Company was good at first and then it went down hill from there.
Sales Professional (Former Employee) –  NSW SOUTH20 February 2019
The hardest job i have ever had. The constant pressure to gold star and the fear of retaliation if you red dotted was unbelievable and extremely stressful. There is NO COMMISSION and they make it so hard for any employee to make a bonus. Its all about making money for management and not yourself. I would not recommend them to anyone.
Pros
Discount on jewellery
Cons
Stress level through the roof

Hard to work for
Retail Sales/Diamond Expert Sales (Former Employee) –  Gold Coast QLD23 January 2019
A lot of pressure to reach targets and KPI's. Have to push customers to buy the Professional Care Plans. Always in competition with your co-workers as you try to get a sale and get it before the other staff do. A lot of problems with other staff stealing your sales. Found other staff to be gossipers. Only good part of the job was making friend with some of the staff and the discount is good.
Pros
the discounts
Cons
have to sell professional care plans and make customers buy more than one item, Other staff stealing your sale.

I enjoyed this position greatly - talking to customers and showing the jewellery was fantastic.

I enjoyed learning about jewellery and mostly about the way some of the goods were made.

Office Administrator (Current Employee) –  Bendigo VIC4 November 2018
I love to be the person who helps a couple find their forever ring.

Hard parts are the budget requirements weekly.

My philosophy is to offer the client the best possible customer service and in store experience, and the rest will fall into place.
Pros
Staff Price
Cons
Non that come to mind

Toxic Company
Manager (Current Employee) –  Sydney NSW23 July 2018
It's such a shame such a large and well resources company is 100% focused on taking every possible dollar from the customer and has zero interest in staff. Their mantra is burn and churn with a 50% staff turnover rate annually. The expectation from managers is to keep staff on edge emotionally which drives sales in their view as fear creates desperation to get sales. The KPI's are measured after EVERY sale interaction as the manager is required to "coach" which means "discipline" after every guest contact. Also check the terms of the PCP care plan - it says 3 years or lifetime but in the fine print it's value is up to the cost of the item. So if you buy a lifetime PCP on an item for $89 you get $89 worth of repair value and then the PCP is no longer valid. It's in the fine print on the brochure they give you. Don't be tricked by the exclusive "collections" by MH. It's the same as everything else but comes with no discount and has a massive mark up. The best one is the 10 carat gold line, it last forever, NO it's used because when they entered the USA market which has a base of 10 carat all products had to be the same company wide so that's the marketing spin which comes with a rediculous mark up. Also, if you loose a diamond and use their replacement warranty, I would ask for written confirmation that the quality of the diamond is the same as the one you lost. It may look like the colour matches but is the grading the same, example a H Si2 can look a lot like a P1 of which no-one would know but the value is very different. It's bad for business when you are so focused  more... on the shareholder and everything comes a distant second, lot's of missed opportunities right there.  less
Pros
Shop fit out and display's
Cons
Toxic culture, not the Australian way to treat people or customers

It has been many years since I worked here. It was not as I was used to overseas. Sales targets really take the fun out of retail and is overall not ideal for the workplace relations

Fun place to work with a great environment
Casual Sales Consultant (Former Employee) –  Castle Hill NSW2 March 2018
A typical day at work began with cleaning the store and arranging all the jewelry in its respective display. The work environment was very informal and the colleagues were very supportive and they patiently trained us when we first joined. The job included welcoming customers and making sure they were satisfied, ensuring the customers felt comfortable at all times in the store, boxing & packing the jewelry and ensuring the store was always clean and tidy. Overall, the experience was great!

Overall Good Company To Get Training With
STORE MANAGER (Former Employee) –  Sydney NSW21 January 2018
Overall it is a good company to get your foundations of selling, understanding of businesses, large and small.
Unfortunately does not a the greatest work life balance, like all retail business, the doors never close except for Christmas and good friday which means your phone is never switched off and its always inconvenient to take holidays.
Great for job security as long as you are successful in your position. and constantly trying to achieve more and do your best, falls on deaf ears if your not achieving targets.
Would recommend anyone to give it a try and understand how to deal with high stress environment and good foundation for the rest of your sales career
Pros
Job Security
Cons
No work life balance, Made to feel guilty going on holidays

Managers are either sensational or terrible
Sales Professional (Former Employee) –  Melbourne VIC10 May 2017
A typical day in the job involves setting up the store, cleaning the jewellery, taking repair dockets, lead generation, diamond presentations, sales, up-selling. I earned just over $19 an hour. If you are designated to the right management you are encouraged and made worthy of more education undertaken, some managers are disgusting and some staff members lodge harrassment and bullying.
Each store values different parts of the Michael Hill promise. So you really have to pick your manager.
The most enjoyable part of the job is customers and yearly events with the state, as well as commission and recognition.
Pros
Positive environment, constantly learning
Cons
Management can be nasty

Overall a nice atmosphere but being a christmas casual it was a bit hard to learn new things due to the business, and you were expected to know these things even though no one would tech you. Salary was very good and overall a fun job just stressfull at times
