Team Leader/Coordinator (Former Employee) - Zillmere QLD - 10 August 2021
Very long hours and little time for a life outside of work. Good pay and salary sacrificing are a pro, but you can only do this job for a period of time as it is stressful and the work load is very big.

Very professional and knowledgable
Disability Support Worker (Former Employee) - Zillmere QLD 4034 - 2 March 2021
Mercy has been delivering disability services in their centres for decades before moving to community under the NDIS. They are very professional and knowledgeable in this area of practice. Workplace culture in generally supportive, and Mercy has a tendency to employ tertiary educated support workers. Problems are found generally with the uneducated employees who like to utilise underhanded tactics as they do not know any better. This causes issues for other employees and management, and can cause the people they support to become stuck in a rut.
Pros
Good management, good staff
Cons
Long hours need to be worked to make ends meet due to the low pay rate

Great team on Gold Coast. Supportive and fun.
NDIS Support Coordinator (Former Employee) - Gold Coast QLD - 20 October 2020
The GC team were dynamic, passionate and very professional. One thing I would add. You would need to be well up on computer knowledge to do well in this work. This organisation on the mid to southern end of Queensland have a great support system from management down to support coordinators and is well worth working for. Kind regards
Pros
Great relationships
Cons
Long hours on computer

Youthwork is stressful
Youth Worker (Former Employee) - Cairns QLD - 19 May 2020
Mercy had the young people who had no where else to go. They were angry and confused, leading to very volatile engagements. The management were supportive but, as most orgs in New, they were very reactive.

poor management
Coordinator & RCW (Current Employee) - Nudgee QLD - 20 April 2020
majority of the managers are focused on the wrong areas. They focus on making money for the organisation instead of the Children, who the organisation is supposed to be focused on.
Management are also poor at budgeting, creating to many top heavy roles which results and funding being micro-managed.
The organisation has no trust for its employees, any "Personal leave" days that you take, they enforce you get a medical certificate. So you are unable to have "Mental Health" days. This organisation's PLT has also stated that their staff have "Victim mentalities" and "Find excuses to not do their job", but they also don't give a formal induction for any role outside of working on the floor.
Management will skip all Verbal and Written warning and will force you to go into a HR meeting, forcing you to sign Performance evaluation contract, I have seen this happen more than once.
But besides the poor management over the past year (specially within the regional directors roles), the worst issue Mercy has is that they traumatise their Young People, instead of matching cotenants to help each Young Person Grow, they take the first offer from placement services. this has lead to Young People with sexualised behaviours being put in programs together, Young People who are heavy drug users/or sniffing glue paired with younger, easily influenced young people, also refusing to close placements - I have seen multiple programs where there are 1-3 traumatised young people being assaulted daily from an aggressive Young Person and still refusing to end the placement, causing more trauma to the -

excellent place to work
NDIS Support Coordinator SWQ (Former Employee) - Toowoomba QLD - 27 January 2020
Loved it. challenging, helpful, experiences. Would work there again. welcoming staff all round. Only problem was lack of necessary resources given in order to provide and meet job description. I really liked my Manager, collegues and the work. I appreciate to this day, the experience and the people - stakeholders, staff, participants. It was truly a good job and I would definitely work with Mercy again.

Starts out great but then turns wrong payroll mess up pays, staff can be quite nasty and bullying, management can take a while to follow up on incidents

Self care.
Supported Living Programme Worker (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 4 December 2019
Self care is terribly important and easily ignored by management and your desire to soldier on for clients' sake.
The pay is good. Ironically the operations person is terribly non empathetic and is arrogantly dismissive of concerns you may put forward.
Pros
Satisfaction for clients well cared for by support workers.
Cons
Lack of support from upper management.

inefficient management of Home Care Packages team
Roster Co-ordinator - Home Care (Former Employee) - Nudgee QLD - 5 March 2019
I only worked for Mercy Care for a few months - bad management from the top and some mismanagement from within their Home Care Packages Team resulted in wasted / misspent funds
Sending Personal Support worker from Brisbane North to cover a 1 hours shift near Ipswich on a weekly basis and sending the same PSW to Gold Coast from Brisbane North to cover a 1 - 2 hour shift - took PSW out of the roster for a day each week to drive huge distances
Pros
morning tea most days
Cons
staff not sharing information
