Not bad if you have other commitment
Table Games Dealer (Former Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 14 May 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by Indeedeasy job over all, one thing to keep in mind is do not take customer's anger personally. One good thing is you get to work with different people everyday, and some of them might been there for ages but you never seen them around.
Pros
free meals
Cons
shift work

The Star Entertainment Group insights
Areas for improvement
- Trust in colleagues
- Sense of belonging
- Support from manager
good fun place to work but few downsides
croupier (Current Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 7 March 2020
good place to work with free food and such
good fun games, sometimes youll have guests who come for fun and difficult guests to come to make money
however agm's (assistant gaming managers) and managers in general seem to have a superiority complex instead of teamwork orientated perspective
not allowed to drink water during shift which sucks because you have to talk alot

Fun, Fast Paced
Waiter, Fuel Sports Bar (Former Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 3 November 2019
Quick and fast paced
"fun" but just really quick in pace due to amount of people -
that surround you. Can be tough at times physically and mentally but OK.
Has plenty of benefits and the people inspire you to enjoy the work tasks and events you join-in to see and work in.
It's consuming work on the weekends and public holidays due to the high traffic of patrons, but you get used to it, it makes you a people person.
The workplace itself will take care of your needs, food and laundry. You just have to be there.

This Place Will Make You Feel Replaceable
Croupier (Current Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 14 June 2019
middle management is good. they take care of their staff.
upper management makes questionable decisions and do not listen to what their staff is telling them to change. renovations happen every year. it feels like they are cutting costs at the expense of staff employment.
This place hires a lot of people. If you cannot COPE with their work requirements, they MAY NOT make room for it. best to find another job elsewhere that will be more flexible. for example, if you're full time who wants to switch part-time because of uni, you may not get it.
back in the good old days, you had a work-life balance. the whole roster for full-timers was consistent the whole month despite having rotating shifts.
Now, your days off changes every week. best to call in sick if you need days off since they probably cant swap your days off because the days you want to work instead are "overstaffed." getting long annual leave worth a month is difficult since there's a high chance you wont get it since theres 1-3 days unavailable that they cant accommodate for.
if you want to switch to part time, there's a LOOOOONNNNGGGG wait list which you more likely will not get into. want extra shifts as a part-timer or casual? dont expect any. they're "overstaffed" and may not provide anything outside your contracted shifts.
BTW theyre hiring more staff. mostly part-time. so, if you want extra shifts, its really hard to get them. there's a higher chance you cant pick up any more shifts outside your contracted hours due to the number of dealers there. there's too many dealers and not enough shifts -
Pros
free lunch and laundry
Cons
inflexible working hours, career progression is almost non-existent, hard to get the days you want off, many disgruntled customers and will make you feel irreplaceable

Underpaid, understaffed, overworked and overscrutinized.
Surveillance Operator (Former Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 1 October 2018
This place destroys morale, management bullies staff. The pay is underwhelming when compared to other control rooms, which all only have a fraction of the work load. Switching shifts between days and nights every two weeks, except when youre on "swing shift" which is every second month or so, where you switch multiple times per week, its extremely unhealthy. The work environment is very toxic, staff members step on each other to get ahead. The job also requires you to give two months written notice if you want to leave, and if you fail to do so they strip you of all leave entitlements and payouts. Multiple staff members have also been the subject of unfair dismissal, so there isnt even any job security. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for work, I'm writing this becauss I dont want anyone else to go through what my workmates and I went through. Literally any other control room job is better, keep looking, stick with regular security until you find something else.
Pros
Some staff are ok
Cons
Literally everything else

Croupier (Former Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 11 September 2017
12 1/2 yrs of working here is as a croupier is challenging, since i work mostly in the private room and play with big spender or what we call junkets where they bet big amount of money, have to be attentive and concentration on the job is what more important,

Diverse, can be demanding, good team.
Porter/Bellman (Current Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 3 February 2017
TheStar provides a diverse workplace both in terms of the people you work with and the customers you deal with on a daily basis. You are expected to provide your best in customer service. Be able to resolve problems, provide information and help with customer needs.
Although the hours worked can be all over the place, it does provide some degree of flexibility. As with any shift work position,
tiredness is probably the hardest point to deal with along with customer expectations.
Pros
Meals and uniforms are provided by the company.
Cons
Working shift work.

Gamble your life
Food and Beverage (Former Employee) - Pyrmont NSW - 19 March 2016
Very tedious job but good pay in the end. Getting to know regulars but also dealing with frustrated guest that have lost big amounts of money and will aim for a target to release their frustration.
Pros
Good salary
Cons
Overnight shifts

Great Teamwork
Gaming Supervisor (Former Employee) - Pyrmont, NSW - 8 October 2015
Goldmark was paramount in my initial introduction to the jewellery industry and training me as a junior manager. I was privileged to have been mentored by some amazing managers who had many years of sales experience and took me on as a daughter. Goldmark groomed me for a happy and successful career in sales and management.
Pros
promotion
Cons
staff cutbacks

Exciting and productive workplace
Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) - Pyrmont, NSW - 17 June 2014
Lots of training was received. The skills were needed in many areas and departments in the work space. The kitchen, toilets, hotel rooms and offices (just to name a few) were areas where maintenance work needed to be conducted. Changing lights, basic plumbing, basic carpentry, cleaning were some of the requirements needed. The workplace environment was good.
