The Navy - protecting Australia

Today's modern Navy defends our home, our way of life and our national interests. Thousands of men and women work together to protect our coastline, our natural resources, our economy and our shipping lanes. The Navy consists of more than 15,000 people and is growing to meet future needs with new advanced ships, submarines and helicopters coming into service over the next decade. The Navy is one of the largest and most sophisticated naval forces in the Pacific region, with a significant presence in the Indian Ocean and worldwide operations in support of military campaigns and peacekeeping missions. Navy’s fleet is made up of a combination of more than 50 ships and submarines, as well as squadrons of advanced military helicopters. Some of the most beautiful locations in Australia are home to Navy bases including sites at Potts Point and Watsons Bay in Sydney, Rockingham in WA and Jervis Bay on NSW’s south coast just to name a few.
