A Typical Day at Work:A regular day at Qantas Freight involves diligently loading and unloading planes. The pace is quick, and the emphasis is on safety and timely handling of cargo ONLY.What I Learned: Working here has taught me the intricacies of cargo handling and the importance of ensuring that freight is treated with utmost care. It’s a constant learning experience that melds physical work with understanding the logistics behind airline operations.Management:Management at Qantas Freight is generally supportive. Many of the male managers have gone above and beyond to ensure our needs are met and that we're set up for success.Workplace Culture: The team culture at Qantas Freight is one of its standout features. Colleagues are approachable and friendly, which makes for a positive work atmosphere. The environment promotes collaboration, respect, and teamwork. The Hardest Part of the Job:Nature has its way of challenging us, especially during the rainy days. Ensuring we remain dry while efficiently managing cargo becomes an added task, but it's an integral part of the outdoor job.The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:The benefits at Qantas Freight are truly commendable. The staff travel discounts are a significant perk, allowing us to explore the world at more affordable rates. Conclusion:Qantas Freight is an exceptional place to work, underpinned by a supportive management, a friendly team, and enviable benefits. Whether you're passionate about aviation or logistics, this is a workplace where you can truly thrive.

Challenging times

Working for the iconic brand does not compensate for the uncertainty of not knowing when the next employee cut will come (very often). Salaries are below market rate.It is not a place to challenge the status quo, just do what you are told and it will be fine.Good performance is not always recognised and efforts do not often reflect what you receive. They want flexibility but there is no clear direction; it is lost somewhere in middle levels of management (who does not communicate well, it is under pressure, often not skilled for management roles and relying on trendy talk but poor delivery). Most employees are excellent colleagues, good mates, really good spirited people who wants to try their best in difficult circumstances. Career promotions are not necessarily based on merit or skills but mostly who you know, how much money you saved short term and if you are willing to work more for less.

Productive place to work, had some great people

It was a really good place to work, most people were really easy to get along with and never really had any issues with managers. Had a lot of extra hours and overtime if you were willing to do it, could actually make good money there, then we had our job outsourced.

Pros

Discount travel

Cons

Job being outsourced

Management only work for the CEO not there workers

Counters removed for Premium customers standing all shift running from front line to Marshall and sometimes in the rain with no wet weather protection and they expect you to come back the the front line looking immaculate

Pros

No pros

Cons

No room for improvement standards of work environment unhealthy

Excellent Company to work for

I worked at Qantas for over 30 years, and I would definitely Italy recommend them as a employer.Pay and conditions were good, but getting harder to maintain due to corporate greed, thus the need for good Union Membership to keep the balance. The employees are fantastic and it has a great culture and workplace enjoyment.

Pros

Great Aussie Company of the highest quaity brand

Cons

Long hours work/life balance difficult.

A cabin crew member is not a job , its a lifestyle

Becoming a flight attendant is a whole new world as everything during the initial 8 weeks training is intense, demanding & nothing like you have ever done before as mostly all you experience is so foreign & only relevent to the role. You have to pass exams twice a year & there is a very small window to get answers wrong & is not looked upon lightly by your manager if you have a major fail, you get stood down until you resit & pass a one on one training day to be able to return to work. This is also governed by CASA . You spend a lot of time away after a few years approx 200+ hours a mnth, friends stop calling to ask you to any event as you are always away, & when your home you are busy doing playing catch up before you are off again. Most family events, B'days, chrissy etc you won't be home for. In return you get to travel the world while being paid very well, benefits, staff travel , holidays are generous & most colleagues are accepting, helpful as they were once in your shoes when starting out. Its a fast paced workplace, customers can be demanding, hotels noisy so you need to manage all this. Your managers on the ground have a 3 year life span before getting replaced as they are only ticking boxes to meet their KPI's & the company could save alot of $ if they concentrated on front line staff for ideas in service, dealings with customers, must i go on as front line staff solve all complaints, problems , delays daily & deal face to face with customers & hear & deal with all the issues they experience & know how to recover most situations immediately & effectively.

Pros

Staff travel, travel while being paid, generous annual leave, ongoing training, meeting new people & going to new places, colleagues, excelkent superannuation, uniforms provided, going up to the cockpit - take-off, landing

Cons

Long hours, going to work back of the clock with time differences, missing family events, maintaining personal friendships/ relationships out of work, health, diet

Qantas is an excellent company to work for

Qantas is a brilliant company to work for, what lets Qantas down is the same as most companies, the employees who learn how to get out of work because there’s no consequences to not doing the right thing, the job your being paid to do,it’s like an optional extra on a car ,it’s your decision, will I or won’t I do the right thing and work today? Management-most managers at Qantas are to worried about their career path to deal with the hard individuals who are well versed with their rights and well documented,so they don’t deal with them or ignore the issues and hope it sorts itself out,why risk there career path dealing with someone who isn’t going to change without a fight? So yes Qantas is a brilliant company to work for, thethe staff spoil it,which is mostly the case in big companies

Pros

Staff travel, reliable pay, good conditions-

Cons

Shift work

Used to be good

Loved working as International crew when I first started in 1992. The calibre of staff and management changes dramatically since then, particularly with Joyce cost cutting everything. It is more like a budget airline now with less committed staff. The work is exhausting as you would expect but well compensated if you love travel.

Pros

Free food, travel, uniform

Cons

Jetlag, Management

Don’t be fooled

When I tell people I work for qantas , it’s always the same reply : wow what a great company to work for! It could not be further from the truth. On paper qantas paints a perfect picture but irregular hours , incompetent wages, incompetent management and faulty machinery is just the beginning. You risk your health your quality of life for almost minimum wage, not too mention the amount of responsibility placed on your shoulders. Online course after course you show that the company actually cares but doesn’t ! Your’re just a number to the company nothing more!

Pros

Working with good people

Cons

Too many to mention

Great Crew - Woeful Management

It is a such a shame that Qantas really is no longer the spirit of Australia. To management you are a number. Nothing more. The crew cannot be faulted. They are a fabulous melting pot of people who you will become extremely close with in a very short amount of time. Management however are ruining what was once a company you could be proud of. Using Covid as a reason to sack workers and rehire cheap labour hire, eroding in-flight product, ignoring eba's with no consequence, treating casual crew appallingly. Go into the role with your eyes open.

Pros

Staff travel if full time / part time, flexible roster and start times, no day is the same

Cons

Seniority based rostering, bids are not successful in some ports, trip swapping is next to impossible, long term health repercussions

Great workplace and colleagues

Qantas are a good company to work for with regards to pay and conditions. The best part of the job is the amazing staff who make the airline what it is. You need to be prepared to work at any hour of the day with changes to your roster 7 days out and also the need to do overtime on the day if the operation requires. This is voluntary but kind of expected if there is nobody else to do it.

Pros

Free uniform, dry cleaning, travel benefits

Cons

Shift work, hard with work / life balance

Selfish management leading to no team culture

To obsessed with bonuses in top management at the detriment of poor decisions. No team culture too individualistic. Poor Human resources skills. Revolving management with no flight experience leading to very little empathy

High achievers - stay away

Most people are here for the perks - not for enriching their skills. Work is done primarlily in silos with a "Union" style attitude. There is no sense of urgency because no-one cares. Hippies that enjoy their stay suck up to senior management to get promoted - and it works. This is so they get a higher staff-travel onboarding priority. They want that business/first class upgrade before the hard working colleague who works around the clock doing somebody else' work - and their own.A typical day at work involves communicating with teams that push every task to their Sprint planning backlog. They claim to be too busy. Even when they get around to the task, it is poorly executed. Plagued by errors and lack of attention to detail. So, simple onboarding tasks that can take a couple of minutes to complete, end up taking a week - at least. This includes continually having to follow up with the respective team and assigned resource.Forget about streamlined processes. They don't exist. Senior management turn up to meetings and talk. Yes, talk. No agenda. No action items. I'll sum up by saying that, if you have "fire in your belly", have a desire to progress by always maintaining adherence to a strong work ethic, qantas is not who you should aim to work for.

Pros

staff travel

Cons

Stale work culture. Success depends on what comes out of your mouth - not your accomplishments

Some good people and others simply dog eat dog

Do your job and don’t let the boss huggers beat you. University graduates and the beginning of the entitled generation made the office sometimes uncomfortable as they really have no idea fresh out of school.

Excellent all the way

The company is very proficient every thing is organized and well prepared in advance scheduling and informing is well presented in advance and any change in the work criteria is addressed immediately and avoided if possible so that little interruptions can happen. Over all the system is well organized as said before.

Pros

All needs provided from uniforms to manuals and tools

Cons

No cons if you are a professional worker and love what you do

It was fair when I was there ..so much has changed

When i first joined Qantas I took up a casual position and worked long hours. In a few years they made me permanent. The Money was excellent, loved my Job and did heaps of overtime. I worked in various departments. My favourite was preparing Special Meals for International flights. Later I became Crew Leader. Very competitive. I worked with 60 different Nationalities. I treated it like my second home and made every minute enjoyable. I took a voluntary redundancy package in July 2016 To help care for my grand daughter.

Pros

Free meals in their canteen

Cons

Long hours

It was ok.

I started working along with 2 other students and we were basically just thrown wherever as we weren’t put in the roster and timetables straight away. There was multiple occasions where the allocation officers would put us on jobs we didn’t know how to do because they didn’t train us, there was a huge disconnect between my traineeship company and Qantas as there were several ongoing problems that were never solved such as getting appropriate uniform, we never received jumpers even during the winter time. Despite all the issues I encountered while working there I enjoyed the job itself, it’s a good job for someone who is hands-on and there was always a lot of work considering aviation runs 365 days a year

Pros

Fun job, good co-workers, flexible

Cons

Not much communication, hours differ, poor traineeship management

great people and environment

Well paid, responsible job, good career prospects pre COVID of course. The people you work with make the job. You are given and expect to give support to others, a selfish person wouldn't last in this career. The hours of work can be demanding especially nightshift which is now proven to reduce life expectancy.

Pros

responsibly

Cons

hours

Absolutely fabulous place to work. Other team members are inclusive and driven to succeed.

Qantas is an amazing place to work. The variety of destinations and customers makes for an enjoyable experience. Truely fortunate to be working for an iconic business.

Friendly and professional team/family

The culture at Qantas is unlike any other work place. The people are so family orientated and nothing is a problem if you had a question to ask and this is in any department. Qantas people value their positions wherever they work and take pride in their jobs and it shows.

Pros

Discount flights

Cons

Standby
