Optus likes to show that it has a great culture. Ground reality is different.
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Optus Campus Sydney - 16 January 2022
Optus does not 'walk the talk'. They like to show the world that they are an organisation with great culture and environment which encourages talent. However, the ground reality is quite the opposite. You will be promoted or considered for good roles in the company if you have the right connections. If you work hard and depend on merit this is not the place for you to be in. Sycophancy is rampant in Optus - if this is your forte you will succeed in Optus.
Pros
Great campus, paid beer and expensive food courts.
Cons
Friends and family are encouraged and promoted by leaders at the cost of true performers.

Good Opportunities
Project Manager (Former Employee) - NSW - 7 October 2018
Good opportunities available for personal development. But will not give opportunities for promotions. Company culture is changing and becoming harder to work.
Pros
Good opportunities for personal development
Cons
Poor management

Good place to work
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Macquarie Park NSW - 25 August 2018
I have been with Optus for over 13 years and have enjoyed working here. The people and culture is great. I have had many memorable moments and have achieved my fullest potential. Management are fair and allow you to freely develop your maximum. The hardest part of the job is the current retrenching of staff. Many of my friends and colleagues have left. The most enjoyable part is being no.1 and the positive challenges we faced.
Pros
Recognition
Cons
Low moral at the moment

Used to be a great a great place to work
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Macquarie Park NSW - 20 January 2018
The company is full of silos leading to poor inter departmental dealings and broken processes. Twice yearly restructuring seems to be the only strategy applied by senior management.
The company used to have a great culture, but now it’s become vary divided with a clear line between management and staff.
Location and campus is great and you do get good benefits and a flexible work life balance.
Pros
Great work life balance
Cons
Too many silos make delivering even the most simple service painful

All about the bottom line
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Adelaide SA - 15 August 2016
A culture that is all about the company's bottom line. People are just resources to be used until no longer useful. No big picture. No forward planning. No clear and strong management plan. Zero communication.
Pros
Staff discount on phones and the occasional free shoelaces.
Cons
Culture. Management.

Management and Career
Project Manager (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 1 August 2016
The Optus campus is good environment to work in but overall the work life balance is heavily slanted towards work. Getting a promotion to a management position is next impossible unless you know the hirer. Work ethic, experience and personal results do not seem to count for much when applying for a new role within the company. Senior management do not think holistically and only go for short term gains and people would rather hide failure then reveal the truth when it comes to project and program deliverables.
Pros
Campus Environement
Cons
Constant staff restructures - little to no chance of promotion
