Great experience as a first job.

Indeed Featured review

Great first job. learnt the good and the bad about working customer service. Worked with a lot of great people and had some memorable experiences with customers. Only bad thing about working there was management kinda sucked. There were some annoying supervisors with a god complex.

Pros

Good co-workers.

Cons

Management.

Great place to work

Many different tasks to learn, good stable job and you can work with a variety of people. You can also work in nightfill, the bakery, deli and even online shopping.

Great workplace for students however management is bad.

I have been working at Woolworths for over 6 years at a few different stores. The job is great if you are a student and it’s great for learning customer service skills and interacting with others. However, management is usually full of politics and this can really effect motivation to work there. You have to say yes to all shifts otherwise you’ll be in the bad books with the managers. Management always pick their “favourites” and make it very obvious. No matter how hard you work they will never truly appreciate it. Pros: customer service skills, customer interaction and discount card.Cons: politics, horrible management at any store and favouritism.

High work expectations but minimum wages. Too much politics.

Poor management in every store I worked. Too much grouping and back biting. Excessive work load for those who works. You need to make managers happy all the time, but they will not value you at all.

Pros

Nothing but 5% team discount

Cons

Everything except 5% team discount

Disorganised

Under paid, looked down upon by customers, given shifts with minimal notice, no predictability as a casual, lose 25% casual loading if put on part time and pay becomes sad

Work here only if you are desperate for a job and can cope with being belittled by power crazy supervisors and management that does not care.

Culture is highly punitive. They wait for you to do something and then tell you that is wrong and zap you negatively belittling you … they don’t tell you the right thing upfront so you can avoid making mistakes. Management has no listening skills whatsoever! They assume they are always right. Customers are not their priority … no one cares about service and long queues etc It’s all about the money, money, money!

Pros

Snacks in the staff tea room

Cons

Poor management, negative punitive culture, unhappy staff, power focused, arrogant towards customers.

Okay

It was okay if you like standing at a register for 5 hours. Didn’t receive proper training so was always asking seniors how to do certain tasks. Expected to know how to do things you’ve never done before, or given the most simple of instructions. Otherwise an okay place for work as a teenager.

Pros

Okay hours for teenager

Cons

No movement for register staff

Ok place to work at

I did not mind working at this place, terrible paycheck though and a bit of a toxic work environment. They should have more room for growth within the company, to be honest

An Excellent First Job Experience or Second Income Job. Also Opportunities for Career Advancement if Wanted.

A typical day depends on what department you work in. Some are customer-facing, ie. Checkouts, Deli, while others are not so much, eg. Grocery, nighfill (organising stock and putting it on shelves), Produce Dept, Online, Office. Workplace culture is generally good and I like that you work with people who's ages may span from 15 to 70 years old. Most roles within the store are fast-paced and it is very regimented, ie. every minute counts. eg. if you have a 15 min break, you are expected to be back to work after 15 mins. Sometimes the demands can be unrealistic and dept managers are under the pump to ensure their staff make sure they are met. Mostly only management have full-time hours. Most team start off as casuals and may eventually be offered part-time work (sometimes this can be as low as only 10hrs per week, and are treated as casuals if they want extra shifts - but these extra shifts are only paid at the lower, part-time rate, despite being ad hoc). Staff are expected to be flexible, but it works both ways, as the company are generally also flexible when the employee needs them to be too. eg. swapping shifts with someone else if required.Pay is great for casuals, but terrible for part-timers. It is good for a first job, or for a parent wanting to earn some extra money as a second income. Once you know how to do a job within the organisation, you can work anywhere, as the stores are all over Australia. It would be good if they put more time and money into training of new team members.

Pros

Flexibility, Stores are everywhere, so skills learnt are easily transferable anywhere in the country, Casual rates are excellent, Pay is weekly, Staff discounts, Management encourage a friendly, professional work environment, Friendly, down to earth workmates

Cons

Training is rushed and inadequate, Short staffing sometimes, Hours offered may be too low for costs of living, Part-time hourly rate is low, Some people may find standing on their feet for hours at a time, or heavy lifting, difficult, Dealing with rude/abusive customers sometimes

Hours can be difficult

I do like working for Woolworths but the the hours and pay isn’t good, the bosses and mangers can be rude and do not acomadate you well at all when you have kids and a family to look after

Pros

Easy work

Cons

Long hours on your feet

Was a very fun and great place to work. Met some of the greatest people/customers that I’ll cherish forever!

I loved working for this company a lot and made many friends. They are very good with work life balance. But since they have mandated the vaccine I have left the company as I think it’s horrible that they have made us choose a job over a medical procedure. Best 7 years i spent with this company, I am very sad to leave.

productive workplace

Had a number of tasks to do and would often be working on several tasks at once and always ensure that everything was done. It was hectic but i thrived on the adrenaline rush of managing all my responsibilities and delivering results.

Pros

fun co workers

Cons

short hours

Good workplace, not so good pay

Good work place, not so good pay Friendly team but sometimes hours get cut often with little notice as a casual. Shifts are often suited to what you prefer but very hard to get guaranteed hours.

Pros

Friendly team

Cons

Unpaid meal breaks

Good experience work for your first job

Can be very demanding at times even if your're a student either in highschool or Uni, however it pays off with all the skills you learn. You meet a lot of new type of people, the good and the bad (this includes both customers and staff).

Pros

Supportive team

Cons

Stressful

Good entry level into customer service.

Great team to work with. Busy environment. Large corporation. Realistic introduction into balancing customer expectations in a client facing role. Give it a go 😊

The company is micromanaged so expect that the frustrations of the managers to be eventually be directed at you.

Great job security. Poor culture. If you don’t fit in expect to be ostracised by your co-workers. Staff are mostly friendly. Sometimes the degradation of being an outcast is brutally apparent.

Pros

Job security.

Cons

Cliques within departments and management. Your are just a number.

Casual team member

Not enough shifts but they hire people all the time. As casual, I only get 3 hours per shift.. and they only give me 2 days in a week work. Cant really earn much but the job isnt very stressful. As casual, I know they cant guarantee me hours but 6 hours a week is barely anything to live by.

Pros

Nice co-workers

Cons

Not enough shifts given and they hire people constantly

fast-paced workplace with great pay for casual

it's a good place to start working for students with no prior experience, the manager and supervisor are nice. The best part about the job is meeting wonderful customers.

Pros

free snacks, good flexibility working hours

Cons

a little bit stressful

Customer Service

Woolies is decent for an entry level role into working. It offers decent pay as a casual and hours are relatively easy to come by, especially if you make yourself available often.

Pros

discount on products, free uniform

Cons

repetitive, some customers
