Unhappy with my entire experience at Woolworths

I worked at Woolworths In Kadina for approximately 15 years and completed my Butcher Apprenticeship. Upon leaving after this time, after giving my 2weeks notice. Managers, work colleagues and even area managers did not even thank me or congratulate me on my time in this company. Not that I expected anything at all, but even a $20 gift card or a chocolate bar or even a can of Coke would have been much appreciated. Overall my experience working at Woolworths was not a pleasant one!.

Fun with the right people

Opportunity to grow and gain more responsibility. Lots of fun if the management is chill otherwise forget it. A typical day includes serving on registers , self checkout , online orders.

Very hard company to please You can have record sales one week that have been seen before. But management tells you you can do better next week. They once had a bonus system for each fresh food department to achieve. If your department didn't achieve it then no bonus for your department, the departments that achieved it got a bonus Then the goal post's were moved again, every fresh food department had to achieve it other wise no one got a bonus Then they moved the post's even further back, the whole store had to achieve a target that was very hard to achieve It didn't matter how hard that I worked, if one department didn't reach their goal then no one got a bonus Grrrr

Great coworkers, great hours

Coworkers were fantastic, job is fairly simple & easy to get a hold of. Customers are lovely. The hours were great & I enjoyed my time here very much.

Would be different at various supermarkets and also friends on the personality of your managers.

Had several different managers at different times. Managers come & go quickly sadly. Some were amazing & others not so much.I turned up for every shift but quite often as I worked weekends, others would not, so we were short staffed often which put pressure on getting work done in a shorter time frame. Always getting pushed to go harder & faster .. we’re only human. A lot of pressure to fill shelves extremely fast with a minimum wage including sore, tired, muscles not to mention cuts and hands getting bashed on shelving.

Pros

Free lunches on special occasions if it’s within your particular shift when there.

Cons

Staff shortages. Manager rudeness. Go go go.

Good workplace culture but poor management at times.

Very laid back in terms of the tasks to be completed as part of your work. Expect to be called everyday being asked to fill in for other people. Inconsistent rostering for casual employees.

Pros

Staff discount

Cons

Inconsistent hours

Great Work Experience

- excellent work experience in management - great work employees that made working there positive - cared about our wellbeing - at breaks, they provided us with fresh fruit and sometimes snacks - when first learning about cashier and customer service other employees were very supportive as well as managers - hardest part of the job is unpredictable customers

Great place to work for first job

A great introduction in to the work force. Management were very flexible with work hours and fitting in with study. A great culture at the store I worked at.

Great for those starting out

Great company for a first job, gives great opportunities for you to interact with sectors that keep the store running. Staffing can be short at times however.

Fun workplace with good staff

You have your own job your department manager tells you at the start of your work, also there's different departments. Fruit and Veg is the best. The rest is pretty basic

Great first job

One of the best jobs I’ve had and such a good company to work for. They look after their employees, give you all the right breaks and are very fair with annual leave.

A great and cool place with friendly customers.A bit too fast but great workers and good flexible hours. Nice store, too many people however like to shop there. Would recommend for first time job applicants

Good place to start and earn some extra money

Team is really supportive, always ready to help. Overall, it is fun to work there, but some challenges happen such as dealing with annoyed customers. Pay is avarage for the cashier job with working loads on weekends, evening shifts.

lack of integrity

Many Very senior National management have the commitment and integrity to put forward ideas and plans for the company HOWEVER, as these initiatives are given to subordinates down the chain, they are delivered, implemented and monitored by individuals that do not understand the vision, carry out their tasks without consideration and / or cannot help but see their own path and disregard any that do not fit their plan. Honesty, integrity, trust were a driver at one stage but these values together are no longer the Woolworths way, sadly

Mentally Draining

This company has no regard for its workers despite the things they say. A new rostering system has started in the shops which is causing many, many problems which has led to mass demoralization across the country. I have no experienced anything like this in the 7 years I have worked here. This has caused resignations. They are wanting new people in to replace those who have left because they are unaware of the RT3 system. This is why you're seeing many job openings. An extremely toxic environment created by upper management which directly affects everyone below.Understaffed & extremely underpaid, people don't take their ENTITLED breaks so they can get the work done an appease upper management.Avoid if you can.

Poor treatment of management

Management were made to do a lot more hours then honestly should be required of one person in a week. The work life balance was poor - called in on my days off because “I was the manager”. Even keeping up with stock filling and customer service was unrealistic- it would be realistic if I could wiggle my nose and the job was done but i don’t have those capabilities; so it was super stressful all the time.

Pros

They supply coffee and tea

Cons

The job itself. And upper management.
