Major rail and infrastructure projects rely on safe, reliable traction power systems to keep cities moving. At WSP, this role plays a critical part in shaping those systems from strategy through to delivery. As a Principal Traction Power Engineer, you will lead complex work, influence outcomes on nationally significant projects, and help grow capability in a high‑performing technical team.

About WSP and the team

WSP is a global professional services firm delivering future‑ready infrastructure solutions. In Australia, our Transport and Infrastructure business supports major rail, transit, and city‑shaping projects across the country. Our traction power team works closely with clients, multidisciplinary designers, and project partners to deliver practical, safe, and innovative outcomes across both greenfield and brownfield rail environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead traction power engineering inputs across the full project lifecycle for major rail and transport projects
  • Provide technical leadership, review, and governance for traction power designs and assurance activities
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, project teams, and stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop engineers, contributing to capability growth and knowledge sharing
  • Support bids, proposals, and early‑phase project planning with technical insight
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high‑quality outcomes

What we are looking for

  • Extensive experience in traction power engineering within rail or major infrastructure environments
  • Strong technical grounding across AC and DC traction power systems and associated interfaces
  • Proven ability to lead technical delivery and influence project outcomes
  • Experience engaging with clients and stakeholders in a consulting or similar environment
  • Relevant engineering degree and professional standing or progress toward professional recognition
  • A collaborative mindset with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement

What WSP offers

  • The opportunity to work on complex, high‑profile rail projects across Australia
  • Clear pathways for technical leadership and career progression
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work and life outside the office
  • Investment in professional development, learning, and industry engagement
  • A culture that values collaboration, inclusion, and purpose‑driven work
