Fun workplace

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
A decent workplace for students or young people to grow a strong work ethic whilst also being exposed to the ins and outs of the day to day operations of a retailer.

slow

slow paced. management never actually cared about staff. no way of advancing in career as management only cared about brown nosers. never actually offered any support to workers.

Good workplace if you can put up with management and occasional rude customers

Pros - good hours and pay, the co-workers really make or break a shift, 5% staff discountCons - can get quite overworked if your department is understaffed, resulting in annoyed customers (most are understanding though), management was an ordeal, especially if you want to go to a different department

long hours and tough Worklife balance

It's a fun job if you have the right team, otherwise it's pretty tough. Anti social hours makes it hard to have any work life balance unfortunately. Starting salary packages are decent though

Lovely

Great culture and the people are lovley. Management is great and supportive. I miss working there.not too much pressure on pallets and getting the load up and even if you don’t you won’t get into trouble.

Good to make friends

Can be repetitive and deal with occasional rude customers, however good people to work with. Hours are pretty flexible with (can go from short shifts to long ones)

Lovely and peaceful environment

Great, active work with a well organised team, time flew by with business. Really enjoyable job and lovely hard working colleagues. Satisfactory conditions and payment

The only thing I liked was the friends that I made whilst I was there.

One of the worst companies I have ever worked for. The store manager had no idea what he was doing most of the time, used to share issues that he had with team members with others, talked about people behind their backs to other team members, didn’t like confrontation so wouldn’t deal with issues with team members. Constantly cutting back staff to save $$ so people were doing much more than their share of work whilst others did very little. No such thing as sticking up for team members when there was issues with rude customers, I often saw customers receive gift cards and flowers even though they were in the wrong. Store security is lacking so team members are having to do the job of security. The list goes on, I would not recommend Woolworths to my worst enemy!!

Pros

The staff discount

Cons

Great company to work for

I worked in this company for one year and I can only say good things about it. Great managers. Good job conditions. Good life-work balance. Good salary. Definitely one of the best companies in Australia.

The opposite of productive and fun!

The biggest multibillion dollar profiting company in Australia, running/burning all their staff to the ground! not just in any particular store its all of them!! from the redundancies in 2018 all the way to this new slashing staff budgets in half situation!! it has put a major stress load on the staff that have survived and still remain in the company!! $1.30 payrise though yay!! i wonder where the money for this is going to be cut out of. everyone needs more than therapy from this company, they need a trauma payout aswell as a bws giftcard that will buy you more than a lousy 4 pack of smirnoffs.

OK for Casual job

As a casual, whenever the management change my hours change dramatically as they do not like to give shifts to casuals and rather part timers. Upper management never care about the wellbeing of others and can be quite hypocritical where they hold employees to very high standards whilst doing barely the bare minimum themselves. I have learnt to just work at my own comfortable pace rather than breaking my back as you will not be rewarded or recognised and do not get paid any more.

Pros

Good entry level job

Cons

lack of care from management and unreliable hours

Not bad.

Pays well but the job is heavy at times and repeatitive. It wouldn’t be so bad if people get rotated fairly.Instead of you on pick all the time and others doing less than you can get frustrating.

Very productive and good team work

Day to day tasks included cleaning, cooking, slicing meats and cheeses and helping customers. It was a good environment and friendly team. We had good regular customers who are a delight, but you'll always have rude ones too (which is tolerable). Team work is good, no one slacked off much. There will always be staff that gossip behind your back, but it's something you ignore and don't care about eventually. Other than that, it becomes very busy and stressful during festive seasons. But other days are so boring and quiet.

Amazing people working for a horrible corporate structure

Woolworths is an awesome first job and even has great scope for a career. I would say that 70% of all employees are awesome and can easily make life long friends. However, management is horrendous. I mean it is like working for a feudal lord. The human store managers get destroyed personally and emotionally by their district managers. So you usually end up with jerks just surviving as your boss. The line managers are generally great. Really friendly and understanding. They are rocking like 60 hour weeks though and getting paid for 40 hours. It is a microcosm of how to destroy peoples mental health.

Pros

Awesome work culture at the low level. Easy to get additional responsibilies and learn basic skills

Cons

Horrible corporate management, a system designed to exploit and illegally destory peoples health and wellbeing

Okay environment

Nice break rooms and environment. Good pay for casualsAs a larger corporation good working practices. Customers are awful but that is common across the board

average

The job is monotonous but the pay more than average as you're working late night. It does a toll on your back . Not suitable for a long term career. But the job is mentally stressless

Underappreciated

Little hope of career progression unless you're besties with the management. Do more than your fair share of the work and receive zero thanks or recognition. Toxic culture with many staff employed at the same store for far too long. Most managers preferring to sit in back offices having a chat than be on the shop floor coaching and leading their team by example. Good job in order to learn life skills and practice customer service. Wouldn't recommend as a career.

Busy and on the go

The workplace is nice but it gets really busy sometimes. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done especially during the closing time. Opening time is leas hectic
