Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWas all fantastic until Covid came and changed everything. I would have liked to have stayed a lot longer after my 1 year contract. Great work environment and a multicultural community of passionate people who worked as a team and supported each other.
Pros
Amazing history
Cons
Contractual

Fun although time consuming
School Crossing Supervisor (Former Employee) - Bondi Beach - 16 December 2022
I worked as a School Crossing Supervisor for Bondi Beach School for the last 3 months and I loved it! Everybody was lovely and very helpful! However, having to travel to the Beach twice a day (morning and afternoon) and back from the Beach twice a day was very tiring. The buses are always full in the morning and extremely full in the afternoon. The lollipop bat is also very heavy and difficult to manouvre by someone who is not very fit, like me! I will miss the children!
Pros
Children's smiles and staff support
Cons
Traveling time and having to go twice a day to the Beach and back on full buses

Great pay, fantastic customer initiatives, wonderful people, management don't know how to lead or inspire at team
Marketing Manager (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 10 May 2022
Demanding with management leading with a dictatorial approach. Lacks collaboration within teams and across departments. Management hired without real experience for that area.
Pros
Great people
Cons
Long hours, no gratitude from leaders

They are an excellent foot in the door.
School Crossing Supervisor (Current Employee) - Dubbo NSW - 12 March 2022
The job is an excellent foot in the door of the workforce. They are also really good to people who have medical issues. You are allowed to take on other work in addition to the school crossing role. As long as you talk to them about it and don't stuff them about.
Pros
most school holidays are paid time off
Cons
invest in good shoes I highly recommend work boots.

Political and awful
IT Support Officer (Former Employee) - North Sydney NSW - 15 February 2022
The efforts paid and the return were not equal. They recoginised the positive recommendations and great comments I received about my performance but politically offered the role to someone else while I had already been on the role for two years. They purposely did not pass my interview even though they knew my performance on job and was the best match for the job.
Pros
Benefits and perks
Cons
Extremely political. Restructure and redundancy can happen anytime and more than you expect

Jobs at Transport for NSW
Employed under temporary contract in a department that was about to become redundant.
Administration Assistant (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 11 January 2022
Organised and collaborative team of long term employees who were friendly and obviously worked well together. I joined the team in an admin capacity to catch up a backlog of work related to training records and compliance and found the system and processes familiar and easy to pick up with the support and training provided. To an outsider it seemed a shame that these employees were facing potential redundancy, rare to find "lifers" in government departments who still strive to go above and beyond.

Great team to work with
Licence Review Officer (Current Employee) - Grafton NSW - 8 January 2022
Extremely fast paced and repetitive work, it’s a great challenge. Learnt a great deal from how to process paperwork to phone roster with high call volumes with customer service centres and customers direct. On the spot autonomous decisions are required but higher level assistance and directives are always available. Downside it’s contract work and if you don’t work you don’t get paid. No sick leave or holidays.
Pros
Teamwork
Cons
Don’t work you don’t get paid

Shocking. By far the WORST place I have ever worked.
HR Manager (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 20 August 2020
Have you ever watched Utopia? This place is exactly like it but worse.
If not, just watch the nightly news to see all of the government incompetence, leadership backstabbing and deception and bungles and you'll get an idea of exactly what this place is like. This is Covid's hotel quarantine and Ruby Princess exemplified. And they get away with it.
Transport for NSW is a a terrible place where everything is fake and they talk the talk and don't walk the walk You would be horrified to see the way they waste your hard-earned tax payer dollar. Incompetence is everywhere and usually rewarded - people are constantly promoted beyond their level of competence. It's impossible to get things done, either because of the rules and policies or idiots in powerful positions who just don't want things to change. The place is overly political, risk-averse and process-oriented to the point of suffocation. No results / performance orientation whatsoever and yet ridiculously long hours - time spent doing a whole lot of nothing! If you perform too well or speak up, you will likely be bullied and treated badly. And you'll watch the 'suck ups' promoted rapidly. Senior leadership and HR are dodgy. The best people leave in disgust because they can get a job elsewhere. This leave the many who can't to perpetuate the culture.
The leadership constantly talk about "being kind to one another" and yet I have never worked in a place where good people are treated so badly. Honestly, "be kind to yourself" and dodge this poisoned bullet.
Pros
Not much. flex leave (for Award employees only)
Cons
Toxic, bureaucratic, bullying culture that will NEVER change, Terrible leadership and dodgy, incompetent HR

Culture of harassment
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 16 August 2020
As a typical government agency, if one wants to work here, S/he needs to be prepared to work with some Corporate Psychopaths in different levels. Bottom line is you need to work here if you enjoy the culture of intimidation, humiliation and harassment.
Pros
Work/life balance
Cons
Bullying and harassment

Big projects
Project Administrator & PA (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 23 June 2020
Working within a small team on big infrastructure projects was interesting, and at times very busy and pressured. However, the relationships and support between colleagues was excellent and therefore helpful during these times.
Pros
Free refreshments and nice working environment. Flexibility
Cons
Fixed term contract

Stakeholder Liaison - Fixed Solution (Former Employee) - Sydney Central Business District NSW - 8 May 2020
One of the most enjoyable and interesting places to work. Retiring old systems and introducing new technology into the Transport network where decisions affect how the general public interface with and utilize the biggest Transport network in the world.
