Supportive environment

Working as a registered nurse can be tough at times as expected however my colleagues are all very supportive. The pay should be higher and we should get more benefits

Terrible place to work

Undervalued, unappreciated and underpaid. Bullying management and impossible to get annual leave. Do not recommend this place to anyone. It is soul destroying and will overtake your life, shift work is relentless and day after day is a cycle of stress out on staff my managers. Patient acuity is getting worse and worse while more and more is expected by nurses.

Pros

None

QLD Health provides so many options for MH nursing

Great management has been so bombed with stress from COVID … and we have all struggled with working such extensive hours. Positively supporting permanent nursing staff has continued regardless of managements own struggles .. such as retirements & skill mix.

Pros

Extensive nursing career options

Cons

IT options & selective training times for new graduates

Some areas great others like a vipers pit

Some areas well supported and a great place to work, (Pain Clinic. Professional Development); others like working in a viper pit (recovery unit, they old age eat the young or debilitate them is still entrenched.)

Overall I had a very fair experience with Qld Health.

I have worked for Qld Health for the past 16 years. It has provided me an excellent working condition, good teamwork and also have shown flexibility when needed.

Found working as a registered nurse in Northern Queensland s truly rewarding experience.

Did my graduate program at Queensland Health. Very good experience, well supported and worked in interesting and acute areas. Always given constructive feedback, well supported, trusted and given responsibility within competence level.

The worst experience of my life wish I never worked there

I am a very experienced nurse but unfortunately this doesn’t matter at this hospital because it’s nit what you know but who you know. Nepotisum is rife friends get jobs through friends. Interviews are given just so they are seen to be doing all the right things but the jobs are given to their friend with no experience. As for the bullying it’s out of control. I worked on four wards over ten years and every ward it was really bad. Most of the bullies are the nums or cn s And most of my colleagues are on mental health programmes s antidepressants nw because of this. I was bullied by a num for theee years no one would listen and hierarchy just thought I was a trouble maker because I reported it . My life necame worse after that she bullied me more. I started work on a different ward to get away from it little did iknow my old num had contacted her and told her lies so she then bullied me to. I reported all of this but then I was asked to leave because I was a trouble maker. My life went downhill rapidly . I know there are a lot of us I attend a support group which is full of bullied nurses from TTH . I wouldn’t recommend working there at all.

It was alright. I didn't find management particularly helpful when I had issues.

I was working casual and had several short contracts in different areas. I I found management could be tricky and at times obstructive and rude. Mostly I enjoyed working there. There was a problem with processing my application and it took about 6 months after acceptance of my application before I actually started working there.

Pros

Variety in my work with doing different contracts.

Cons

No stability or regular income in working casual.

Fast paced environment. Very secure job with plenty of overtime available.

A typical work day was always very busy with lots going on. Patient turn over was huge and you had to be on your toes to keep up with the huge workload. There was a huge multidisciplinary team to work with and access to lots of resources. Excellent opportunity to develope nursing skills. Generally your typical workplace culture with nice and difficult people to deal with. The shift work and pace where the hardest part of the experience and abuse form patients was constant. The pay was great and the benefits from working with Queensland health were numerous.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Lots of work available.

Cons

Short staffed often, abusvie patients and sometimes management.

Money is good, Bullying is at the top to the bottom

You enjoy the pay but you hate going to work because people will make you miserable and are bullies! your heart goes at 150bpm thinking someone will pick on you. I know someone who was bullied so badly, they continue to take antidrepressants a few years later. The union was unhelpful during the hard times too. Management is made up of bullies in some of the wards so no one to go to because they are all in a click. I am glad to know something is being done about it for future young nurses

Pros

Pay

Cons

Bullies and no one to turn to

Varied as many places and roles to work within

A wonderful company that has ample opportunities for all. Highly recommended for those who wish to help our community with its ongoing daily health requirements.

Pros

Great team ethos

Cons

None that I can think of.

supportive workplace

The staffs at TBH are supportive and friendly. However the shift hours are either staring too early at 6am or finishing too late at 11pm. That not fit my life balance well at this moment.

Pros

good support

Cons

shift work

poor management

Too much of a culture driven who is who. Short staffing a constant issue. Very little support given to staff who are struggling with the stress of the job. Casual position.

Pros

Being the advocate for the clients

Cons

being intimidated by staff.

productive day filled with all aspects of patient care and assessment

-Enjoyable busy Hospital ward with a diverse range of patients ranging from acutely ill to long term medically stable. -Ive learned the importance of patient assessment, following infection control procedures, patient care planning, evaluating patient care, and reflecting on care and assessments, the triage of patient complaints and conditions, effective time management skills around the workplace, the importance patient safety, education for patients regarding their medications and medication safety, the assessment and care of acute and chronic wounds, administering all types of injections including immunisations, the care of the cardiac patient, the care of the unconcious patient, the care of the CVA patient and overall care of the medical patient including diabetes management and managing dementia and treating infections in acutely ill patients. -There is a supportive work enviroment and training courses are available at your discretion. - The hardest part of the job is reflecting on the death of a patient, expected or not - Most enjoyable part is caring for my patients, seeing improvement in conditions and managing their illness, giving them quality of life, keeping them comfortable and assisting them to work towards discharge when they are safe and supported to go home.

Supportive

I worked for QHealth permanently for 16 years and now work casually for them. They have supported my change of life needs and I enjoy the variety afforded by casual work.
