Big projects

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Working within a small team on big infrastructure projects was interesting, and at times very busy and pressured. However, the relationships and support between colleagues was excellent and therefore helpful during these times.

Pros

Free refreshments and nice working environment. Flexibility

Cons

Fixed term contract

Shocking. By far the WORST place I have ever worked.

Have you ever watched Utopia? This place is exactly like it but worse. If not, just watch the nightly news to see all of the government incompetence, leadership backstabbing and deception and bungles and you'll get an idea of exactly what this place is like. This is Covid's hotel quarantine and Ruby Princess exemplified. And they get away with it. Transport for NSW is a a terrible place where everything is fake and they talk the talk and don't walk the walk You would be horrified to see the way they waste your hard-earned tax payer dollar. Incompetence is everywhere and usually rewarded - people are constantly promoted beyond their level of competence. It's impossible to get things done, either because of the rules and policies or idiots in powerful positions who just don't want things to change. The place is overly political, risk-averse and process-oriented to the point of suffocation. No results / performance orientation whatsoever and yet ridiculously long hours - time spent doing a whole lot of nothing! If you perform too well or speak up, you will likely be bullied and treated badly. And you'll watch the 'suck ups' promoted rapidly. Senior leadership and HR are dodgy. The best people leave in disgust because they can get a job elsewhere. This leave the many who can't to perpetuate the culture. The leadership constantly talk about "being kind to one another" and yet I have never worked in a place where good people are treated so badly. Honestly, "be kind to yourself" and dodge this poisoned bullet.

Pros

Not much. flex leave (for Award employees only)

Cons

Toxic, bureaucratic, bullying culture that will NEVER change, Terrible leadership and dodgy, incompetent HR

Culture of harassment

As a typical government agency, if one wants to work here, S/he needs to be prepared to work with some Corporate Psychopaths in different levels. Bottom line is you need to work here if you enjoy the culture of intimidation, humiliation and harassment.

Pros

Work/life balance

Cons

Bullying and harassment

productive and a fun place to work

I worked at TfNSW for over 2 years on a temporary contract. My funding ended so i ended. I enjoyed looking after bus operator and making it a safe and reliable service for all the school students needing to use the bus service.

Fast paced and challenging. Constantly changing requiring flexibility and sound judgement

One of the most enjoyable and interesting places to work. Retiring old systems and introducing new technology into the Transport network where decisions affect how the general public interface with and utilize the biggest Transport network in the world.

A great place to work. A supportive culture and good work-life balance. Somewhat competitive however that only enhanced the work environment. Colleagues are knowledgeable and willing to help.

Challenging and fast paced

A challenging time to work there during big departmental changes, which made it a difficult environment. I would not want to comment on the situation now.

Work Life balanced.

Management is supportive and workplace culture is flexible. I get to learn new things at workplace. Team members are really helpful. I enjoy being a part of a big organization. It helped me to explore my capabilities and increased my responsibilities. The best part is, we can leave workplace as the time ends. A shift is never been lengthy for me.

Pros

Friendly environment

Cons

Additional work other than JD

Not great, poor management

Roles are very likely to go at any time, management is flakey and quite often make rash decisions which they need to fix two months down the line, most people are nice but much more money to be made elsewhere

Cons

Near Central

Overall is fair

Staff on Supervisory level tends to over exercise their authority. Overall environment is more or less calm with the rest of the general staff. Staff handling station duties are vulnerable and expose to abuse from public.

Transport IT

Pay is good but too many changes and restructures. Many people in roles they are not experienced in and job interviews do not follow due process and there is no accountability

My first working with Government and political " curved balls" was difficult to deal with

The hardest part of the day was trying to judge what was politically " correct" for that day, that week, that month. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with professional, outcome focused work colleagues
