productive and fun

Indeed Featured review

productive and fun; however, there are too much deadlines you have to deal with and sometimes you can feel burn out. The learning environment is good, all lecturers and friends are friendly and always support me when I am in need

Good staff, destructive corporate management direction

Most professional and academic staff are good to deal with, they just want to teach, help students and achieve their own research goals.Upper management and executive are becoming more and more removed from the front line reality of the University.I'd really like to know how public Universities in general can have opaque executive pay and bonus incentives. Frontline staffing and budget cuts combined with massively increased administration is making everyone elses job much harder.

average

Only did a short period of time, co-workers are mainly student, people treate each other nicely. Overall it's a company to work for. But the system might need to be changed

Amazing workplace

Amazing workplace where each department is given a lot of autonomy. Management and people have been great too. Pay is really good as well. Overall, a great place to work!!

Stable work though staff culture was low

RMIT offers opportunities to find steady employment with good pay and conditions. However the specific team I worked for lacked cohesion and team morale was low. Very hierarchical in their team dynamics.

Reasonable opportunities but Toxic Leadership

I worked at RMIT for almost 10 years. In the end I was on contract for too long and was not supported through a difficult period from management. The organisation needs more awareness around mental health and menopause at work.

Friendly and productive workplace

Friendly and positive work environment. Good management. Training is very thorough and prepares you well for the job. Lot's of flexibility around hours with the option to work from home or on site. Overall a good experience.

Fun

Everyone is friendly and the work environment is very safe and comfortable. The team is very helpful and everyone is willing to support one another. Each volunteer gets a turn for breaks, they provided the food and drinks (dietary requirements options available). Overall a very pleasant experience.

Terrible management with rampant nepotism

Certain managers think they rule your life and do everything to make you feel miserable. No understanding and no support, just demands and unrealistic expectations. My previous manager at RMIT was fantastic but she left, so I got stuck with horrible management when I switched to a different department. Full of self-importance and attacks technically skilled people because of their lack of understanding.

Pros

Location, hours, lenient on remote working

Cons

Horrible horrible management

Nice people

Everyone is very helpful there. I always able to find the answer for my question from my workmate or manager. Most of the people enjoyed their work and they are all highly skilled and experience.

Fun but a lot of re-work and not getting much done

Too much work in convincing rather than doing. Some great people, some good ideas, some really exciting opportunities just takes a lot of time to see things come to life.

Good people held back by unnecessary bureaucracy and too comfortable senior leadership that refuses to change.

I learned a lot at RMIT, didn't realise how much until I left. Great team and sometimes good work hampered by really highly governed and unnecessary processes, poor systems and poor senior leadership.Hours were like big 4 consultancy hours, without the prestige. Be ready to be given something at 4pm one day to be completed by 11am the next day because a DVC wants it. Not because it's actually business critical but because the place is so full of people that enjoy the power, control and authority. It's so totally under resourced that being good at your job means doing the work of 2 people, sometimes more. There are a few wonderful gems who care about people and their work life balance but unfortunately it isn't the executive team. If you can stick it out for a few years to get on your resume you'll be fine.

Pros

Good project work Lots of things that need improvement Some very smart people to learn from

Cons

Terrible senior leadership Long long hours

Productive and fun working place. Staff are free to dress casually to suit their comfort. Excellent organizational behavior.

I enjoyed my time working at RMIT university. The managers were helpful in making me welcome. I made a lot of friends. Work life balance was the organizational culture. Tasks were clearly explained by my managers whenever needed. Overall, I will return to RMIT if given another opportunity. Also, I will recommend anyone to work at this organization because its a stepping stone to higher career prospects.

Pros

Sick leave, annual leave, long holiday during Christmas

Cons

Salary was not competitive then. Not sure the current situation.

Productive and reasonable

Excellent and corporative, I learned teamwork environment and diversity at workplace and the most enjoyable part of the job was cooperative and flexible

Pros

Accessiable and nearest places' for lunche

Cons

Sometimes long hours

Toxic environment where colleagues (not really) are ready to walk over another for self advancement.

The summary says it all. Although I found some really genuine people there, most left for the same reasons or had been there so long they were waiting for retirement. .

Pros

Location

Cons

Toxic environment

A well thought of organisation but a draconian work load model

There are some very good things about working at RMIT. The student population is great to work with. Management structure is large with lots of middle managers so it is difficult to get a decision. You really need to know who to go to and you can get conflicting responses or no response at all. The teaching work load for an academic is huge and does not appear to be getting any better. They have lots of systems that do not communicate well with each other. Lots of change occurs impacting on work load as well and lots of reporting.

Pros

The city campus is very vibrant

Cons

Be prepared to work long hours and on weekends
