Position Information
Belmont High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the eastern suburbs of Lake Macquarie. The school was established as the first high school outside of Newcastle in 1953 and draws its enrolments from the Belmont, Belmont North, Floraville and Jewells communities. Belmont High School is a proud member of the Belmont Learning Community and Minimbah AECG, working in partnership to improve student outcomes. In 2025, the school recorded 852 students, including 131 Aboriginal students and 7 Inclusive Education classes.
Belmont High School has a culture of success in sport and creative and performing arts, with high expectations for student academic achievement. The school provides an enrichment stream in Years 7-10, and a Senior Learning Hub that operates daily, providing support for students in the completion of assessment tasks and study. Students also receive extensive support in accessing School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and transition to local industry and tertiary study post-school pathways. The Positive Behaviour for Learning program focuses on developing the qualities of respect, responsibility and resilience in our students and this is combined with our whole school focus of Restorative Practices through our partnership with Real Schools.
As a result of the end-of-year review of the Strategic Improvement Plan of the school (202, it was decided to realign Strategic Directions 2 and 3 ('Wellbeing and Belonging', and 'Stronger Community Connections') into a new Strategic Direction entitled 'Inclusive and Supportive School Culture', with greater alignment to the school vision. The intent of the school plan has not changed. This strategic development resulted in the school moving forward with only two strategic directions from 2024 to focus on narrow and deep work. Whilst there will be some broadening of the scope of Strategic Direction 2 in 2025, future directions will continue to work in this space.
