Great people and great product
Operations Engineer (Current Employee) –  Madison, WI8 September 2018
As an engineer, there is something for everyone here. Technically interesting work is hard to miss. The people are awesome and have a great attitude. There are high performance expectations, but *not* by sacrificing work-life balance. It's a global company and video conference meetings are common. Zendesk is not a place to be sleepy, it's a lively work environment.
Pros
Fun, benefits, great people
Cons
Open office

Fun place to work, but communication problems
Project Manager (Former Employee) –  San Diego, CA18 June 2018
If you're looking for a fun place to work, an easy work/life balance, and free lunches, Zendesk is the place for you. Overall their friendly, charitable culture is very successful and they are passionate about both the community and their employees.

However, there is a lack of communication across teams and egos involved.

The veil has been lifted
Manager (Current Employee) –  Madison, WI15 May 2018
This is a great place to work. Great culture and people. It's also changing quickly to meet the goal of being a $1bn company by 2020. Emphasis has shifted, understandably, to the bottom line. New leadership touts transparency but doesn't follow through. Sales goals keep rising, and product teams keep delivering, but support suffers.
Pros
So many perks
Cons
Unlimited time off isn't really unlimited, you end up not taking as much than if you had a set amount of days available.

Great workplace environment
Internship (Former Employee) –  Paddington, Greater London15 May 2018
A friendly environment where work and social life are balanced. The employees work closely together and the social events help meet employees in other departments.
Many charity events are help too which boosts the morale of the employees.

A great internship experience
Intern (Former Employee) –  London12 May 2018
During my internship, I spent the morning learning what changes to my excel spreadsheets had to be made. The first task was to inapt this changes and then check them over. The afternoon, was spent converting these calculations into more visual information, e.g. charts. My manager gave me clear and achievable tasks that were time-bound and this drove me to complete them. The overall, workplace culture was laid back with a table tennis room to enjoy during breaks and an ease of all the staff who were also very welcoming, The hardest part of the job was learning how to increase the quality and quantity of the work I could complete in excel by using shortcuts. However, this was balanced out by the friendly environment and willingness of other to help you complete your tasks.

I loved working at Zendesk mostly because of the workplace culture. This is because it was quite relaxed and even had a table tennis room for you to let out your stress!
Pros
Free Lunches, Table Tennis Room, Fun events (e.g. xmas party, halloween, easter etc)

Productive and fun workplace
Customer Advocate, Chat (Current Employee) –  Manila, Philippines13 March 2018
Zendesk Inc. is the best company I ever have worked by far. Zendesk ensures all staff are equal and sees to it that upper management to regular staff level maintains open communication.

Workplace is very conducive and fun where everybody feels like this is our second home.

Everything is remote
Contract Incident Manager (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CA12 September 2017
Dealing with an international company can be challenging. With offices worldwide, we would have meetings at odd hours. The team was very supportive. We worked together to deal with crises as they came up.
Pros
Working in any location
Cons
Hard to make friends.

Not what it used to be / rampant nepotism / poor senior leadership
Enterprise Account Manager, East (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CA17 July 2017
Pros: Fantastic product and support. Innovation is great. Good CEO (that seems to not be calling the shots with what is happening on the sales side)

Cons: New leadership in Sales is atrocious. It's "what have you done for me lately", poor job security. Very little upward mobility as new managers are hiring more of their friends from previous jobs or poaching from existing competitors. Territories keep getting smaller and smaller. AEs wear too many hats, are stretched too thin and there are some greenfield markets that need more brand awareness.

Manager, HR Operations (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CA31 May 2017
Zendesk is great for a starter position or someone who is project driven. Not much flexibility with taking ownership or making decisions on your own. Great culture and diverse.
Pros
office environment, food, swag
Cons
lots of road blocks, needs stronger management

Management does not walk its talk
Anonymous (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CA19 January 2017
There is a lot of talk about transparency and yet decisions are made in a vacuum at the C level and the why is rarely shared.

We have a reorg every 6 months or so and none of them seem to work.

People who have been around for a long time get treated differently then those who are most recent hires.
Pros
Great work/life balance
Cons
Favoritism, homogenous, too many reorgs

Zendesk Review
Enterprise Account Executive (Current Employee) –  New York, NY20 June 2016
Overall great company and very good solution and product. It comes down to the 'type' of company one is seeking. They're roots were non-corporate innovative silicon valley engineer / product led company. Now over 2 years post - IPO, the culture mirrors other profitable SaaS companies like Salesforce.com as they must reach 1 Billion in revenue by 2020 to appease shareholders. Still predominately a mid-market 250-500 employee solution leader and West Coast driven.
Pros
Great Product and Solution
Cons
Enterprise Compliance Requirements creates challenges (RFP, NDAs, Security Assessments)

Zendesk is a great company
Developer Relations Engineering Intern (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CA2 March 2016
I really enjoy working at Zendesk as an intern. I work with two different teams and touch upon a lot of interesting work, from internal tooling to APIs to developer relations. The people are nice and will go out of their way to help you out. The company is growing a lot and I believe Zendesk will reach it's goal of being a billion-dollar company by 2020. I hope I'm offered a full-time position.
Pros
Smart co-workers, tech talks (free lunches), snacks, IT equipment
