Supportive workplace
Team Member (Former Employee) - Yarraville VIC - 30 May 2022
A great team environment to work in, lots of training and support from management. Friendly co-workers and friendly regular customers. Could get busy and fast-paced but there were always enough team members rostered to share the work
Pros
Great early career or first job
Cons
Not enough shifts

Great Beginner Job
Woolworths Team Member (Current Employee) - Ballajura WA - 25 May 2022
Woolworths is an excellent job for someone with a little spare time and no experience. The wages are low for students ( $11.34/hr for 16 year olds and under. ) but penalty rates make up for it. Usually shifts will be created in a way where the company can avoid giving you a break. (eg. 3 hours and 45 minute shifts with no break instead of 4 hour shifts with a 15 minute break.) Overall I enjoy it, it can be really busy on weekends but weekday afternoons are really slow and relaxing so you won’t be on a checkout the entire time.
Pros
5% Discount with a 10% discount on one purchase a month. Great penalty rates.
Cons
Low base wages, sometimes management isn’t great, the job can be quite boring (standing at the same checkout for almost 4 hours straight.)

Cons
No support when short staffed

Not bad for first job, just unlucky
Team Member (Former Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 23 May 2022
It was a great first job, made lots of friends, and developed a lot of social skills with customers. Working at Woolworths helped my customer service skills and taught me about work culture and such. One thing that made it a hard place, was the management. When I say they were shocking, they were.
Pros
Good selection of food for break, discount and good team members
Cons
Long hours, very little pay, treated worse if younger than others

Management sucks
Woolworths Team Member (Current Employee) - Perth WA - 2 May 2022
Woolworths is a place to work if you’d love getting tricked into part time pay and no hours. Management are bullies and pick favourites, customers abuse you and the pay is the worst ever. Just don’t work there
Pros
None
Cons
Bullying

Good hours, but no variety
Team Member (Former Employee) - New South Wales - 2 May 2022
Had good hours even for a casual which I was grateful for. However, I was always made to do the same thing every shift, rarely worked in other areas of front end, always on large registers. Rosters were done 2 weeks in advance but they'd change or add shifts without asking which was hard for work/life balance.
Pros
Hours, friendly team members, always busy
Cons
Management sometimes spoke down to you, and didn't like when you stood up for yourself and your rights

Nice place
Fresh team Member (Current Employee) - Townsville QLD - 25 April 2022
I am almost 3 years work at Woolworths. As immigrant with English my second language, it’s challenging for me to adapt every new thing at the store. Early first month, I didn’t have enough hour, so I asked my manager for more work hour. Then she put more hours and then now I am part time permanent. I am so grateful have a great team at deli. They’re all accepting my as they’re team and family. Not always smooth but we are good team. Thank you Woolworths for opportunity for me as your team work.
Pros
Every Christmas, Easter and Mother’s Day always get chocolate 🍫… so appreciate about these.

Jobs at Woolworths Supermarket
Team Member positionsFriendly coworkers but management is a hit or miss
Team Member (Former Employee) - Carnegie VIC - 11 April 2022
Setting up deli but the more you work, the more they want out of you for same pay, to the point of doing 2ic work as a team member. Ended up doing some temporary manager duties because we had none no fresh con manager for a few weeks. Coworkers are nice and friendly but can be lazy/do whatever they want because there is no punishment or followup besides a talking to. Managers lack info on what happens in each department

Entirely dependent on who your Managers are.
Team member (Current Employee) - One of the Stores in Darwin - 12 February 2022
My entire experience at this company has overall been a good one, with a steady amount of shifts for the most part. Of course, this is dependent on how competent/fair your managers are. I've had managers that were too easygoing and the lack of leadership created numerous leadership related issues. I had a manager who couldn't be bothered doing their tasks and delegated them to me, only to complain that I didn't get them done, despite the deadlines passing before delegation. A typical day at work is often irritating as you need to constantly bring up cleaning as you go, because most people will just leave waste/trolleys lying around, even in a fresh food department. They have one specific role called "safety Team leader" which they don't cost in, (unlike literally every other job or role) yet you'll be expected to just make time for.
Pros
- Depending on how proactive your store manager is, birthdays, special holidays and other events are remembered and celebrated by the team, - Despite the Government deciding to scrap retail and hospitality penalty rates, you still get paid penalty rates, - Considered essential work
Cons
- Casually being threatened with dismissal, because as a salary worker you signed out a little too late or worked a little more, all the usual cons that come with working in retail

Heartbroken waisted to many years.
Team Member (Former Employee) - Bundaberg QLD - 30 January 2022
Toxic customers, toxic management, toxic environment, not a good place to work at all they don’t wanna see you progress. The more toxic the manager the better.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Mental health destroyed, anxiety issues, toxic work environment.

The staff are nice but management can be better
Woolworths Team Member (Current Employee) - Penrith NSW - 21 January 2022
As said the staff are nice but management and wage cuts seriously need to be looked at. And they don’t follow deep cleaning Covid protocols it is expected of staff to clean

Alright place to work at but management needs work
Fruit and Veg Team Member (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 14 January 2022
Working at Woolworths Supermarkets was an okay experience however my boss/manager couldn’t take into account that I was in my final year of high school and required time off to study for important exams which lead to me quitting.
