A non-profit energy efficiency services company reduces its time to hire and cost per hire for technical positions by sponsoring its jobs on Indeed.

Background

When companies need new ideas for boosting energy efficiency, they engage PECI. The Portland, OR-based company provides energy efficiency solutions with expertise in designing and delivering programs for utility and government agency clients.

Approach

To measure the effectiveness of its online recruitment sources, PECI regularly runs candidate source reports using its applicant tracking system (ATS), Taleo Business Edition. After having its jobs added to Indeed’s free organic results, the source reports showed a significant spike in quality applicants from Indeed. “Search engines like Indeed have become the most popular online job search method for job seekers; we adapted our online recruiting approach accordingly,” Hughes said.

PECI began a Sponsored Jobs campaign on Indeed to target a greater number of candidates for its technical positions and further reduce the time needed to fill those openings. Sponsored Jobs also enabled PECI to provide its candidates with a simplified application experience. “When a job seeker clicks our sponsored job, they are taken directly to the job on our career site,” Hughes said. “This allows us complete control over our branding and makes for a better candidate experience. Many job boards charge extra for this or don’t provide it.”

Results

“The hires we’ve made from Indeed have been for technical positions requiring specialized skill sets,” Hughes said. “Other online sources haven’t provided such results. In just 40 days we hired a Senior Applications Development Manager, a highly technical role with significant client interface and strategic leadership requirements.”

Over 10 months of sponsoring, Indeed provided:

  • Nine hires (more than any other source) including: Program Operations Manager, Network Specialist, Graphic Designer, Senior Applications Development Manager
  • $667 cost per hire (lowest online recruitment source)
  • 150 percent more applicants than the next highest source of applicants
