No training, just sink or swim
Barista/All Rounder (Current Employee) - Queensland - 22 September 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedHard to talk to regular customers, no training. Fast paced, with drive thru & trying to serve in store customers as well, with only 2 rostered people & no chef if you get a customer wanting breakfast. ( good luck) No structure. Stressful environment, with no care factor from management.
Pros
Some great customers & team members
Cons
No backup from management, hours differ week to week.

The Coffee Club insights
Areas for improvement
- Support from manager
- General feeling of work happiness
- Sense of belonging
Don’t ever join, nor support this money hungry franchise
CHEF (Former Employee) - Bateau Bay NSW - 25 October 2023
Management really depends on where you work, mine was fine and enjoyable. HEAD OFFICE. I could write an endless review about this horrid franchise, 8 years I’ve put into this business and been paid the absolute minimum wage for a cook/chef role working 5 days a week. The constant emails harassing you about the hundreds of WHS and online training modules you have to complete and reset and complete again later on is rediculous! Everything, absolutely everything comes to down to how much head office is earning, they don’t listen to managers, staff members or even regular customers that keep their business running. If it’s not building their bank account it will be ignored. Make sure you’ve got food coming out in a presentable manner in under 2 minutes no matter how busy the period is, coffees must be perfect no matter what the rush, and they expect you to be able to make coffees, food and serve customers with 3 staff members, they have voiced this many many times directly to our managers who visibly are shocked to understand how a busy could run with 3 staff members at all, as was I.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Unhelpful/selfish head office

Fun and dynamic environment that wears you down in no time
Barista/All Rounder (Former Employee) - Western Australia - 6 September 2023
It was a great first job out if high school. Had a great manager and core team that allowed me to become proficient quickly However, owners were notorious rule benders and often took staff for granted.
Pros
Free coffee
Cons
Overworked and overlooked. High staff turnover

Management was horrible
Service Attendant (Former Employee) - Sydney Olympic Park NSW - 14 July 2023
Bad treatment from management due to favouritism for other employees, low pay ( below the awards at the time), toxic work environment always had to work on eggshells, and the boss was creepy.
Pros
50% discounted food and drinks
Cons
Horrible Management

Great teamwork but terrible upper management.
Barista/All Rounder (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD Brisbane Airport - 8 June 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The coworkers are great! They have a food discount and free coffee, which is very nice. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The management's all over the place. Whenever you shoot an email to HR about your bloody payslip, you never hear back. You end up havin' to hassle the bosses for answers or to fix up your hours. It's a right headache, mate! You gotta keep an eagle eye on your payslip all the time 'cause most of the time they shortchange. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Work environment is nice, but the manageent sucks!

Fast pace
Cook/Kitchen Hand (Current Employee) - Bundaberg QLD - 19 April 2023
Fast pace when busy. Customers can be overbearing but work colleagues and Manager make the time fun. Free beverage on shift. A lot of on going training on line.

concerning
Barista (Former Employee) - WA - 19 April 2023
most managers are very weird, have a lot of personal issues that are borderline criminal/abusive & predatory. they will project it onto you so i wouldn't recommend staying for long. there's also lot of gossip about the other stores & insane favoritism, certainly not a healthy environment
Pros
structured roles for work, coworkers are nice
Cons
weird managers who bully/prey on employees, ableist & discriminatory, racist enviroment

Easy and fast paced
Food and Beverage Attendant (Former Employee) - Campbelltown NSW - 14 March 2023
Was a fun and easy job overall, nice getting to know regulars and working with the team, got a bit stressful at times with the rush hours and the weekend work but it wasn’t overwhelming, the hours were always different each day and would get called in very last minute making it difficult.
Pros
Discounts, good management
Cons
Either no hours or 40 hours.

Jobs at The Coffee Club
Toxic and sad
Waitress (Current Employee) - Springfield QLD - 14 March 2023
Working there can be fun if people are nice but most of the time people go home crying. People often spoke bad about everyone and The managers were rude to younger staff and people were disrespectful to new staff.
Pros
get sent home early
Cons
Boss doesnt know how to run a company

Good experience but be weary
Shift Supervisor/Manager (Former Employee) - Capalaba QLD - 30 January 2023
Was a great workplace to learn fast paced hospitality however management was poor and brand focused. Didn’t care about their staff and a lot of gossiping and drama. Management also provided no positive feedback - only negative and there was no proper training given. Overall I’d say a good place to gain experience however be weary of clique like behaviour and be ready to receive zero positive engagement from management.
Pros
1 free drink
Cons
Poor management, gossipy, lack of formal training

Fantastic company
I worked at the Coffee Club for three years and moved up rather quickly. I was very devoted to my job and moved from floor staff to barista to management in a short space of time. If you put in the effort results will follow. They have constant trainings and opportunities and the company is worldwide so you could also travel with them if you wanted to. The pay was pretty fantastic, and I was fortunate to work somewhere that had work/life balance and gave me full time certified hours as a casual.
Pros
Free food/drinks, discounts, great team culture, support, training.
Cons
Long hours.

Avoid applying or working here if you want to be happy
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - Morayfield QLD - 24 January 2023
Expected to do Above Job description and Pay Rate with no appreciation. Horrible environment when corporate are around. They judge and comment on you personally and minimal to do with work. Their ideal candidates would be Robots.
Cons
Expectations. Your are never listened to

Don't Work for Bendigo Coffee Club
Front of House Staff (Former Employee) - Bendigo VIC - 3 November 2022
Your coworkers will be amazing but the actual owners are horrible to staff. You will be punished for having sick days or requesting time off with your hours cut for a week or 2, same with any discussions about improving the workplace. There are many other things but I don't want to risk this not being anonymous. I will just say there are many reasons for a high staff turnover and good luck if you work there still or decide to work there

Overall not worth it
Casual Wait Staff (Former Employee) - Newcastle NSW - 2 November 2022
Not fun, some staff were nice and seemed to do their job well but others were rude and created a poor workplace culture. Management didn't care about anything other than sales. No interview process and new staff are treated pretty poorly.

Productive and Fast Paced
Barista/Waitress, Events Management (Former Employee) - Mount Ommaney QLD - 1 November 2022
Every day at work was productive, always stay busy and able to progress within the company. Always friendly work relationships and great communication within the employer. A lot of flexibility to suit your needs and have a great work and life balance which can be hard to find within employment It can be a very busy job depending on location but is a great place to learn how to work under pressure
Pros
Flexibility, Career growth, training and certificate qualifications
Cons
extending your availability due to short staffed/casual position

Supportive leader
Cook/Chef (Current Employee) - Adelaide CBD SA - 28 October 2022
The leader is very good person. She never blame people but always find solutions. If you are new person who never work before in hospitality, she likes to give a chance to people who want to learn everything
Cons
No free lunch

Boring, a lot of online modules to keep upto date about company values and expectations
Barista/All Rounder (Former Employee) - Redbank QLD - 23 September 2022
The Coffee Club would be average, if you’re looking for a place that’s professional and have a routine of how things run, it’s the place to go. Otherwise if you want to be controlled on how you serve your customers and the pressure of upselling, it’s the worst. Not a place that has good vibes and an upbeat environment. They train you to be like a robot and have a standard that everyone has to be the same.
Pros
Discount of food, free coffee on shift.
Cons
Online modules, Expectations to be something your not.

Opportunity to get loads of hours if you work hard
Barista/All Rounder (Current Employee) - Cairns QLD - 15 August 2022
The are really appreciative if you know what you are doing. Loads of hours available because they trust my work. Yes, it can be busy. Yes, it can be stressful- but that is every job in hospitality. But the bosses are great

fun but a bit stressful
Barista (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 5 August 2022
I am just lucky to be part of TCC in Brisbane. I have a very lovely and generous Boss. Although, there is no room for growth as the owner is always there. no shift supervisor no manager.
Pros
free food and very kind owner
Cons
no growth
