Good but very high pressure sales

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Too many managers and very high sales and retail expectations. Staff compete against each other for sales and there is to much to force upon customers.

Productive and fun workplace

Helpful management. productive culture. Older staff are generally the most knowledgeable people on the planet. Perhaps a bit more could be done in terms of tech - it can get a bit confusing needing a dozen plus login credentials across the entire network.

Do not work here!!

The good guys are HORRENDOUS to work for. Like most big companies, you are nothing more than a number to them. When staff raise bullying and mental health issues to management, they are told to harden up. Management is incredibly unsupportive and refuse to speak to upset customers who ask specifically for them. Don’t start working here as a casual, they won’t ever offer you part time, instead they will hire new part timers to push you out of your role. I wish I never took the job here.workplace culture is horrendous, team is full of gossiping and drama which is encouraged by management.

Pros

some staff are nice

Cons

Lack of care for staff, workplace culture is terrible, unethical and depressing workplace

Fun at times

Bad salary, decent commissions if you can do tvs and cooking, can generally get to over 90k/y. Pushy on uncontrollable kpis. Great staff price on most products

Completely mismanaged and paid the legal minimum for it

A typical day at work included dealing with a large number of customers with inadequate staff to manage them, the phones and emails.Click-and-collect orders are rarely retrieved for the customer when they're told it's ready to collect. Staff don't input the location of stock so customers can spend 20 minutes waiting for their item that they could have collected themselves. a coworker who worked at JB which owns Good Guys, said many of our tasks were delegated to other departments.Staff are paid at the award rate to the cent and only get the benefit of discounts which can be good on some items like white goods.Managers don't provide any feedback and would rather hire someone else to replace you.

Pros

Possible large discounts on white goods

Cons

Understaffed, unorganised and mismanaged.

Horrible management at Good Guys

Make you feel awful. Work not shared evenly between people. Belittled in front of others, customers and behind doors- HR complaints come to nothing - *unless they physically abuse someone nothing is going to change*. When speaking up things are brushed off and blamed on others- management won't take any responsibility for anything and will push their own jobs onto team leaders without taking from their budgets.

Pros

Commission and set hourly pay rate.

Cons

Management horrible

Fast paced during the busy hours

Overall an okay working experience. Managers were frustrating - bad at listening when you say you aren't available - and demanding (meeting budgets etc.) Shifts completely drop off in February/March/April. I'm barely getting any work, apparently because of budget cuts. I enjoy working there, but night shifts (4pm to 9pm) can get extremely boring. Also a lot of product knowledge is required.

Greedy parent company destroying staff drive and morale

If it was possible to give less than a star I would. Between the lack of support from head office. Idiotic upper management detached from the reality of their customers and what they are forcing on staff in regards to unrealistic KPI’s and expectations. It’s clear this company is about profits for its nest egg shareholders and bonuses for higher ups at the expensive of the mental health of their staff. In addition to secretly removing their sales incentive program, they have then gone and changed the commission payment structure effectively further removing incentive for staff to hit their sales targets. Again doing it sneakily and not advising the staff this was happening. It was once upon a time a good place to work but it’s now clear it’s driven by corporate greed and not worth being here any more. Constant employee surveys getting ignored and results not shared just being done to make it look like something is being done and they care about us when everyone can see through the facade. No wonder the exodus of long term staff has been so high. Never been clearer that you’re a number and that’s it. Won’t be a place I will miss working at. Resignation will be coming soon.

Stressful with no communication or growth, have no clear direction, very unhealthy work place

If the company lifted up there game I would recommend this job to someone but atm I would personally not want to work at a place like that. Not enough staff, many don’t get paid for the amount of work they do, manager does not stick to contract rules, no communication for fair rights in the work place. No one gets the role they apply for you get what your given and you have to go by it, they are never supporting in personal or work issues, and always have to tell others something they shouldn’t have, no respect the staff and managers will only cheer or clap you on unless you work past your limit never have a break or anything in your system for the whole day

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, some lunch breaks, bad language, bad team work

Have had a lot of health issues over the last few months and the management team have been nothing but supportive and understanding. Super flexible and accommodating.

Stressful and frustrating

Staff have the same attitude across all stores. Management doesn’t listen much and when they do they don’t do much. A sales focused company that doesn’t care about other departments

A stressful, repetitive, boring work place

you are practically required to know everything in customers eyes. everyone in that works there is always angry which i cant blame but it is reflected onto everyone especially when managers are the ones that are angry, makes everyone feel like awful. overall the only benefit in the end was the staff discounts everything else was stupid, having to work for commission just to make a paycheck especially when we live in a world where buying things instore is becoming less and more online which you get nothing for and when people don't buy from you because the price is too high and you cant lower it because you wont get payed the extra money that you need to make the average pay of a normal worker. Its given a lot of work experience that will go unnoticed to any employer you go to after unless they have worked there before they wont know the pain nor how much you are responsible for.

Pros

Staff Disc

Cons

stupid customers, low pay, long hours, high expectations

Stressful with no support

Working for the good guys for over a year, I have never been so stressed. Constantly under staffed with expectations and pressure way too high. No support from management and a constant rift between staff who are supposed to work together from different departments.

Pros

Decent pay

Cons

High pressure

Management digging their own grave.

Constant revolving door of incompetent and condescending managers that cause more problems than they solve. Employees are only seen as numbers and management prefers keeping the bulk of them on casual contracts so they can cut their hours when their endless list of redundant and demotivating KPIs, which include but are certainly not limited to the number of sales against how many times the automatic doors open in a given day and the average number of items per transaction, are not being met. As such, there is little to no career progression offered within the organisation. Would be hard pressed to find a more depressing work environment, the apathetic outlook of a majority of the staff is testament to the toxic management structure. It's a miracle the Good Guys is still in business all things considered.

Pros

Coworkers

Cons

Low pay, micromanagement, understaffing, lack of career progression, employees seen as numbers

Productive, relaxed and full on.

Within the role of administration, there is a lot of stress along with a lot of calm instances. You need to like doing paperwork if you want to do administration. You need to be prepared to help customers, take phone class and deal with the odd cranky customers. But most of the time you'll have neutral and sometimes positive interactions with customers. Its rewarding but also demanding.

Pros

10-15 minute paid lunches after 4hrs work, Understanding management, the befits are rewarding, friendly staff lost of learning opportunities

Cons

Stressful, long hours, cranky customers, a lot of training before you can do anything. easy to mess up.

Doing good!

Good culture all round, no pressure to work in the office although a very good place to be with regular events in the office e.g. Artists coming in to perform at lunch time!

Pros

Staff discount across The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi

Cons

Fast pace isnt for everyone

Huge learning potential

Very easy to use software that could make u work efficiently, which is quite rarely seen in retailer head office. Work could be stressful as it's fast moving goods, but learn and grow a lot on the job. The only disadvantage is the limited career progression, but definitely a good training ground to learn and grow your business acumen in retail world.

Worst workplace

Maribyrnong store was the most toxic environment, especially with the management. They will over work you, gaslight you and play favouritism like crazy. RUN.

Pros

Going home

Cons

Controlling, No work life balance, intolerant to leave requests

Quick pace environment where KPI'S are measured & valued.

Great opportunities for highly motivated individuals who can work well with others, to achieve team results. Must be willing to adapt & work in face pace environments.
