Full job description

D&D Architect & Interiors Pty Ltd is an established architectural and interior design consultancy based in Victoria. We deliver architectural design, town planning, interior design and project management services across residential, commercial, hospitality and mixed-use developments. Our team manages projects from concept design and planning approvals through to building permit documentation, consultant coordination, tendering and construction administration. With a growing project pipeline, we are looking for a capable, practical and design-focused Architect to join our team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and contribute to architectural projects from concept design through to documentation and construction, with a strong focus on design quality, buildability and client requirements.
  • Meet with clients and stakeholders to establish project briefs and provide clear advice on design, materials, costs and project timeframes.
  • Prepare concept designs, planning drawings, building permit documentation, construction drawings, details, schedules and specifications.
  • Develop accurate and coordinated Revit models and drawing packages, including plans, elevations, sections, details and schedules.
  • Prepare 2D/3D presentations, material palettes and architectural visualisations to clearly communicate design intent.
  • Coordinate structural, civil, building services, ESD, fire, landscape, town planning, building surveying and other specialist consultants.
  • Review consultant drawings and reports, identify coordination conflicts and ensure architectural, structural and services information is properly integrated.
  • Liaise with councils, building surveyors and relevant authorities and assist with RFIs and approval requirements.
  • Research and select appropriate building materials, finishes, products and construction systems, considering design, performance, sustainability, cost and availability.
  • Provide architectural and technical advice to builders, contractors, suppliers and consultants during tendering and construction.
  • Prepare and review project specifications, schedules, drawing registers, tender and contract documentation.
  • Attend site inspections and project meetings, review construction progress and workmanship, and assist in resolving site and construction issues.
  • Maintain project records, drawing revisions and document control to ensure current information is issued to the project team.
  • Assist with project programming, fee and budget monitoring, and management of competing deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Victorian planning requirements, NCC requirements, Australian Standards, building regulations and relevant industry practices.

Skills and experience required:

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Architecture.
  • At least 1 year of relevant professional experience in an architectural practice or similar project environment.
  • Strong Revit capability is essential, including the ability to independently produce coordinated architectural documentation and construction details.
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop; experience with InDesign, SketchUp, Enscape, Lumion or similar visualisation software will be highly regarded.
  • Sound understanding of architectural detailing, construction methods, materials and buildability.
  • Working knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), Victorian Building Regulations, relevant Australian Standards and Victorian planning requirements.
  • Ability to prepare documentation suitable for planning permit, building permit, tender and construction purposes.
  • Strong consultant coordination skills and the ability to review structural and building-services drawings against architectural documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret planning permits, endorsed drawings, building surveyor requirements, consultant reports and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with confidence liaising directly with clients, consultants, builders, authorities and suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail and document-control discipline, particularly for drawing revisions, schedules and consultant information.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • A practical and proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to independently identify and resolve design, documentation and construction issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small professional team while also taking ownership of assigned projects and tasks.
  • Experience with residential and commercial projects in Victoria will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in interior documentation, joinery detailing, material selection and coordination will be an advantage.
  • Experience attending construction sites, responding to RFIs and assisting with contract/construction administration will be highly regarded.
  • Current Victorian driver's licence and access to a vehicle, as regular site visits and project meetings are required.
