3 questions about working at Ramsay
Usual nursing roster. You’ll get up to 9 days straight with at least 2-3 late early included in the 9. Grads are especially exploited this way and many break down and leave. Several I know of ended up on medication. This company will chew you up, spit you out, rinse, repeat. The place literally runs on nurses not taking breaks and staying back to finish handovers and met calls. You never get paid for not taking breaks or staying back. 2 nurses to 13-14 patients in private aged care rehab. 2:10-11 in most public wards. Often one nurse will be started at 3pm instead of 2pm for Afternoon shift, which leaves 1:13 for an hour. Then that nurse has to hand over to the 3pm one, wasting more time so that you both run the whole shift without a break. You will run your entire shift most times without a break or a toilet break in most wards. It gets worse every year. Most good nurses have left or want to. Everyone is burnt out to some degree. It’s just awful.
Answered 16 September 2020Abysmal, staff morale is at an all time low since cutbacks to rescue the share price on the stock market. All of the words in “The Ramsay Way” are just lip service these days. Old Mr Ramsay would be turning in his grave. HR are impotent against bullying and nepotism. It’s a toxic culture that will burn you out and make you question nursing altogether. Majority of management are out of touch with the reality on the wards. People are leaving in all the time and a lot of problems filling shifts. Poor staff retention. You feel that you are replaceable and chewed up then spat out. You feel conned and exploited.
