Use to be fun now it just stressful
Cabin Manager (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 12 May 2022
Great people but this job isn’t much fun . Long days for very little reward . You are expected to do alot for little pay . The crew are great but the pay is horrible . Staff travel is a great perk you just don’t have time to use it . Rosters are hard to swap / work life balance is hard to achieve . You will make life long friends .
Pros
Great people
Cons
Long hours

Fun work place and collaborative.
Flight Attendant (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 13 March 2022
It's what you make of it. What you put in is what you'll get out of it. No two days are same ever, you will meet people from all walks of life. Some willing to share there experiences and many who are guarded with walls, depending on your personality you will thrive at being all about safety whilst also bringing your fun loving and caring individuality.

Overworked and underpaid
Guest Service Agent (Former Employee) - Sydney Domestic Airport NSW - 21 January 2022
There is absolutely no career advancement (unless you consider moving from check-in to the service desk as advancement). Management are not qualified to lead and have their favourites who can get away with bludging while the hard workers get hammered. The company has not invested in systems so there are regular breakdowns and passengers then miss their flights. Staff are not trained to deal with disruptive days such as poor weather which causes flight delays. Just chaos of a company! No wonder they went into voluntary administration!
Pros
The dedicated ones who continue to work through problems mentioned.
Cons
4am starts, especially in Winter. Staff parking is away from the airport, so you have to wait for the Blu Emu shuttle bus, which adds at least 20mins to your journey (to allow for traffic and in case you’ve just missed it).

Pretty good job for what it is, just wasn't for me
Customer Service Agent (Current Employee) - Tullamarine VIC - 5 December 2021
Make sure you can handle 4am starts, grumpy passengers, equipment breaking and hit/miss management. There are some perks to this role, for sure, but you have to love aviation and high pressure environments if you want to stay in this role long term.
Pros
Good culture, everyone was supportive
Cons
Long hours

Cant comment. Never seen or heard any activities apart from Staff Christmas Party.
Customer Service Officer (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 14 June 2021
Not a bad place to work for new starters or someone who comes from a very basic educational background and not willing to upgrade or learn too much for his growth. One can move parallel and get some different types of experience and add extra $, rest subject to an individual's expectations. Promotions can take a lot longer than expected, no matter how qualified or experienced you are in the same kind of work in other places. Considering the above aspects, if someone likes to meet and greet many different types of people with a bit of a fast-paced working environment. Virgin is a place to go and it's not a bad place compared to many others.
Pros
I don't think so, if there werwe any, may get 5% to 10% discount on food in Airport terminal.
Cons
Job security & growth can be some issues for an ambitious person.

Great company and people
Guest Services Supervisor and Customer Experience Manager (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 8 December 2020
The best culture and people. Always felt supported and really miss this position. COVID redundancies really affected aviation and so many people in it. Very sad times for such an awesome company.
Pros
Supportive leadership and fantastic culture
Cons

Enjoyable but stressful
Lead Crew Controller (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 15 September 2020
Working in the Operations Control Centre is great. It's an extremely stressful environment but rewarding and enjoyable if you can manage the high workload.

A brilliant airline who treat their staff very well in deed
Cabin Crew (Former Employee) - Perth WA - 24 July 2020
I would recommend anyone wishing to work as cabin crew to work for Virgin Australia. You need to be aware that commencing salaries are under $40 k per year including overnights. However the staff travel benefits for you and direct family members are very generous.
Pros
staff travel benefits and extremely generous
Cons
long hours, unhealthy environment long term flying in an aliminum tube

Fast Paced Environment with a great team
Sales Manager (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 16 June 2020
The opportunities and job satisfaction often depends on the direct manager. Many managers have their own agenda and you have to fight for being heard. There is little direction in some departments as the departmental strategy is unclear or underdeveloped. However, the camaraderie in the VA team is fantastic. There is ability to work from home and be flexible when it comes to family and school pick ups. There is little development for new managers on how to ensure their teams are engaged. Personal development is up to the individual. Developing your skills is not a priority for the company. Overall they are a great company and the new CEO has taken a great interest in employee satisfaction and engagement.
Pros
Travel credits, flexible work arrangements, team culture
Cons
Missing departmental strategy, little ability to upskill, red tape

Outstanding vibe
Manager Cabin Crew (Leader Crew Development) (Former Employee) - Brisbane - 21 May 2020
VA is an incredible company that has suffered from poor leadership from the last CEO. The people at VA are second to none and they deserve to be lead by a great leader.

Great place to work with fantastic like minded people
Cabin Crew (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 11 May 2020
Virgin culture really is something exceptional. I have worked for them 17 years and still enjoy my job. Encourage anyone who has a love for aviation, a strong customer service background and enjoys working as part of a team to apply.

Fast paced
Baggage Handler/Leading Hand (Current Employee) - Sydney NSW - 7 May 2020
No two days are the same at all. Each day is unique and different. Through out the day the work load does vary but is very consistent. There’s a lot of communication that needs to be done between all departments to ensure the set tasks are met.
