Extremely under resourced good benefits if you ever make it on a flight
Manager (Current Employee) - Mascot NSW - 13 March 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedDue to Covid, the company is highly under resourced which leads to long workdays days and a reduced life balance. The flight benefits are good but not as high as expected, you might pay less if you have a good travel agent than if you use the “benefits “. A “new” employee it not likely to get on a flight as employees who worked at Qantas for longer will beat out new employees. It doesn’t matter how early you book a flight, the employment years count. You won’t get on a plane on school holidays or public holidays. The salary is not high, I thought that’s ok because of the flight benefits but it’s unfortunately not, as the benefits aren’t great. I can’t afford to use the flight benefit more than once or twice a year because it’s still too expensive and I actually planned to do lots of small trips.
Pros
Flight discounts
Cons
Highly under resourced

Ghastly company to work for!
Flight Attendant (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 10 February 2022
Managers climbing the ladder, worried only about their own personal KPI and bonuses. Toxic workplace culture of backstabbing and dobbing in order to get promotion. Management harassing over sick leave, The board completely detached from its workforce.
Pros
For the most part, great work mates.
Cons
Toxic work culture.

Very stressful and under staffed
Scheduler (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 2 February 2022
Very stressful job, no time for lunch most days, always staying back to get work finished, need more employees but not in the budget. Management is always changing and coming in with new ideas and processes that never work as we've been down these paths before but they need to come up with something to earn their bonus and then move on to another department leaving the employees to manage everything.
Pros
Iconic company
Cons
Almost impossible to get on a flight on standby, Management is always changing, Management works on a yearly bonus so will screw the department to make the bonus

I am very impressed with their handling of the pandemic in their support for crew and customers
Customer Services Manager - On board (Current Employee) - Mascot - 2 February 2022
I have had the best experience working for Qantas. I am very loyal and do my best at my job always. I respect the decisions Qantas makes and follow policies set down by the company. Qantas works in a safe manner at all times
Pros
Discounted Airfares - Shift work
Cons
You can become fatigued, however Qantas does manage Fatigue seriously.

Great airline with dedicated staff
Business Analyst (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 21 January 2022
Fantastic airline to work for. I was there for almost 25yrs and during that time faced many challenges (effects of 9/11, Ansett collapse, airline shutdown, QF32 engine failure, volcanic disruptions etc) but everyone always pulled together to get through the difficult times.
Pros
There was a LOT of experience in the team. Even in the most extremely stressful situations, you knew it was going to be ok.
Cons
Stressful and fast paced. Lots of regulatory and award restrictions to deal with.

Challenging times
Manager (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 11 December 2021
Working for the iconic brand does not compensate for the uncertainty of not knowing when the next employee cut will come (very often). Salaries are below market rate. It is not a place to challenge the status quo, just do what you are told and it will be fine. Good performance is not always recognised and efforts do not often reflect what you receive. They want flexibility but there is no clear direction; it is lost somewhere in middle levels of management (who does not communicate well, it is under pressure, often not skilled for management roles and relying on trendy talk but poor delivery). Most employees are excellent colleagues, good mates, really good spirited people who wants to try their best in difficult circumstances. Career promotions are not necessarily based on merit or skills but mostly who you know, how much money you saved short term and if you are willing to work more for less.
Pros
Travel benefits
Cons
Workplace climate

High achievers - stay away
anonymous (Current Employee) - Mascot NSW - 27 November 2020
Most people are here for the perks - not for enriching their skills. Work is done primarlily in silos with a "Union" style attitude. There is no sense of urgency because no-one cares. Hippies that enjoy their stay suck up to senior management to get promoted - and it works. This is so they get a higher staff-travel onboarding priority. They want that business/first class upgrade before the hard working colleague who works around the clock doing somebody else' work - and their own. A typical day at work involves communicating with teams that push every task to their Sprint planning backlog. They claim to be too busy. Even when they get around to the task, it is poorly executed. Plagued by errors and lack of attention to detail. So, simple onboarding tasks that can take a couple of minutes to complete, end up taking a week - at least. This includes continually having to follow up with the respective team and assigned resource. Forget about streamlined processes. They don't exist. Senior management turn up to meetings and talk. Yes, talk. No agenda. No action items. I'll sum up by saying that, if you have "fire in your belly", have a desire to progress by always maintaining adherence to a strong work ethic, qantas is not who you should aim to work for.
Pros
staff travel
Cons
Stale work culture. Success depends on what comes out of your mouth - not your accomplishments

The company is very proficient every thing is organized and well prepared in advance scheduling and informing is well presented in advance and any change in the work criteria is addressed immediately and avoided if possible so that little interruptions can happen. Over all the system is well organized as said before.
Pros
All needs provided from uniforms to manuals and tools
Cons
No cons if you are a professional worker and love what you do

It was ok.
Qantas Traineeship - Baggage Handler/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 24 August 2020
I started working along with 2 other students and we were basically just thrown wherever as we weren’t put in the roster and timetables straight away. There was multiple occasions where the allocation officers would put us on jobs we didn’t know how to do because they didn’t train us, there was a huge disconnect between my traineeship company and Qantas as there were several ongoing problems that were never solved such as getting appropriate uniform, we never received jumpers even during the winter time. Despite all the issues I encountered while working there I enjoyed the job itself, it’s a good job for someone who is hands-on and there was always a lot of work considering aviation runs 365 days a year
Pros
Fun job, good co-workers, flexible
Cons
Not much communication, hours differ, poor traineeship management

Many middle management and below roles (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 29 May 2020
I worked in many areas of Qantas Holidays. It is a big company so there is plenty of opportunity to progress and grow. Perhaps in the current environment it may not be so secure.
Pros
Big respected and well known brand
Cons
Large political at times. You can get lost in the crowd.

Internal Technology Talent Acquisition Consultant (Former Employee) - Mascot NSW - 14 May 2020
Qantas is one of the best places I’ve ever worked. It’s collaborative, consultative, effective, professional and fun. The team I worked with were fabulous! I loved every minute of working at Qantas. The only reason I left was because it was a really long commute for me. Benefits by the bucket load and lots a great career opportunity too.
