No job security and toxic managers

TAFE NSW is a training organisation and yet they have no respect for their trainers. Most admin jobs are ongoing permanent, but 75% of teachers are only casual- even after 10+ years. This allows unskilled managers to constantly hold teachers over a barrel and teachers comply with unethical and unreasonable demands in order to keep their insecure jobs. The environment is competitive and negative, with everyone clambering over each other for the very few ongoing contracts on offer. There is very little funding and teachers have to spend their own money on teaching resources to do a good job. Technology in the classroom is old and substandard, impacting the students' learning experience. The biggest problem is the centralised management, which leaves unskilled middle management in the regions without any oversight to make terrible decisions and treat staff badly without any recourse. I was so happy and relieved to find a job elsewhere.

Pros

The students and some wonderful colleagues

Cons

NO job security or appreciation for hard work, toxic managers with limited managerial skills

Not good

Not really good place to work in , toxic environment and the staff always mean to new employees, I don’t recommend anyone to work at TAFE as the supervisors will always put you under pressure to get the targeted job done

Do not work for this company.

They are toxic, manipulative and it's really unpleasant to work for. They can not keep staff, if you look at the staff photos everyone is new, no one stays and I've had several staff members tell me it's a horrible environment and they only stay as they are too old to get other positions else where. The hardest part of this job is the people you work with they are toxic and will lie behind your back to any and everyone. Other people aren't suprised when I mention this as it's a government agency and apparently they are all like this. It's great to have on your resume but that is it.The pay is terrible and they keep you on as a contract so they don't have to pay you sick leave or a decent wage.Honestly the most enjoyable part was when I found another job and quit.

Pros

Free food occasionally

Cons

The people I was working with

Educational and time well spent in the classroom

What is the best part of working at the company?Nothing anymore. It’s to clicky. It’s too political and there is no supportWhat is the most stressful part about working at the company? No support when you need it. Aggressive department heads. No back up. Too clicky What is the work environment and culture like at the company? In the class rooms it’s good. In the office. It’s too political. The more popular people get the more work. There is no support What is a typical day like for you at the company?7-8 hour day. Full on in the classroom. Active. Busy and talkative. All good. 30-40minutes unpaid clean up time. Then up to an hour unpaid office time.

Productive, fast pased, friendly work environment. Good pay and conditions

A good place to work for people who enjoy being busy. Customer Service Officers are monitored closely to ensure adequate work is being done each day. Work is distributed across the state so there is always plenty to do.Good pay for the work, 35 hour working week, 5 weeks annual leave (rural).

Great company to work for, however they are not flexible with contractors (mothers returning to work ) requesting for part time positions.

Good and supportive colleagues. Helpful management.

Tafe provides opportunities for those who want to progress. There is a huge amount of administrative tasks, but lots of help to negotiate one’s way through them. All in all, I would recommend TAFE NSW as a good place to work.

Pros

Supportive colleagues and good working conditions

Cons

Never ending administration that can seem obscure at times

Stressful, a lot backstabbing people from behind, slow growth

TAFE once a great company to work. But now has a lot red tape and bureaucracy idiots.TAFE has strong policy of Covid 19 vaccination and disciplinary policy - will not hesitate to dismiss anyone who crossing the forbidden line.

Pros

Cons

Backlog, management incompetence, management silencing, outdated education system

Employment

Great place to work if you can get a permanent job. A lot of casuals have been there for years. As a casual, you don’t get paid for 13 weeks of the year & centrelink won’t pay you for the short periods of time you are unemployed.

Pros

Job/ life time

Cons

Casual employment

TAFE NSW not your typical government department

TAFE NSW is a fast-paced work environment with great people to work with. It challenges you but also can be rewarding. There are many opportunities to work in different work streams in corporate and teaching sectors within TAFE. Working on campuses is a lovely workplace so different to the government/corporate offices - highly recommend give TAFE a go.

Good place to work .

Takes a while to get use to the bureaucracy and learn to tick all the right boxes, otherwise good as long as you stay out of office politics and say the right things to the right people.

Pros

Good people.

Cons

Frustrating systems.

Stressful Workplace

Systems introduced resulted in multiple handling and significantly more time taken to get through work. Unrealistic goals. Poor management with intimidation tactics used. Used to be a good workplace.

Good Place to work

The work life balance is really great, having the option to work from home two days a week. Team leaders are informative and always happy to help. No micro managing, which is good.

Good pay, managment sucked

Good pay, staff was nice, though the big wigs wanted to cut funding to everything so they could keep their cashflow so everyone else had to bite the dust.

Very hard to fit in

Phone, counter, staff, students, problem solving with students, teachers and management, complaints, data entry a lot of data entry, call centre. Many different personalities, but some students were very happy with their success at studies and that what we are at TAFE for.
