Fun place to work and learn new things but sales pressure is high

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I've experienced working in two different Telstra stores and in both stores I did feel as though there was an effort to make us feel heard and cared about, with a good team attitude, but no matter how hard they try, sales pressure on the store results in a lot of pressure from management onto their consultants. There's at least 11 different metrics to worry about hitting on a day to day basis, while often times dealing with aggressive or upset customers that just want their problem fixed and not a new speaker. It can be quite stressful and if you're not passionate about sales and instead want to help people and problem solve, this isn't the place for you.

Pros

Monthly commissions of usually $100 - $400

Cons

Low base salary

Very food environment

Amazing place to work in and very friendly team and managers. They always help you and never get bored if you asked or if you needed any help. They are always keen on giving you the correct info.

Worst place to work in Toxic environment

It is like you don't belong to the workplace, even to use washroom and to use washroom also no more than 5 mins. TL is great and previously, like 3 months ago, even the management was good but with the recent changes in company the new management makes you feel worse not even a minute gap between calls or else it would effect your statistics for which your are answerable to TL who is ultimately answerable to Management. Flexibility is nothing but WFH that's it you can move here and there once you start the shift. NOTHING TO LEARN AND NO CAREER PROGRESSION. IF YOU JOIN AS CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST YOU WILL BE STUCK UNDER CUSTOMER SERVICE. APPLY INTERNALLY AND EVEN FOR EMPLOYEES THEY DON'T EVEN PROVIDE THE REASON WHY THEY HAVE REJECTED THE APPLICATION. ***ALL THESE APPLY TO CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST POSITION AND I DON'T KNOW ABOUT HOW IT WORKS IN OTHER POSITIONS****

Great culture

Supportive culture and competitive salary. If you do the hard yards you’re rewarded with meaningful work. Career progression is mostly lateral moves.

Toxic environment.

Poorly managed teams with managers that should not be managing people..Horrible to get ahead, unless your in the clicky groups. Very poor systems, everything is ran out of an excel spreadsheet, as there is no calaboration with many systems. Avoid at all costs.

Pros

Some good people

Cons

Terrible Management

Professional and enjoyable workplace

I enjoyed my time at Telstra. The training was quite long and the job did feel monotonous through the day, but for someone who is willing to work through those challenges it was a fantastic job and great pay.

Wouldn’t recommend

If you’re looking for a place that will stress you out and give you plenty of anxiety Telstra is the one, store managers will talk about you while in front of you but try make it subtle, will question you and micro manage you especially when it can to the elderly who couldn’t afford the most expensive upgrade you got in trouble for not pushing a sale, mind you, you don’t get any commission until after 6 months. You tell your store manager you have anxiety and they tell you “Get over it” don’t got through training that well you sit there a watch videos and then shadow people for a few days. If the managers and such don’t like you, they give you all the tech support where no commission is made and give their favourites all the upgrades.

Pros

Break time

Cons

Everything

Friendly workplace

Good place to work, helpful team. Busy call lines, helpful tools to get you through the job, a lot of resources to help you find your answers + helpful team to assist if you are stuck

It’s an alright place, relatively chill

Good pay, a lot of Politics however. I found that while the work can be fulfilling, it can also be overshadowed by the people who rely on gender to make progress

Senior BDM

Great work life balance but terrible management with full of bureaucracy and egalitarianism. Leadership doesn’t care about intelligence and hard work.

not a supportive healthy workplace.

Sales targets and KPIs were unachievable, Staff were encouraged by management to be deceitful to customers. Onboarding it was encouraged to skip through the videos, so you could complete them quicker and "get out on the floor". training on the shop floor is completed with another sales consultant this is not beneficial as the person training you is taken away from their personal targets and KPIs affecting possible commission.

Average Workplace

Nice place to work but to much sales pressure and everyone trying to fool customer to buy more accessories because they are always pressured by managers for sales

Good place to start out

Good for an initial workplace to gain some basic skills which will help you in the future. Apart from that the work environment is pretty basic, nothing special

Great place to work, great fun co workers, great environment. Collaboration is encouraged and you never feel like you’re alone. I enjoyed my time and feel like I thrived in my position.

Boring, slow, woke, inefficient.

What is the best part of working at the company? The customers, the management was ignorant and more worried about making friend with people. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The ignorant demeanour your expected to display. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Toxic, friend orientated & not performance orientated. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Hurry up and wait for all the long term employees to catch up because their used to doing nothing.

Sales Driven

Work is none stop, you are constantly monitored and recorded via screens, microphone. They say they care about customer service but what it’s really about is selling Gen3 Wi-Fi Boosters, if you don’t try and talk every single customer into buying one you will be pulled into HR. No support, unable to take annual leave unless applied for every year in advance

decent pay

The pay is decent but the work can be stressful. My workmates are really nice and helpful. Training was provided but some aspects you would have to learn as you go and may not be covered.

productive and fun workplace

i would say the job itself is very tiring and mentally draining, but at the same time, the team itself is very fun, you'll learn a lot about sales and talking to the people

Great interview process

Great interview process, easy on boarding. Very convenient for people working with disabilities being able to work from home. Will save money on the commute and be able to work a full time job again.

Micromanaged and underpaid

Great team to work with. Base rate is too low for the 000 calls that we have to answer. Not recognised as a front line worker and no incentives or rewards for achieving good results
