Contractor
I was a contractor that worked for various companies for DoD. I have condensed my various positions since I worked fourteen years straight supporting DoD projects. While I was NOT a DoD employee per se`, they were my client, so it's not too inaccurate to say I worked "for" them. They were paying a good cut of my salary. Anyways... The good: -exciting projects -decent benefits -travel (depending on position) -lots of upward mobility The bad: -uncertainty of contract; funding can run out without notice; world events can change the mission of your contract. In other words, (for example) just because you are on a five year contract don't meant they'll keep you that long -pay fluctuates When I started in the industry, I was fortunate to be in the same contract for the the first three years. Then the economy turned for the worse. After that initial three years, I seemed to work for a different company every years. :( Being a contractor can be a rewarding career. Just beware of the factors that can affect the contract you support.
