Amazing place for volunteer work!

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Vinnies truly helped me find my first job through my six months volunteering there. I learnt lots of important skills that set me up for the job I currently have and the managers were glorious.

Pros

Free food for volunteers, very relaxed enviroment

Very busy and fast paced, which helps the day go quicker

I really enjoyed doing work for the dole been a volunteer at St Vincent De Paul’s Greystanes. When I first started I was really unsure because I had no idea of the way the store ran. After the first week and a half I actually thought that it was really busy and fast paced which helps the day go so much quicker

Pros

Heaps of new stock, Heaps of donations to sort out, The staff and other volunteer worker’s that had been there for a while, helped to make us feel comfortable and always kept us busy which was really awesome

Cons

Long hours Really busy and forget to have a morning break

Management can be extremely intimidating and patronising

Most employees are very good and fair, some managers of a very high opinion of themselves and lose the vision of assisting the vulnerable whilst squashing on others to make advancement in their careers. Great organisation to work for if you are able to make your own decisions, do not have thin skin, want versatility and variety in all aspects of this industry

Pros

Job satisfaction

Cons

Specific female managers

I love working at St Vinnies its a volunteer position. It's rewarding and uplifting, alot of life lessons and skills to learn

You work the hours of your choice and what days. Lots to learn never a dull moment. Managers and workers great to work with. There's no hard part about working there and the most enjoyable part is helping people

Pros

Meeting and helping people.

Disappointing

Apart from too heavy a workload, this NFP has a warped view of staff complaints - things started well and went downhill after 3 years or so. Heaviest workload I’ve ever had, with new tasks being allocated to me when I was already swamped. Also, most of the nice people ended up leaving.

Pros

Days off are accepted well.

Cons

Heaviest workload I’ve ever had.

not the greatest

too many chiefs not enough workers, too many promises not delivered on a daily basis, more interested in making money than servicing customers wrong direction

Pros

nil

Cons

long days

Can be tedious and repetitive

There’s no job security here, it lacks incentives, there’s no paid positions available for those that don’t have a business certificate, allowance for managers is paid to travel to and from work place,

Pros

Morning and afternoon teas provided

Cons

They require 4 hours per day

Professional and caring

I found the organisation was well run, caring and were quick to respond to any concerns raised by management or staff. St Vincent de Paul, for me, was a great place to work. I met some incredible people who went over and above to assist others in a positive way.

Pros

Offered a sense of autonomy

Cons

Set role, little to no opportunity for advancement.

Very nicely presented for an opportunity shop. High quality items available so the stock is above the average.

The environment is very nice for an opportunity shops. The grounds and the premises are above average. The people are nice and their very expedient on the response for opportunity.

Pros

Free tea and coffee, brilliant discounts

Awesome workplace

I am thankful for the opportunity. It was good to have a volunteer job to go to, the paid employees were a pleasure to work with. I shop at Vinnie's at times and will do so when I am able to. Volunteering is recommended. The manager made the place good to work at. Initally I worked two days a week, which kept me busy. It is always good to be doing something rather than spending time on the couch.

Pros

Free tea and coffee

Cons

Standing up for hours

Fun, and mostly easy going place to work.

I have done a couple of stints at St Vincent De Paul in 2 different towns. Both of which, I enjoyed thoroughly. The staff and management were helpful, giving of their time when needed, and generally pleasant to work for.

Pros

Relaxed atmosphere.

Compulsory 15 hours

Compulsory 15 hours. Due to an automobile accident and other related health issues, accident compensation is still and Avenue worth looking into. For I was unsure of my rights nor how to go about doing that?. My local GP advised me 15 hours is preferable given my current health!.

Pros

It’s good to be part of the team again

Cons

15 hours is tolerable!.

work experience

Lots of pressure especially after CovidTarget reachingI did not enjoy it at the end from Managing a store to working with my Employer. The pressure from a charity to a boutique.

Working for a great organisation

I felt like I was contributing to the lives of people in less fortunate positions than myself. I worked in a great team and it was a flexible workplace. Lots of variety in locations I visited and the work that was required.

Pros

close to home

Cons

Very busy

A good place to volunteer for the social benefits and work experience.

As a Vinnies Volunteer you get the opportunity to become an important part of a team, learn skills such as following procedures and rules and OH&S training. l You learn the principles of confidentiality and respect for diversity. If you wish to feel like a contributing member of society, particularly if you have a lot of empathy for others, this is the volunteer position for you. Honesty and integrity are key attributes you must have to be welcomed into a Vinnies volunteer position.

Pros

You can give as much or as little time as you wish. You get to socialise and be productive.

Cons

It can be dusty and sometimes a little dirty dealing with not-so-good donations.

Laid back and friendly

The environment was welcoming, and friendly. It was easy to make friends or become acquainted with your fellow volunteers. It was very nice to volunteer there.

Pros

Friendly environment

Cons

Quite boring at some points

unproductive work place

Unproductive work place, management is not up to the job they were given. Management blame the workers for their lack of understanding of how the work place works
