Come shape the future of education with us.

At Compass, we're on a mission to transform the school day for everyone - from staff and students to families and administrators. We build smart, seamless technology that empowers schools to focus on what really matters: learning, growing and thriving.

That mission has fuelled our growth into a global scale-up, now supporting 5,000+ schools across three countries, backed by a team of 300+ people. Our all-in-one school management platform is redefining how education communities connect, communicate and operate.

We're now looking for a Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join our Technology team in Melbourne.

About the Role

This is an entry-level role for someone curious, collaborative, and keen to grow their career in cyber security through real, hands-on work.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll help protect Compass' platforms, people, and data, contributing to meaningful security outcomes from day one.

What you'll do

  • Help monitor and triage security alerts, escalating anything significant to senior team members
  • Assist with vulnerability scans and follow-up remediation across applications and cloud environments
  • Investigate reported phishing, malware, and suspicious activity, and document what you find
  • Support incident response activities under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Help maintain security documentation, runbooks, and knowledge resources
  • Assist with compliance tasks such as evidence gathering and access reviews
  • Stay curious about emerging threats and share what you learn with the team
  • Ad-hoc tasks as requested by your manager

Requirements

About You

You will bring:

  • An understanding of cyber security concepts and common threats
  • Familiarity with networking, operating systems, and at least one cloud platform
  • Some scripting ability, or a willingness to learn (Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
  • Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and a security-first mindset
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Eagerness to learn from senior team members and grow your career in cyber
