Culture of Bullying
Performance & Capability Manager (Former Employee) –  Sydney NSW4 April 2019
Sydney Water has one of the worst cultures I've worked in, especially in the Customer Service Division. The area is entrenched with bullying, with the senior leader known across the business for her bullying and harassment of staff. Remuneration is high for the outputs of employees but there is little progression; promotions are limited to those favored by this one leader, who for whatever reason is supported by upper management despite constant complaints about her treatment of people. Many have raised complaints formally, as well as through the union (who admit to having no power to change these issues) but the common issues will always exist as long as the same leadership team are in these roles. Sadly, HR policies are not followed and EEO & WHS, while discussed, are not a priority for the business. Flexibility and good working conditions is not what you can expect from SW or at the very least this part of the business unit. The business has some really great people at grass roots level but upper management are not strong leaders who seem to lack emotional intelligence, which results in employees either ending up staying for the money and becoming miserable or seeing the light and moving on to greener pastures.

Working for Sydney Water is a nightmare. The only people who are employed here are those who have to be
Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Liverpool NSW14 November 2018
In all the companies I have represented over the past 30 years, my experience with Sydney Water was indeed the worst. Middle management attempts to bully their way into forcing employees to do what they want them to do and not what is best for the customer or the employees.

They will, without hesitation, lie and cheat to manipulate the work place to operate to their way with no regard for any of the policies or procedures in place. Working here you need to be part of a "click" or you simply will be micro managed out. Truly the worst experience I have had the opportunity to experience.

Constant Bullying

Great salaries and flexible working arrangements
Business Support (Former Employee) –  Parramatta NSW10 July 2018
The organisation has clear plans for the future and these are clearly distributed to all staff. The working hours are generally good depending on your Manager. In support roles they are generally 7.5 hours per day with at least one day off per month. The salaries are quite generous but there is little advancement available for support roles as people tend to stay in their jobs.
Pros
Flexible working arrangements, excellent salaries
Cons
Very little opportunity for advancement in support roles

Good work life balance/ Unproductive workplace
PMO Analyst (Current Employee) –  Sydney NSW24 June 2018
The salary is good and you have a good work life balance in the company. The working environment is political which makes it unproductive. Research your immediate manager before accepting your role.

fun place to work
administration (Former Employee) –  Sydney Eastern Suburbs NSW4 February 2018
i enjoyed my career at Sydney Water, I met and worked with some wonderful people over the years and enjoyed the work enormously,

the tasks I did everyday were varied and exciting, working in payroll, accounts payable, purchasing.

the variety of work locations and people were amazing, I worked in some wonderful areas and the day to day work practices were second to none,
If i had't moved to the NSW central coast . I would still be there

Unhealthy workplace culture
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Parramatta NSW29 November 2017
Sydney Water is a great business with interesting work and great perks, pay and a 9 day fortnight. Unfortunately the culture spoils it. Many of the leaders bully staff with 75% of survey respondents claiming to have been bullied or witnessed it by a leader. There are a few leaders renowned for this and unfortunately those at the top don’t do anything about it. There have been many complaints over the years about one particular leader who is now working here in Parramtta. Friends are looked after and promoted and others are often ignored. Not a great place to be for your mental health, definitely wouldn’t recommend. Many staff are now looking for roles to get out.

Toxic workplace
prefer not to say (Current Employee) –  Parramatta NSW5 June 2017
While the pay is good and work/life balance is better than a lot of other places, what you have to "pay" for this is quite dear. It is an extremely toxic place to work where favouritism is rife. Morale is very low among the staff. Management is dictatorial and opposing views are not tolerated. Management hires their friends for new roles and are quite blatant about it. I cannot recommend this as a place to work.
Pros
Pay is good

Toxic workplace
