Please think twice before entering this organisation.

The company in personal lines is in crisis. Constant computer issues, they ask for your suggestions you make, but it goes in one ear and out the other. I did not enjoy the management team and the politics that went on. Discrimination, disrespect, and favoritism play a major part. although they are usually careful to not do it openly. Management, Culture, Work-life balance in terms of mental health and stress caused for this toxic environment.

Pros

Pay not too bad

Cons

Favouritism and bullying plays a major part.

Not as advertised

Joined a month ago and looking desperately to leave. There is intimidation and almost threats form the Phillipines shared service. They day they are onboard about a project but they sabotage it. This is because there is no leadership getting teams aligned to a strategy. Wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy.

Pros

Money paid on time- but that’s through the recruiter

Cons

Management, Culture, Work- life balance in terms of mental health and stress caused for this toxic environment

People/Work culture need to improve

I didn't enjoy working here although I was here for very short period of time. The senior management or board members lack the potential to make effective plans, also in decision making and showing commitment. Teams are not collaborative and help one another when needed. It does encourage work life balance though.

Austral Mercantile

The interview process was clear and efficient. The management made quick and fair offers for the role. The role was explained and training was comprehensive. I would recommend joining this company to anyone who wants a team that cares.

Pros

Great Pay, Quick responses

Cons

work hours are not flexible

Fun and collaborative workplace

A fun workplace where people genuinely care about the work they do and the people around them. A collaborative culture which supports development, flexible working arrangements and always looking for ways to build the culture and support staff. It is a fast paced environment with challenging work but the people make it rewarding and a pleasure to come to work each day.

Pros

Collaborative, fun culture. Located close to the station

Cons

Fast based environment and can be challenging work

Very productive and fun place to work at

A typical day at work would be dealing with numerous customers and their requirements. Enjoyed training sessions that evolved around our day to day. The most enjoyable part was working for a team that cares for each other even when times are tough with the job.

Not for everyone

The role details at the interview and title was very different to what the role turned out to be. Management is more focused on discussing their lastest shopping parcels than helping out with the backlog of work load. Management tried to act more like your friend than your boss, wanting to know all about your personal life only for them to discuss your details in front of everyone to hear and with higher management.

Great organisation to start a career

My experience at QBE was a highly rewarding one. Over the course of a year and 5 months, I have learned many valuable lessons from an extensive number of managers and colleagues while also establishing a wide network of connections across Australia. I will always look back at my time at QBE with gratitude.

Pros

Excellent team culture, Large network of insurance experts, Multiple employee benefits (e.g. Healthcare, Free Lunches, Frequent Networking and Social Events)

Productive and Modern Environment

Productive and advanced working environment however the culture is still out of date, few transformational programs and initiatives that is modernising the culture, enhancing customer experience, and improving business.

Pros

Modern and well paid

Cons

Lack of management focus (reactive)

Top heavy, unstable

Executive revolving door, lack of commitment of senior management.Middle to senior management are mostly self serving with no accountability. More projects than number of people working on projects. Good things are relating to work life balance and customer focus.

Great place to work if you are driven by ambition and money

Checking diaries, responding to emails and telephone calls as well settling claims. You learn to read people and negotiate not just the claims but also persuade other parties to contribute to settlements they originally refused to contribute to. Management were ready to listen if you had good strategies and reasons for early or larger/smaller settlements. Workplace culture mainly catered to the younger demographic, morning teas, cakes or lunches but was great when volunteering for charities. Dealing with third party lawyers that were greedy and the procedural red tape. Settling claims fairly and with savings.

Pros

Satisfaction of fair settlements to claimants and saving for the company

Cons

Long hours, high pressure deadlines with big workloads and low staff levels

Good job but too much emphasis placed on minor aspects

QBE was a very good company to work for but in the later years senior management came in from the statutory classes and tried to apply their knowledge across into general liability. A number of legally qualified but inexperienced solicitors were employed in the lower echelon management roles but they had no experience in insurance litigation or their experience was very limited Prior to this staff of my rank had control of all functions of the claims. As an example I had a standard authority of $1M which was increased on a needs basis. There was a good rapport between senior management, claims officers and service providors.

Pros

Good staff and Service providors

Cons

Inexperienced lower echelon management

Job security

My day used to be fairly busy managing an operation environment. To stay calm and collected while managing a critical situation has been a steep learning curve.

QBE Insurance

It is not appropriate to provide feedback at this time as this is completely without any measurable validity and is highly subjective to so provide a review in this environment without a sense of balance is inappropriate.
