Qantas Employee Review

Extremely under resourced good benefits if you ever make it on a flight

Due to Covid, the company is highly under resourced which leads to long workdays days and a reduced life balance. The flight benefits are good but not as high as expected, you might pay less if you have a good travel agent than if you use the “benefits “. A “new” employee it not likely to get on a flight as employees who worked at Qantas for longer will beat out new employees. It doesn’t matter how early you book a flight, the employment years count. You won’t get on a plane on school holidays or public holidays. The salary is not high, I thought that’s ok because of the flight benefits but it’s unfortunately not, as the benefits aren’t great. I can’t afford to use the flight benefit more than once or twice a year because it’s still too expensive and I actually planned to do lots of small trips.

Pros

Flight discounts

Cons

Highly under resourced

Challenging times

Working for the iconic brand does not compensate for the uncertainty of not knowing when the next employee cut will come (very often). Salaries are below market rate.It is not a place to challenge the status quo, just do what you are told and it will be fine.Good performance is not always recognised and efforts do not often reflect what you receive. They want flexibility but there is no clear direction; it is lost somewhere in middle levels of management (who does not communicate well, it is under pressure, often not skilled for management roles and relying on trendy talk but poor delivery). Most employees are excellent colleagues, good mates, really good spirited people who wants to try their best in difficult circumstances. Career promotions are not necessarily based on merit or skills but mostly who you know, how much money you saved short term and if you are willing to work more for less.

Pros

Travel benefits

Cons

Workplace climate

I learned so much. It was a great company to work for at the time.

I worked in many areas of Qantas Holidays. It is a big company so there is plenty of opportunity to progress and grow. Perhaps in the current environment it may not be so secure.

Pros

Big respected and well known brand

Cons

Large political at times. You can get lost in the crowd.

Ghastly company to work for!

Managers climbing the ladder, worried only about their own personal KPI and bonuses. Toxic workplace culture of backstabbing and dobbing in order to get promotion. Management harassing over sick leave, The board completely detached from its workforce.

Pros

For the most part, great work mates.

Cons

Toxic work culture.
