in club and out club
Customer Service Officer (Former Employee) - Brisbane - 3 August 2023
if in the club you're good, if not in the club not so good, meant to be based on merit but not really. need to fix culture to be more inclusive and also remove middle management that don't add value

Registered Midwife (Former Employee) - Brisbane - Australia - 18 July 2023
Good opportunities for experience, friendly colleagues. But management is not very kind, doesn't follow up after adverse situations, and can be harsh. Often felt like a number in a big hospital.

Middle management burrowed in like tics. Otherwise okay.
Business Analyst (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 3 July 2023
I worked for 8 years mostly in payroll/IT. My experience was pre-covid so it might be different now. It was always a demanding environment and occasionally unpleasant. Having to sit at a desk for 8 hours a day ironically didn't have a positive effect on my health. I found it had a passive aggressive way of combating union's efforts to ensure job security by increasing natural attrition in areas they wanted to reduce staff. The exception was middle management which was often 20 year veterans who clung to there positions for dear life. It would suit some people. Pay and responsibilities improve as you go up the ladder but if you're not enjoying the AO stream then I'd highly recommend doing something else sooner rather than later especially with the advent of AI.
Pros
Stable employment
Cons
stifled environment

Toxic employer
Consultant (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 19 May 2023
Whether you are clinical, admin, or support you will be treated like a paper clip. You will constantly be bombarded with emails about the brilliant corporate culture but you will be treated like a serf. Pay office will mess up your pay and leave. You will work overtime that you won’t be allowed to claim. If you ever step out of line you will be “performance managed “ until you quit.

Queensland childrens hospital- stable position but typical competitive nurses
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 30 August 2022
Queensland Health is a massive organisation so obviously I can only speak for the department I worked in. To begin with I was an in home support worker and I also worked in the operating theatre setting up for operations. I didn't have too much interaction with the staff as I wasn't a registered nurse. The people I did talk to at Queensland Children's Hospital were really friendly but you soon got to know the less friendly areas... (namely the ER).
Pros
Good pay- job stability
Cons
Sick children

Terrible culture of bullying
Nurse (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 2 November 2021
It's like tall poppy syndrome became a standard operating policy. The second you start your job at QLD health you'd better be ready to be completely on your own surrounded by miserable patients and staff that will do anything they can to ruin your career in healthcare. You might last a while if you keep to yourself and just try do your job but even that won't protect you for long.
Pros
Some positive experiences
Cons
Long hours. Bullying. Toxic workplace. No permanant position. Bad management.

Competitive
Operational Support Officer (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 28 June 2021
I have been seeking permanency for 5 years with no luck. I find that the high ups make reckless decisions for clinics and wards with regard to process and staff changes but have no idea what happens on the ground. I have also seen many line managers let go for backing themselves and team in their role, mostly replaced with a close contact of the in charge who follow orders and don’t question changes. Over all a nepotistic and (due to the rarely available permanent jobs) catty, competative work environment.
Pros
Salary
Cons
Instability

Bullies
Administration Officer (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 24 August 2020
QLD Health has a Bullying culture. If a manager does not like you, they will gaslight, make up stories and cause you to suffer emotional distress and enjoy watching that turn to anxiety. The Minister for Health and our upper Government officials only listen to upper management the people being bullied are not even a thought to them. They protect, encourage the workplace psychopaths
Pros
wages, super holiday and benefits great
Cons
The Culture is one of bullying

enjoyed working with QLD Health
Administrative Officer (A03) (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 20 June 2020
I work at the QEII hospital Emergency Department as an Admin Officer. It is a very busy environment but I very much enjoy the fast paces nature of the department. I have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team. The hardest part of the job is doing the shift work but this again at times works a benefit for me. I really the company of my colleagues. The job requires being active and up to date.
Pros
Closer to home and free parking

Friendly Environment
Administration Officer (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 9 March 2020
I worked here for two weeks in December (2018) and two weeks in January (2019), in the Workforce and Strategy Branch. The first week the branch was relocating to a different level, so I and my peer (another student) helped package the staff's belongings. The team was quite apologetic about not being able to give us work due to them relocating. But we had fun, as in real-life situations, sometimes you are faced with relocating. We mainly read articles, summarised points and so forth. It was interesting seeing some of the policies and strategies that they had created. It was overall a great learning experience with friendly staff.
Pros
Lot's of spare time
Cons
Not having any work sometimes

A normal hospital
Revenue Officer (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 25 February 2020
On contract for many years - stressful. Sometimes notification of renewal was only given the day before. Management leaves a lot to be desired. There is a 'club' mentality.

Easy Job Poor management
Transport Officer (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 28 January 2020
While the work is easy to learn there are elements of the job that need attention. New manager, Over weighted Trolleys, truck maintenance, poor docks and no staff parking unless you pay a small fortune to park in the hospital car park. While the majority of people were great to work with management likes to abuse their role and authority so make sure if you have any issues "keep them to yourself" cause the result will end up that your contract wont be resigned placing you back on the casual pool and told never to be offered any work. There statement"At Health Support Queensland (HSQ), you will be part of an organisation who helps care for Queenslanders." Definitely not true.

Good job but hard to get a permanent position
Senior storeman (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 20 January 2020
Qeensland Health seems to be heading for contract only staff that have no guarantee of getting permanent positions when you are in a support role to the hospitals
Pros
Stable work load
Cons
Can be made redundant anytime as contracts aren't renewed

Supportive team with high workloads acheived
Online Publisher (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 21 November 2019
I had to upload medical guidelines, procedures and policies onto their intranet site for use by Queensland Health staff. Team was super supportive at work, and provided the opportunity to start early to increase my work-life balance. I would recommend working here to anyone.
