Great salary for retail, still not worth all the stress

Good salary for retail management but terrible work environment, my mental health deteriorated and I never had issues with it before my time there. You think as a customer the service is bad but it's only that bad because people are mentally exhausted from what is going on behind the scenes and can't focus on their jobs on the shop floor. Upper management almost pits store workers against each other to create a snobby catty environment.

Hard to fit in when you are new

People there can be cliquey to newbies, management doesn’t seem to care either. If you can focus on your work then it shouldn’t be a big problem. Customers can be rude and very demanding even during busy hours

Too much stress

At Zara I found management setting unattainable goals for the amount of time and staff they had. There was immense amounts of stress put along employees to reach these goals which they never would.

Pros

Team Christmas partys

Cons

High levels of stress

Rewarding and Experience-Filled

Zara has an excellent workplace culture, similar to a family. They will help you learn a lot and give you tasks and responsibilities suited to your strengths.

The only good thing was the other staff members.

Right off the bat working at ZARA is difficult because they give you next to no training and reprimand you if you don’t get tasks done that you don’t even know how to complete. The management at the QUEEN STREET store provide you with constant critiscism but no way to improve. No consideration is given to your personal life or commitments outside of work and you will be terminated if you don’t follow every single step given to you by management and jump through every hoop. If you’re hired by them don’t expect to be working in a position you want to be in for long, people are always leaving and there is always a gap they need to fill. Pay was average, every shift was 9 hours long which was exhausting and they would make you finish at 9pm one night and start the next day at 8 am which I’m pretty sure is illegal.... all in all, the ONE redeeming factor was a few handpicked people that made it bearable. The literal WORST job I have ever had, hands down.

Cons

Awful management

Worst treatment from managers EVER

They work you like a dog and show zero gratitude or appreciation for the work that you do. The management at the Queen Street store are immature and pretentious. They expect too much from their employees.
