Staff travel and mateship.
Customer Service (Former Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 3 July 2023
Leadership from my Managers in the area I worked under was what I strived to achieve for myself. Colleagues were the best part of your working day. Staff Travel benefits were good, but as the years have gone on, it’s not what it used to be. Salary was good for my job title. The operational side of being part of an airport team, is an adrenaline rush.
Pros
Staff travel
Cons
Not enough work/life/balance

Lounge Runner (Current Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 8 May 2023
Very fast paced work environment. If you work mornings your day can start as early as 4:30 and finish around 12:30-1pm. Management can be abit of work but everyone else that I work with have been generally really lovely and we stick together and help each other out. The hardest part is definitely the long hours, just make sure you have a good pair of shoes as your feet will kill you by the end of the shift if you don’t!

Don’t be fooled
Freight Handler (Current Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 26 September 2021
When I tell people I work for qantas , it’s always the same reply : wow what a great company to work for! It could not be further from the truth. On paper qantas paints a perfect picture but irregular hours , incompetent wages, incompetent management and faulty machinery is just the beginning. You risk your health your quality of life for almost minimum wage, not too mention the amount of responsibility placed on your shoulders. Online course after course you show that the company actually cares but doesn’t ! Your’re just a number to the company nothing more!
Pros
Working with good people
Cons
Too many to mention

Great Crew - Woeful Management
Cabin Crew (Former Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 4 June 2021
It is a such a shame that Qantas really is no longer the spirit of Australia. To management you are a number. Nothing more. The crew cannot be faulted. They are a fabulous melting pot of people who you will become extremely close with in a very short amount of time. Management however are ruining what was once a company you could be proud of. Using Covid as a reason to sack workers and rehire cheap labour hire, eroding in-flight product, ignoring eba's with no consequence, treating casual crew appallingly. Go into the role with your eyes open.
Pros
Staff travel if full time / part time, flexible roster and start times, no day is the same
Cons
Seniority based rostering, bids are not successful in some ports, trip swapping is next to impossible, long term health repercussions

the hardest part of the job is the shift work it can mess up your sleeping pattern, management is very polite and understanding, very cruisy and easy job if you don't have other commitments such as uni, or anything that requires a lot of your spare time
Pros
Good people, good benefits, easy job
Cons
early hours, shift work, hard to balance with something such as uni

CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER (Former Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 3 December 2017

Dissapointing
Cabin Crew (Current Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 1 December 2017
I currently work as CABIN CREW and I'm so disappointed in QF.
The recruitment process was exceptionally such a long wait (1 whole year of being on hold) and I finally got into the job only to realise it was totally nothing like they say it's going to be.
Like I've said, there was so much constant heavy lifting, pushing, pulling and you're constantly on your feet, especially when you have the shorter flights and there's absolutely NO time for a break during your entire day at work. They make it out to be such a wonderful amazing job and honestly guys it is so far from that. When you fly so much you notice some changes in your body and it's so hard to cope with such a terribly low wage to compensate.
There's also a lot of a crazy emphasis put on seniority so there's lots of people who have been working there for decades and treat you like you are young and you know absolutely nothing in the world.
I don't recommend. Really had my hopes up for this job.
Pros
Crew meals
Cons
Long hours, low pay, high seniority, short rest, jet lag, fatigue, long recruitment process
