Not too bad, but too rushed

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Some visits felt very rushed, also the time slots with clients not being an exact time was frustrating for everyone. Some times was contacted by managers who had never met me to tell me how to do my job.

Worked at this company for nearly seven years, and in the end was treated very badly

Working in the community seeing lovely clients. At times very pressured with a large work load. Management wasn't always the best. Use to catch up with some of the other nurses in our lunch break. Unfortunately the culture became toxic. Hardest part of the job was seeing my lovely clients, move to other nursing companies for their care due to company changes. Most enjoyable, being able to stay friends, with my nursing colleagues after we lost our jobs. Now working for another company all together.

Pros

Some friendly nursing colleagues.

Cons

Became toxic

Room for growth

I felt this institution needs some room for growth. Cons: The bosses there need to embrace, warm up to pregnant employees. Pros: plenty of learning opportunities and work, which is good.

Management are unprofessional and lack empathy

When I started at the organisation it had a friendly and even fun environment to work in but over time and with new management and restructuring the organisation has lost its way with those 'higher up' more concerned in boosting academic egos by publishing papers and using ridiculous corporate doublespeak than actually helping clients. While research is an important facet of health and innovation, the organisation is wasting money and time on projects that will not directly benefit clients. It has strayed from its purpose as a not for profit.

Pros

Hybrid work

Cons

Terrible management and uncaring attitudes to employees

What is the best part of working at the company? The flexibility of working hours and the quality of ongoing support. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Finishing a service in its alotted time and travelling between clients but it is something you become accustomed to.What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Support staff are excellent here in Melbourne. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Our roster is clearly set out on the provided telephone. Depending upon the number of clients, the day can be hectic but it is also rewarding.

Very soul destroying

Its a friends or family promote only culture, like previous reviews mentioned. If you are related to someone whom is working there, you can bypass interview and get a job easily , or even promoted based on your connections . The call center is filled with incompetent team leaders and internal politics, high staff turn over due to the toxic culture and the work itself, feed backs are a one way street. The Leaders are good at giving you feed back, but when we give them feed back, and they dont like what you say. They start finding ways to make your life difficult and eventually you want to leave.

Pros

free parking...

Cons

constant process changes, constant metric changes, work politics, incompetent leaders

A job that gives purpose to life

I'm new with Silverchain, there are some teething problems with learning the phone programs and getting the apps going. But so far, so good. Silverchain pays at a higher rate per hour compared to other providers as well. There is a lot of driving, so you will need a car and a license. It's wonderful making a difference in people's lives. You can also access more learning via the silverchain Intranet learning centre to advance your skills

Pros

Lots of work

Cons

Phone apps and travelling

Great company, toxic departments and poor management and no accountability

There is a toxic friend culture between management in the package team who promise promotion and employment to friends and family without experience or relevant knowledge. They allow ‘benefits’ to certain team members and deny others. Management turns a blind eye to bullying and allows workers to shop for several hours during their ‘work hours’, yet expect others to work through their breaks. If you speak up against fair work practices, you are not considered for promotion even if you put in the work.Clients are not always provided with choice and control if they have memory loss, even though dignity of risk should be considered, as some employees are not appropriately suited to the role. There is no consideration for loyalty or years worked for an organisation with management forgetting to celebrate milestone celebrations for certain employees. There are inappropriate relationships between management and workers and no set professional boundaries. They make you feel guilty for taking mental health leave and then decline annual leave due to talk this time off. Other areas of the organisation should step in to clean up this toxic culture before it infiltrates other areas and tarnishes the brand.

Pros

Salary sacrifice, supporting clients

Cons

Bullying between workers, management does not take action. Toxic management, unfair treatment if not friends with management, unprofessional work practices

Terrible company, ripping vulnerable people every second.

Poor management . Money hungry vultures. Treats care staff very poorly. Uses them to do everything to make money. Eg. Disability care, Bowel care/ stimulation. Thats a nurses job. Never ever learned that for aged care. Thats all they care about now. Themselves and money. Very bad communication with clients, staff and even management to each other. Different answer from each supervisor/ manager to clients and staff. Pathetic company

Cons

Unorganized useless management maddington

Friendly team

Very friendly team but a large organisation. Team lead was very warm and welcoming, are happy to help you out with what you need. There is a very high turnover of staff.

Extremely supportive management who understood personal needs and tried their best to cater to them.

Really great team leaders and management who went above and beyond to ensure you were looked after as an employee. Workload was tough at times due to lack of nurses. Supportive team members who were always willing to pick up a client or 2 of yours if you were running late. Ongoing training and education. Community nursing is not for everyone but I enjoyed my time with silver chain and I learnt a lot along the way.

Pros

Autonomy, able to manage your own work day, company car & phone & tablet, flexible working arrangements, able to finish off patient discharges at home and still get paid for it.

Cons

Some suburbs had heavier client loads than others, and working on your own has its’ down sides

hard physical and emotional hard at times. But the best career you can have if you want to make a positive difference each day.

I have not worked for silver chain for about 9 years .I had to retire due to bad health.Working with this company, was a dream although you worked alone back up was always a phone call But it is not all rose.Losing clients is part of the jobclients who are soiled and unable to clean themselves.Roses are,Sitting listening to their lives when doing respite is a privilege. As was working for this company.

Pros

On going training. Monthly team meeting.

Cons

Could be two up more heavy cleaning jobs in one day, especially when it was over 35 degrees

Flexible and interesting

Working as a home help i have found the hours are enough to be worthwhile and pay is quite fair, the hours are flexible, the clients are interesting and happy for your help.

Pros

Flexibility and independence

Cons

Some housing environments are undesirable

Stay away

Very stressful, company not understanding, only care about money, loved working with clients just not dealing with the management.Very happy to move on

Executives constantly bickering, trying to one up each other, filters down to all managers

Client records on paper, system is antiquated, (it's 20 years old) and Senior management never listened to provider needs. They have zero hands on experience and constantly restructure, across all areas, Health, Social, Corporate and IT, thinking that will solve the problem. A huge number of excellent staff have left because of this. Now a new corporate logo, expensive consultants changes nothing.

Pros

Caring for Clients

Cons

No Overtime/TOIL/

9 year work history with this company

Worked for this company for 9 years. Worked very hard. My colleagues and I were not paid for teabreak and meal allowances for my whole work history with this company. Had to question this with HR for two years before eventually being back paid this. My colleagues and I worked in a small unit and were not paid for cancelled visits although the social side careaides were paid for this and we work under same contract. When raised this with CEO and head of people and culture, completely avoided responding to any issues. Would not trust this company to being the right thing by its people, as we were financially disadvantaged in every area possible.

Cons

Under paid, Do not actually answer your questions when raised, Expected to work long and hard and get ripped off.
