Good Place to Work

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It's one of the few places where you can work only with kids, and they have a lot of great resources for their kid and adult classes. They also provide a syllabus for adult classes, which is nice. Commuting can be difficult, but they try to keep your classes on the same day close together. It's nice that they give you a salary so that you don't lose out on money when there are a lot of holidays, like September. It would be nice if management would respond to emails more. Sometimes they don't respond at all. It would also be nice if management was a little more helpful when there are technical problems when teaching online.

Pros

Salaried job, Central office for planning, Good orientation for new teachers, Can teach kids

Cons

Long commutes, Slow to respond to emails

Challenging students

What's most challenging is working is Arabic students. You'd be working with military Arabic men. This group of students tend to be very loud, very controlling toward the teachers. Their behavior is disrespectful. A teacher can be highly stressed due to this kind of students. My experience has taught me a lot. TLC has Saudi Arabian students that come on a yearly basis. The school has mostly over 80% of Arabic military men. If you are a strong will teacher then you might handle this group of students.

Pros

No work on Fridays

Cons

Dealing with Arabian students

Flexible start/end times with little educational integrity

This is a for-profit company, which means that the customer is always right and thusly passes each level regardless of aptitude. My employment ended due to lack of students after 2 years. I don't even know if this place is open anymore.

Friendly & Professionally Rewarding place to work

The Language Company has the distinction of being both a tremendous professional venture and a rewarding personal experience. Working for The Language Company allows one to grow professionally as well as personally, to meet colleagues willing to share and assist, and all staff had the opportunity to advance in the field.

Pros

Recognition of professional & personal accomplishments, great camaraderie & sharing of ideas, general attitude of respect among and beyween teachers and students.

Cons

The general nature/structure of IEP can be stressful.

Good place to get some teaching experience

I enjoyed teaching at TLC. It was challenging learning how to plan for 5 hours of instruction every day, especially since we had so many objectives to teach in a 4 week session so organizational skills are a must for this job. Don't expect to ever make much money or to be promoted to higher positions, so I wouldn't look at TLC as a good place for a lifelong career, but again it's a great place to get some experience under your belt.

Pros

4 day weekend every 4 weeks, the students

Cons

unpaid lunch, short breaks, low pay, the students

Overall a good place to work.

Small classes allowing instructors to give more attention to students and their progress. Teachers are collaborative, they work together and help each other when needed. Director and assistant director are very helpful.

Good support staff

The schedule is chaotic, the extensive travel and long days are grueling, but the staff does all they can to be reasonable, supportive and appreciative. You have a lot of autonomy and flexibility in teaching, with plenty of access to useful materials.

Pros

Understanding staff, minimum salary for full time employees

Cons

Have to be available 8am-8pm, may be travelling around 12+ hours in a day to teach only 5 or 6 classes, constantly changing schedule

Great Working Environment

The team at The Language Company was extremely supportive and helpful with any questions one might have. My only wish is that the account managers would be more available in the morning to help with issues with morning classes. The most enjoyable part of the job is definitely seeing the improvement that the students make in their English. One complaint that I had, but it was fully disclosed by the company was that there was no travel stipend. You would spend a lot of time on public transportation and that adds up when you have low pay.

Not bad, but unstable enrollment

I love working here -- I really have no complaints, except the pay isn't great and the enrollment fluctuates. I wonder what manner of sales initiatives the company really utilizes. The students are from all over and I love that they are usually motivated.

Good manager; excellent staff

This company would be better if the owners were educators rather than business owners. They have no clue how people learn or how their staff should be treated.

Pros

Short work day

Cons

The pay was *disgraceful*.

culturally engaging, great place for academic and personal growth using English language

My experience here has taught me a lot about my career goals. I have continued to develop my communication and people skills as I engage students with the English language, providing them an environment that fosters positive growth. The discussions provide a neat cultural exchange.
