NZ based Jetconnect crew - LOVED it :)

Such a fun place to work, I was working for NZ based Qantas as a short haul flight attendant and the staff were always amazing and accommodating for me when I was sick/needed to swap trips.

Great back in the day

Great colleagues and a fantastic job back in the day. Shift work was exhausting but that is part of the job. Sad to hear about how things have changed.

Yes place to work in

A Typical Day at Work:A regular day at Qantas Freight involves diligently loading and unloading planes. The pace is quick, and the emphasis is on safety and timely handling of cargo ONLY.What I Learned: Working here has taught me the intricacies of cargo handling and the importance of ensuring that freight is treated with utmost care. It’s a constant learning experience that melds physical work with understanding the logistics behind airline operations.Management:Management at Qantas Freight is generally supportive. Many of the male managers have gone above and beyond to ensure our needs are met and that we're set up for success.Workplace Culture: The team culture at Qantas Freight is one of its standout features. Colleagues are approachable and friendly, which makes for a positive work atmosphere. The environment promotes collaboration, respect, and teamwork. The Hardest Part of the Job:Nature has its way of challenging us, especially during the rainy days. Ensuring we remain dry while efficiently managing cargo becomes an added task, but it's an integral part of the outdoor job.The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:The benefits at Qantas Freight are truly commendable. The staff travel discounts are a significant perk, allowing us to explore the world at more affordable rates. Conclusion:Qantas Freight is an exceptional place to work, underpinned by a supportive management, a friendly team, and enviable benefits. Whether you're passionate about aviation or logistics, this is a workplace where you can truly thrive.

Caring, Inclusive, Modern and Employee Focused

I've only been employed for 1 month but since commencement they have been nothing short of amazing in the sense that they have always accommodated new employees needs. I had an injury 2 weeks into my training and my manager bent over backwards to find me a place in another class once I was fit to recommence. The company portal is extremely informative and they make you feel like a member of the family. The head office building in Sydney where the training is held is incredible, it almost feels like its own small city, because everything is provided, cafes and eateries in the Qantas building. They also encourage staff to level up by providing training in all facets of the business, so that we can move up in the company such as into corporate once we are qualified. I love Qantas, best company I've ever worked for.

Traumatising onboarding and training

After I was told I got the job, I was so ecstatic. I quit my job to get all the required certifications (this is NOT cheap). Then they kept telling me that my training is delayed due to limited space and too many new hires. I waited 4 months to finally start. Once I started, my peers dropped off like flies- you need to pass above 80% in theory exams. If you get less than 80% then they sack you. The company has no remorse firing anyone who doesn’t succeed off the get-go since it’s within probation and they can always hire more. The company does not care about us and we are just replaceable numbers to them. Plus they have the audacity to expect so much only to pay us 47k. This is the worst company I’ve ever worked for, I have never felt so worthless in my life.

They treat new employees like we’re disposable

Qantas’ hiring strategy is quantity > quality. They over-hire with the expectation to let people go during probation. They watch over you like a hawk during training. You need to get above 80% in written, in-person exams and if you don’t - you get disciplinary warnings. If you “fail” (<80) two or more they basically fire you because they have an unlimited pool of new employees. They are hiring so many people that there is a backed up waiting list for training. So even if you “get the job” you might not be able to start for up to 1 year. The whole experience was physically and mentally traumatising.

Fun workplace

loved it so much, best job i have ever been to. Training was hard but very well worth it in the end. Took about a month between training and getting the job to be able to fly.

sink or swim attitude

spend a lot of time and money before you even start.Lots of hoops to jump through. It's a real struggle and so many test and training is really intense.Very stressful.

Pros

free travel

Cons

Long hours

Long haul

I joined when they had long haul now its ultra long haul and i just couldnt do it any more. Managers are thin on the ground and seem too focussed on disciplinaries

Toxic work culture

This company thrives on a culture of fear and intimidation, believing that there is always another person to fill your shoes and they are all too happy to point you towards the door. The work involves long hours, constant time changes, rigorous emergency training and compliance, as well as the usual highs and lows of dealing with the public who are becoming increasingly more demanding

Pros

Travel; work colleague comerardery.

Cons

Impossible to achieve a work/life balance, culture of dobbing and back stabbing, cumulative jetlag and fatigue.

Ups and downs

Mostly enjoyable due to colleagues. A lot of standing required and marshalling of aircraft. Most staff want to provide excellent customer service however hands are tied. In saying that, a lot of rude horrible pax but the decent ones do make up for it. Staff travel ok but not what it used to be. Have to work weekends and penalty shifts to get a decent wage. Mostly enjoyed it at the time but would not go back to it now.

Low crew morale, poor management, good benefits

The crew culture is very underwhelming...everyone hates the company and management. Morale is very very low. Very long hours and tiring work. Layovers are getting shorter and homerest is insufficient. Poor work like balance. Good benefits like staff travel.

Pros

Staff travel, see the world

Cons

Long hours, crew culture, short rest periods

No life balance

No job security pay is minimal below average Management have know idea who to treat staffNepotism goes along way is this company you never get rewarded for going above and beyond.

Not what it used to be

You will make great friends but have no support from management. You will not be a valued employee. Staff travel is more stressful than it’s worth . Your life work balance will be shot. Rosters aren’t given with enough notice

Better jobs out there

Not treated good here, you name it. I’ve never seen anything as bad as this company. The good workers get picked on, leading hands are bullies. They have people working there with no experience and no training. And the pay is low. You will get much better pay somewhere else. Average pay is like 22 dollars an hour. You get injured your treated like it’s your fault.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

To many to put down

Proud to wear the company uniform. FANTASTIC place to work

I loved the opportunity to work in several cities and quite a few Airports. Was assisted in relocating to Cairns. I was glad to put on the uniform and get to my shift early.

Pros

Staff travel, interesting work

Cons

Covid redundancy
