Generally a good and pleasant place to work.

Generally a good and pleasant place to work. Townsville is a teaching hospital so staff skill levels vary a lot. The introduction of iEMR (the digital medical record system) is terrible from a nursing perspective as it is cumbersome and glitchy, and has massively increased time not spent with patients and instead typing into computers. Doctors seem to like it as they no longer have to chase patient charts all the time. Contrary to QH public statements it has not increased pt safety, and is viewed by a majority of staff as tedious and time consuming.

Pros

good pay and conditions, job security.

Cons

iEMR. also if you have a "difficult" boss/NUM all complaints will be ignored.

Mediocre Management

Poor leadership at the top, Teflon coated management, management culture is one of intimidation, inconsistency with enforcing discipline. Escalating bad toxic behaviour goes nowhere. Most enjoyable part of the job is working with some very professional health professionals who are passionate, caring and look after each other.

Pros

Passionate health professionals

Cons

Poor leadership, don't manage toxicity and bullying

Productive, Job Satisfaction

Handover from one shift to the next . Writing information of health status of residents and new medical treatment. Organize escorts to take residents to different appointments or shopping. Continue with all aspect of day living and wound treatment plus medications. Sometimes help with doctors rounds and sending medications summary to Chemist. I like to organize my day by prioritizing tasks by their importance follow by all the paper work involved. Keep medication trolley clean, stocked up for the next team. All machines clean and available to be used in an emergency. Workplace culture; Too much power given to the wrong people. The hardest part of the job was death. To loose someone that I had a great friendship after many year of caring for. The most enjoyable part of my job is to make a difference in people's lives.

Pros

8 hours with lunch paid

Cons

only tea and coffee provided

Usless management

Nepotistic and short sighted management in engineering Poor pay for the effort. no future planning and no real maintenance being done. They like an outsourced model so continually push that on the permanent employees

Pros

2 days off a month

Cons

Management

Fun working environment

Most enjoyable part of the job was the people that I worked with. A typical day at work was busy with everyday being a different type of teeth fixing. The hardest part of the job was seeing blood and needles.

If you care about what you do this is the place for you. I could not have dreamed of a better place to work. Very sad to leave. Great place for advancement.

Experience and exposure

Working for QHealth has provided me the fundamental building blocks needed for my future endeavors. From critical and critical thinking, time management, patient care and communication (interpersonal and interprofessional). Management barely recognise the work of the professionals, more concern is focused on financial dynamics. The workplace culture is varied throughout the hospital. The hardest part of my job proved to be challenging behaviours, not just from the patient but coworkers. Needless to say, my conflict resolution skills have been enhanced immensely. The most enjoyable part of my job, most definitely advocating for patients: being a voice for others; emotional gratitude when patients express being thankful for my service delivery; standing up for patients rights and ensuring safe current evidence based practices are utilised to deliver safe quality healthcare.

Pros

Acquired knowledge and pay rate

Cons

lack of support from management

Awesome place to work

I found working for Queensland Health so enjoyable the staff fellow workmates and management such a pleasure to work with and so helpful. In my short time there i learnt so much worked in most departments and gained so much from theater,ICU, the wards,,A &E ups-killing and gaining my cert 111 age care (CHC30208) To me the hardest part of the job was having to leave and come back to NZ . And the best was putting a smile on patients and staff faces.

Pros

excellent super, meals, uniforms

Cons

car parking, and flat batteries on siegways

productive and busy workplace

On a Porterage shift I would be called to help transfer patients from their beds to have test carried out or have a Xray, to help turn patients in their beds. On a Environmental shift I would be allocated a specific area ie: ward or public area, that needed to be cleaned ie: empty bins, clean floors

Pros

Safe work environment and supportive colleagues

Cons

Being on call as a casual, unable to plan ahead
