University tutoring role
University Tutor (Former Employee) –  St. Lucia, QLD28 July 2015
Freedom to approach teaching with your own style is given. Lots of bureaucracy involved. Management is completely dependent on the lecturer of the course. Lots of freedom to work in your own way is given.
Pros
Marking work is done remotely.

Volunteer research assistant (Former Employee) –  Peregian Beach, Queensland12 November 2014
As land-based volunteers our typical day involved conducting focal follows of humpback whales from viewpoints, using theodolites and VADAR software. We became highly efficient in the use of these. My co-workers (i.e. the other volunteers) where a fantastic group, and we all worked fantastically and efficiently together as a team.
The hardest part of the job was at the times when many whales where in the area, and it became extremely difficult to discern which whales where the pod being followed. The most enjoyable part was when you would have a day on one of the boats, conducting focal follows from there.
Pros
Food and accommodation provided
Cons
Long days

Administration (Former Employee) –  St Lucia, QLD4 March 2013
A typical day working at the University starts with a coffee. All fellow employee's are lovely, willing to help in any situation. The hardest part was getting a car park to actually go to work. The most enjoyable part is the social gatherings and event held for the professors and the students.

Clerical Officer (Former Employee) –  Brisbane, Qld4 September 2012
Working at a University is a different experience from working in private enterprise. There are so many Departments and Schools that concentrate on different areas of expertise. It gives you an insight into the difficulties experienced by the many students, both domestic and international, and the teaching staff who then have to liaise with the administration side of things. The hardest part of my job was placating irate customers who could have been either staff, students or members of the public, that had received a traffic infringement. The most enjoyable part was using my customer service skills to make someone's day, and being thanked for my effort. It is always nice to be appreciated and feel it is a job well done.
Pros
learning new skills that are productive to your job description, by enroling in courses on campus. also enjoying social lunches at some of the cafes around campus.
Cons
finding a car park, especially if running late.

Biology Tutor (Former Employee) –  Queensland, Australia18 July 2012
Assisted students with problem based learning and I learnt alot diversity and various student needs.
We had a strong cohesive tutoring team of five, which was excellent for running laboratory classes with approximately 60 students.
The hardest part of the job was keeping the students motivated and engaged throughout the 4 hrs. Some were passionate while others required prodding and mentoring to get through the hours.
The most enjoyable part of the job was watching the amazement on the students faces when they got through the tasks and realised that they were not as difficult as they had envisioned them to be
Pros
cultivated productive working relationships across the department
