Terrible company to work for. All about politics and corrupt managers covering each others backs. Bullying and harassment is a common issue and never gets dealt with correctly by HR. Especially TAFE Queensland Gold Coast and Brisbane campuses. People “stay” their way to the top - lack of skills and experience but if you’re there long enough you’ll get promoted.
Material that we had to use was 8 years old , not current . No interest from management in relation to up to date material
Management were to concerned about the money being brought in apposed to the students being taught current information . And the clients don’t know that they have put there staff into a course with material that is 8 years old . Not being paid overtime but being given toll which can’t be taken due to being busy , I go public with this information
There are no processes and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Most managers have been in their jobs way too long and have lost touch with real world. You have to accept mediocrity and incompetence if you want to stay there. Every so often you find someone who is switched on and they are a beacon of light in the murky darkness. The majority of roles are contract, there are virtually no permanent jobs even if you are willing to sacrifice your standards.
Flexible working arrangements
A typical day at work would be previewing the class notes and familiarization with lesson to be presented to students. Preparing the classroom for students, i.e. setting up overhead projector if needed, and so forth. Presenting the days lesson once students had arrived. I learned that no two people are the same and we all learn at a different rate and in different ways and I must find out how to reach students and present the lessons in a fashion that is understandable to them. The management were great and very involved in attaining positive outcomes and also allowed the teachers a lot of autonomy in the classroom. The workplace culture was one of a common desire to present the best product possible to our students. The hardest part of the job was having a student who is just not able to grasp the concepts being taught, no matter how hard we tried as a team to have a successful outcome. The most enjoyable part of the job was having students who understand a concept being taught, i.e. seeing the light come on, so to speak.
Helping students learn new skills and gaining trade knowledge.
None I can think of.
This workplace also was exciting. I worked in the RPL unit and liaised with customers and assessors and well as work peers and management. Most of this work was processing RPL applications but also involved reporting data entry and customers service, processing awards paperwork and normal office administration procesures eg. filing, phone work and liaising with teaching staff.
Feel Good Job
The best part of my job was working with students and learning new things about the job role and progressing from one positon to another.
My typical day was busy and productive. I learnt a lot from this job. This job made me a better employee and pushed me to perform at a high standard. I learnt a lot of things from this position - customer service, computer skills, electronic filing, public speaking, dealing with complaints, conflict resolution, teaching. The management was alright but support was minimal. The workplace culture was always developing as workload was high and unevenly shared. The hardest part of the job was marking a lot of assignments and meeting deadlines due to minimal support. we had to mark 50-100 assignments per cohort. The most enjoyable part of the job was teaching and growing as a professional.
Teaching, Professioanl development
workload at the end of the semester.
It is very good place to work. Flexible working hours working from 8am till 4pm. I have been there for the pat 23 years. The new management wants to get rid of all the emplyees who have worked for a long period.
Good working hours
no job security
I enjoy working with TAFE in my current role of Delivery Support Officer and my previous role with Facilities. I enjoy the team cohesion with work peers and educators. I enjoy the proactive attitude the senior executive have undertaken and continue to undertake and encourage all staff to participate in to provide the best possible vocational education training across a varied sphere of faculty for all Queenslanders, interstate and international students.
Being a team member that provides students with a future in their chosen vocation.
Phone clients for appointments Visit clients to conduct sign ups Solve any training issues by collaborating with management and teachers Perform any administrative tasks as required The hardest part of the job is achieving the best training outcome for the client with the resources available and legal constraints The best part of the job is achieving client satisfaction when problems are overcome
Very flexible work hours
Poor job security
