Not bad for first job, just unlucky

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It was a great first job, made lots of friends, and developed a lot of social skills with customers. Working at Woolworths helped my customer service skills and taught me about work culture and such. One thing that made it a hard place, was the management. When I say they were shocking, they were.

Pros

Good selection of food for break, discount and good team members

Cons

Long hours, very little pay, treated worse if younger than others

Decent place to work

I liked working here. In my opinion it's a great first job for anyone looking to get into the work force. Very flexible with hours working around school

Fast paced nice people

Fast paced nice people and good penalties. Bad employee turnover can get stressful. Independent work have to be very fast paced and could get repetitive.

Relaxed when it wasn’t busy, when it was it could become fast paced and stressful

Worked in the deli, when it was a slow day everything was relaxed and generally pretty easy to do daily duties, when it was busy if you weren’t working with someone competent you were in for a heck of a ride, leaving you to do most the work attend customers while they idly cruise through the shift. Management was ok, they didn’t say anything to workers that were underperforming, had favourites so on

fun place to work and supportive management

Great place to work I really enjoyed all the team benefits specially the 50% discount in all ALH venues. The management has been supportive on work transition and family emergencies.

Under staffed and stressful

Every department in every store seem to be having the same issue with understaffing -and unreliable staff- which is very very stressful on everyone

Great experience as a first job.

Great first job. learnt the good and the bad about working customer service. Worked with a lot of great people and had some memorable experiences with customers. Only bad thing about working there was management kinda sucked. There were some annoying supervisors with a god complex.

Pros

Good co-workers.

Cons

Management.

Good company to work for, good work life balance.!

I worked for the Byron Bay Woolworths and it was an overall good experience.I had a good work life balance, and the managers were flexible with changing shifts etc.

Pros

Tea room, free fruit, supportive managers.

Cons

Rude customers (but that’s every customer service job).

Worst culture ever

If you don't sleep your way around the company you don't get promoted. To many managers have been around to long and it's just certain families running the area.

Great place to work

Many different tasks to learn, good stable job and you can work with a variety of people. You can also work in nightfill, the bakery, deli and even online shopping.

Hated it

The manager was not great, employees were awesome though. Doesn't approve time off when needed time off, worked hard but didn't get to switch around the roles, worked always in one position with no breaks

Work elsewhere, thank me later.

They used to be good to work for, but now after bringing in the Vax mandate they're very obviously part of the globalist agenda - avoid them at all costs, they don't care about staff wellbeing in the slightest.

great for developing good customer service with people from different backgrounds.

A very friendly place to work.I was happy to have the opportunity to be part of the team. Learning a new skill, meeting more experienced coworkers was also a valuable experience.

Management are terrible

The clear favoritism in the workplace is disgusting. You are treated like a robot. Your picks are timed and if you don’t reach that time, management tend to not give you shifts. You’re picked on about the packing standards. They time your breaks and will tell you off if you’re 1 minute over. Line managers are horrible. You’re not allowed to talk to anyone at all and you’re just expected to work as fast as possible. Line managers pick on you about absolutely everything. They walk throughout the isles and tell you off if you stop for one second. They walk around the isles and hide around corners waiting to tell you off for something. They have clear favorites in the team and they make life easy for them while making life absolute misery for other workers. Line managers take in how many times you go to the toilet and will even follow you into the toilet to tell you off about it. (You tend to go toilet a bit more when you’re in a cold setting for so long)
