How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Victoria Police? What are the steps along the way?
There is a pre-recruitment course required, followed by application and a formal recruitment process.
Work life balance. Work a large variety of shifts, not necessarily two of the same in a row, nor have your rest days together. You can request shifts but there are normally no guarantees. Balance the rest of your life around that. Though nine weeks leave makes it all more bearable.
Though if desired and luck / nepotism is with you can work your way into one of the positions which have more regular hours.
Assorted depending on where you work, As a patrol officer at a police station generally 8 hour shifts 7am=3pm 3pm =11pm 11pm=7am. Some stations may vary 1 hr either way . Nights shifts generally minium of 4 nights but 7 nights is most common. But you do get 6 days off after a week of nights. On weekends there are additional shifts to cover busy periods Can be 6pm to 2am 7pm to 3am or 8 to 4am . Will also get occassional day shift to do paper work if your lucky 8am to 4pm or similar. Generally I found the people i worked with over 35+ years where great and I enjoyed my time Retired 2019. Policing is an ever changing world and you have to be prepared for that. Leave is good , Pay not bad and you have to fit in and be willing to compromise. You are part of a big work force . Don,t expect to get every weekend or Friday or sat off. But plan in advance and things generally work out.
