Enjoyed the morning shift roster

Indeed Featured review

Work life balance because of fixed morning roster, friendly staff, enjoy access to library 24 hours a day. Some stuff I know are working for 30 plus years since arriving in Australia

Decent Co-workers, but...

...Management is generally apathetic. Some of the radiographers make a point to do as little as humanly possible during each shift. You have to pay for parking, and the traffic in and out of the hospital is notorious.

Good co-workers but poor management

I love working with my team, but senior and exec management are not focussed on patient care, just on meeting KPIs. I understand they have to be, but they forget why we are all here

Productive workplace

When I was doing my 3-week placement in Westmead Hospital, I have learned a lot of things related to health care to an elderly patients. Staffs and the Nurse Unit Manger were so approachable. If I ask questions, they explain to me clearly and properly.

Working at Westmead

Westmead hospital public is a fast paced highly organised working place that values good honest work and capable minds. The supervisors, other nurses, staff are mostly respectful despite the incredible stress that they may be under. The work culture and ethics working with the orderlies are fantastic and something to look forward to. It’s a worthwhile job and is rewarding to work in the community this way.

the worst experience

unfortunately working at westmead was a horrible experience. There was an extreme amount of bullying both from peers and management; a great deal of unfairness and I believe there are many people who work there among the nursing staff who have mental health/anger control issues. Unfortunately the theatre can be a very confronting and strange environment and after some time could possibly affect one's state of mind long term. The doctors/surgeons were generally wonderful and very professional however.

Pros

salary packaging

Cons

the nursing culture

Working at westmead

i started many years ago and when i first started it was awesome. The management was great to its employees work culture was great. However as time went on so did alot of changes. Job security became threat, which should never be the case in government and your doing your job. Managers being allocated with no management skills and didnt understand how to take the approach to a employee and the culture started to fall that was all happening in my last 5 years at westmead which was very sad because i thought i was going to stay there forever. I got made redundant there, but hope to go back very soon in another department.

Pros

Working for government, benefits

Cons

travel time

Interesting and welcoming.

I was on work experience for 5 days and was able to get a deeper insight into the work environment of a hospital through the lens of a nurse. I was able to understand the roles and responsibilities associated with a career in nursing as well as the rewards of working cooperatively with a team.

Westmead Hospital

As a receptionist I worked on front counters face to face with the clients as well as computer work and behind the scenes in the filing room. It was a busy work environment team work a must while meeting personal deadlines for the company.

Wonderful place

They provide free lunches. Great place to start volunteering and move to permanent opportunities. Kind and pleasant people to work with. Provides good reference if volunteered sincerely.

Good place to work

Being casual has it ups and done. You can choose your hours but you are place in different wards every shift and sometimes place in a ward that is very stressful.

A very busy hospital

I enjoyed working at Westmead Hospital. I had a great NUM and most of my colleagues were lovely, although there were a lot of Filipino nurses there and whist I was working there some of them would give handover in Filipino which was very wrong as I am not Filipino. The only issue apart from that was that I had to travel a long distance to get there each shift.

Pros

I learnt a lot

Cons

The long commute

Good learning environment and supportive staffs.

As I was at Westmead hospital for my clinical placement , I enjoyed every bit of it. The staffs were great with teaching and really took out time to ensure the students were learning something and were actually benefitting from the placement.
