Island Paradise
Senior Housekeeping Supervisor (Former Employee) - Moreton Bay QLD - 1 March 2020
There are many pros and cons to working at Tangalooma. The pros being it is a beautiful island paradise and only an hour and a half on the boat from Brisbane.
The cons are staff accommodation is mostly antiquated and many staff are crowded into a small area.
The staff food goes from good to inedible and causes friction with staff. I don’t think that the Labor laws are always adhered too. For example people may work weeks without days off.

Great for young people & travellers
Dolphin Feeder (Former Employee) - Tangalooma QLD - 15 January 2020
The money is minimum wage but the experience is maximum reward. There isn't much you can do in your spare time but it is paradise so if you are a nature lover hopefully that is enough for you.
Pros
Island life
Cons
seclusion, low income

Life at work
Internship - Cook (Current Employee) - Tangalooma QLD - 11 July 2018
My typical day at work is fun, although I have to say that my work has become a routine as I do the same thing everyday, although sometimes it changes, depending on the season. I learned a lot from my co-workers, as they show me the right ways around the kitchen. The management is okay, although I have to say they need to improve, so that the staff will feel secure and happy with their jobs. The hardest part of the job is waking up early for a 4am shift, although I got used to it, as I have been doing it for almost 7 months now. The most enjoyable part of the job, is working and being around with people that I treat as my own family.
Pros
cheap accommodation that includes the food

Multicultural and Beautiful
Guest Services/Japanese Guest Liaison (Former Employee) - australia - 27 April 2018
Tangalooma was an island resort on an island called Moreton Island Just off Brisbane.
It is the 3rd biggest sand island in the world, so everything except for the sand in our shoes, all the staff from different departments were pretty happy.
Surrounded by water which meant sunset on the water, which is not what everyone gets on the east coast.
Work was interesting everyday in the tours desk as there were the Chinese, Korean and the Japanese tour guides all in one office.

Don’t go there
Food and Beverage Supervisor (Former Employee) - Queensland - 20 January 2018
The management is pathetic in this place. They have no clue how to run a Resort. I experienced this first hand being a manager myself. My advise to you would be go there only if you cannot find a job anywhere else. Period.
Pros
Can save a bit of money
Cons
Too many to list

Committed, Fun and Supportive Team and Superb Environment
Tour Guide (Former Employee) - Moreton Island Queensland - 16 December 2017
A typical day was the general 1.5hr Desert Safari Tobogganing Tours, 3 times a day. Then a 6hr Southern Tour of the Island commenced 3 days a week and a 4hr Northern Tour occurred roughly once a week.
All tours we would prepare the buses and collect our guests and give a safety briefing for the bus journey. We would speak about the history, culture, animals and nature of the island on all the tours. The Tobogganing Tour we provide another safety demonstration of the Sand Sliding at the dunes.
Management always provided a positive and supportive environment to work within. They worked on tours when required, provided training as required, allowed individual growth and ensured cohesive team work was practiced.
The challenging aspect of the job was the communication barriers with the varied Non-English speaking cultures of the world. Learning to incorporate basic greetings and instructions in another language greatly assisted with connection and understanding of all peoples.
The greatest part of the job was connecting with people and encouraging people to break through their fear of Sand Tobogganing. The joy and excitement witnessed from people pushing through their fears - especially those who initially were frozen with fear standing on-top of the sand dune looking down to the bottom was amazing to see.
Pros
Seeing more of the island
Cons
Hot weather

Nice and pretty
Waitress (Former Employee) - Brisbane, QLD - 23 April 2015
It's a beautiful island, the environment is so wonderful, and pay is very high. It's the high pay I ever get...
Working and pleasuring together, I was work in restaurant, everyday can see the beach in front of you, calling u to come.
After work, everyone will go to beach, bar to have a drink, or snorkeling, play squash, so many thing to do.
Working in there, co-works are friendly, funny, easygoing.
Something we would have wedding function or party.
But some manager or co-work isn't easy to work with...
Every work has the hard part.
