Cons
some casuals over 18 can be a bit hard getting more work out of thema, but you have to be persistant and keep harrassing them for more work, also looking online for different positions available

A Great Starter Job if You Love People
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Melbourne VIC21 April 2019
It's a great starter job if you like working with customers and people and if you like being very organised.
Teamwork is a key aspect to the job as everyone learns from each other and work together esp. on busy days and you will take on different tasks, i.e. registers, packing, inventory or collecting the trolleys, etc.
Two days will never be the same as you will see many customers coming back to you each week to ask you for different things such as where to buy a $1 reusable bags, cigarettes, canned fruit and which aisle the frozen hash browns are kept- - that will give your memory a workout!!!
On the registers, cash handling skills are important and accuracy maintained or have angry customers' on your back.
Customer complaints will happen, ask your manager for more help or details relating to difficult customer's problems. Don't be afraid, that is all a part of it!
The only downside to this career is that most workers are only
part-time/or casually employed which only really suits the student. If you're not a student you will prob. most definitely need to find another job to sustain your income.
Pros
People Job, use cash register, fun, meet new people, work with good managers and staff
Cons
Part time, casual employment only, difficulty balancing your life if you are oncall, low wage

Work Experience Student (Former Employee) –  Melbourne VIC12 April 2019
working at Woolworths was fun, everyone was very nice and always happy. I was able to learn how to work in the bakery section, this was quite fun, I was able to communicate with the people in this area and they gave me advice about school and work life.

Cashier (Former Employee) –  falcon WA11 April 2019
I was employed as casual and enjoyed my time at woolies. However, unfortunately as Masters went into liquidation, woolies brought in those employees who lost their jobs. I, as mentioned being casual and others were the first to be terminated. It was very disappointing but understandable.
Apart from that it was very enjoyable - customer service relationships, nice clean staff amenities and a good OIC.

Toxic culture
Department Assistant (Former Employee) –  Brisbane, Australia7 April 2019
Free overtime culture is rife. Workers are somewhat bullied into working more than their required hours, and are not paid to do so. The reliability of the job is the reason why the vast majority of employees stay.

Lots of standing
Service cashier (Former Employee) –  Carlingford NSW1 April 2019
A lot of standing, my legs hurt a lot after a while. Shifts are generally pretty short (around 5 hours with a 10 minute break). Could be quite boring at times.

The nightfill hours are hard to do over and over again 5 nights a week. The work is hard but good as it keeps you thinking and is physically demanding.
